Used as an Effects unit paired with a good AMP it still holds up. The AMP molding while I have heard some get great sounds I have never been able to get believable metal tones using direct. If you use the 4 cable method and an amp that has a loop is can do pre and post effects and sculp the sound using its many EQs and overdrives. I have used on a few Marshalls and it turns them into raging beasts with a little tweaking and giving me all the effects I would ever need.
@@ESP12345 If the 50 is all that you need then why are you asking if another pedalboard is better? But since you asked, the GT100 is objectively better for the following reasons: 1. The operating system is way better, as it used a menu system, rather than the knob system of the ME80 2. The ME-80 can produce up to 8 effects at one time: the GT-100 can produce up to 15. 3. The ME-80 has 72 programs on-board: 36 preset, 36 user. The GT-100 has 400 on-board: 200 Preset, 200 User made. 4. The ME-80 has 9 amp models. The GT-100 has 25. 5. The ME-80 has a single signal path. The GT-100 has dual signal paths. This allows different effects and amps to be assigned left and right, and can be used by switching back and forth, or run simultaneously, like a dual amp back line. 6. The ME-80 has up to three parameters for editing effects. The GT-100 has many more, depending on the effect. 7. The order of effects in the ME-80 is fixed. In the GT-100, it is possible to have the effects in any order you want. The order of the effects can drastically change the tone and you can therefore have more control over the sound produced. 8. The amps and OD/DS effects in the GT-100 are customizable. This is like having your own mod shop to tweak the sound of existing amps and pedals to your own specifications. Not only this, but the OD/DS is why more dynamic and authentic, rather than the generic 'one size fits all' tones of the ME80. So overall, if you have the money, you should get the GT100. It is worth the extra money to get those tones you want.

Just add an IR box in the loop with good IRs disable the cabsims tweak the custom preamps to your liking and it's more than up for it ;)
Something like Mooer Radar, personaly use with this FX unit and the results are amazing.
