Was fortunate to ride in a Boston Whaler out of Key West this past week. Our family absolutely loved everything about the 230 Vantage. Tremendous ride, safe, great layout and quiet. I
I agree with wave to wave..he's a passionate performance boat enthusiast. Trust me, ive never met the man, but seen his excellent website...you dont want him to tell you what he really thinks of that whaler, and all boats in that design category which have no business taking family people out into blue water. Boats like that are designed around a floating lounge living room concept with disposable, afterthought amenities often dont get used anyway. And like me, i too get emotional, boats are expensive to buy and maintain.. im a closed deck sportboat guy also. For near shore cruising in safety, going 20 to 50 miles each way on yer day off seeing the sights, n sandbars n picnicing out of a cooler, then a sportboat with secure seating that's fun to drive n ride in...a 25 to 45 foot deep vee, close deck sportboat is the best tool for enjoying the "water"...other water sports like fishing , sailing, diving, overnight trips have other tools. Bowriders belong on lakes, big centerconsoles, have alot of wasted space and many poor helm ergos, but they can have a sink.. big whaler bowrider. No sinks allowed in the cockpit of a 30ish foot boat, unless its got a cabin galley! The cockpit should have secure seating and represent the capacity for a boat underway! especially not behind the helm seat when that space could be used for seating or a stand up area for passengers to balance the boat in a secure inside spot , n socialize with the pilot. There are some beautiful built category leading boats which quietly stand out, and are overlooked by consumers who have to please their wives, and think they need a sink behind the helm and other useless, unnecessary amenities ...like accessible rigging, good hardware etc
He exaggerates the weight all being on the port side. There is one extra seat, not two. I have the 240 Vantage without the service console behind the helm. I have the same port side seat and the adjustment mechanism is built like a brick shit-house. You can sit there and shake it with your hand and it will rattle, sure but under power it is silent. I just ran 15 miles in 2' seas today. This boat runs like a champ.
And further more, the whaler design team comprises of over 50 marine engineers out of Edgewater fla. The passion and amount of detail that goes through ever whaler is incredible. From hull design, to placement of speakers, hand rails, seating, safety, speed, and comfort! These boats are all purposely designed with great attention to detail.
Perhaps, but sometimes/often the end user doesn't actually have all the knowledge to make the right decisions. You may or may not like iPhones/smartphones but right there is a pretty good example of how when the designers/inventors insist that they know better we all end up with a better product. In most cases, the ideal path to that is probably somewhere in the middle. Listen but insist on staying the course on the stuff where you feel like the customer doesn't actually know better.
I think your very wrong, I own this Vantage and your so off base. The boat rides incredibly well with 6/7 people aboard. You say the seat rattles.. lol no, only when you push it back and forth like you did, otherwise the boat is built like a tank. Very stable, very solid, great design, great layout, great seating, and a super fun boat to drive.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. How long have you captained this boat before drawing your conclusion? I own a 2016 setup just like that with 350 verado and can definitely say you are 100% wrong. Btw…that boat is probably one of the safest on the water in the category
@@WavetoWaveBoats it is a great design choice for my uses , I thoroughly enjoy sitting sideways and talking to my passengers while driving instead of turning and looking behind me in the 280SS Formula I am selling. I counter balanced the weight issue by relocated both Battery’s to the compartment infront of drivers console. My passenger seat has no play or rattles.
@@WavetoWaveBoats nothing rattles, had the boat out for 4 hours yesterday. You sound like a punk trying to piss people off who own the boat titling a video this way. Turning people off a beautiful boat also. Give your head a shake and stop testing Boston Whalers we don’t need your opinion.
I was waiting for this reply. There's always someone invested who will be offended. You may be alright with the boat, or maybe it's a fair share of buyer's bias making you live with the points of criticism pointed out.
Dude, serious reviews don't use terms like "bad to drive", "perfect example of bad design", etc. Try to avoid your emotional reactions when commenting.
@@WavetoWaveBoats I’ve owned that boat. Great to drive. Great design. Read Webster’s definition of “opinion.” Unless you’re a fan of alternative facts…
@@nealpratt7359 Sorry to hear that Neal. I think for a beginner boater, it's probably ok, if you don't care or don't know how a boat should handle. I can see why you're upset and emotional. But generally, when all the seating is on one side of the boat, right off the bat it's a bad design, for obvious reasons. And that's just part of it's poor performance.

Thank you for saying that about the boat building world not having a standard. It so true and frustrating.
The honesty of your video is refreshing.
Refreshing to see an actual review of a boat.
Actually considering a BW and I appreciate your honest assessment.

All of the seating is on the port side, it's not an exaggeration. As long as you are happy is all that matters.
@@WavetoWaveBoats so the center seat at the stern is on the port side….hardly. Offset yes.

Thanks Delrey. Do you think having all the passenger seats on the port side is a good design choice?

@@tjzakos3151 hopefully you're not sitting sideways when driving. All of the folding seats rattle, it's metal on metal.
