    Hi, I just started learning about this and i wanted to ask if we have to count the position of methyl from where the double bond side is?

      Hi, yes. Since in the case of a double bond the priority in numbering the carbon atoms will be for the location of the double bond. So there will be different isomers depending on the location of the methyl with respect to the double bond

      In fact there's no rule to predict the number of structural isomers, you have to try your best to find an isomer with a different name 😉

I attended the whole video and benefited a lot, but I saw this question in my book and it is in the options as follows: 7,6,1,4 I did not know what to choose and I felt the question wrong because there is no option that contains the number 12, so what should I choose

      To be honest it's confusing 🤷🏻‍♂️, try 4. Maybe they mean cyclohexane, cyclopentane, cyclobutane and cyclopropane. But I'm just guessing, or simply share my video with them 😉

      We do not draw isomers for names. Isomers are drawn for formulas, cyclohexane and hexene are isomers for C6H12

    At 4:24 why is 2-ethyl-1-butene not a pentene, wouldn't the longest chain be 5 carbons?

      But the longest chain should include the double bond. Both carbons of the double bond should be within the longest chain

      The key to know if two structures are isomers is that they must have different names, if they have the same name then they are not isomers

      It should be 2-ethyl-2-butene, since from both sides you will still have the double bond at carbon 2, so you choose the end closer to the substituent to start counting

      Propene means 3 carbon atoms, u cannot add methyls to end carbons, you cannot have methyls at 3 or at 1
