Little tips to help improve: 1. It's usually going to take longer than 4-5 minutes. Perhaps 8-10 minutes, depending on serving size. 2. Do not crush or mince the garlic, leave it whole or cut into halves. It preserves the flavor and doesn't leave you with burnt garlic residue. 3. After you strain the potatoes, place on cutting board or paper towels right side up, and season then. This holds the seasoning better onto the potatoes and gives it a much better rustic look at the end. 4. After adding the butter, tip the pan and baste the potatoes while they're facing up. That little basting adds a lot more flavor and accelerates the cooking process. Before I get backlash because Ramsay is, of course, the superior chef, these are merely suggestions on a side dish I've been making for over 20 years.

+Harold Davidson I haven't even tried this recipe yet but my first thought was "Only 5 minutes?" I like my potatoes to be very soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.
I just recently started learning how to cook through RUclips videos and I've since gained a lot of respect for Ramsey. I used to think he was a pompous jerk but his culinary expertise and passion for food is inspiring!
The man holds 3 Michelin stars. He may have a temper but it spawns from his passion for culinary perfection. Also, congrats on picking up the knife! I wish you the best on your culinary ventures!
I've made this recipe countless times, and yes it take more then 4-5 minutes to boil the potatoes. For me, I used golden buttered potatoes which is similar to the ones in the video, if not then they are the same... I boiled the potatoes for about 20 minutes then did all the stuff he did and the potatoes taste wonderful. The butter gives the potatoes a beautiful nut brown color and gives it a buttery moist outer coating. Overall, a must have side dish if you are having steak!
This was actually the video that ignited my love for cooking while I was in uni in 2012. Thanks for uploading. Strange to think that this video changed my life :)
he has an amazing way of explaing how and why certain things are done. like for example, i would have taken the skin off my potatoes but since he said that they will fall apart, then i keep the skin on
It looks rather easy to be honest. Your in your own kitchen and its very simple to follow and adding ingredients is simple and cooking wise. Serve at your own leisure. I will probably go and burn the kitchen down when I go and try this now lol!
Been making these for breakfast for the past couple weeks. I prefer quartering the potatoes into forkable chunks instead of halves. Saves me from using another knife after plating.
I made these for me and my Moma and used the purple fingerling potatoes, must say they where delicious. I follow the direction to the T and they came out great. Thanks for the upload!
I'm from Ashton under Lyne in Lancashire (now in Australia) and I have to admit that, for whatever reason, I love potatoes in any shape or form but these Saute'd or Fondant or roasted do it for me. Love you Gorden.
@@kathryngannon485 They taste really good as does rice because our bodies crave such things because in the wilds humans would have rarely got to eat them. Issue today is people eat too much carbohydrates.
Gonna do this tonight for our tea..got some Charlotte potatoes in....may put it with some homemade fishcakes with a squirt of lemon and some garlic and chive mayo with a tomato salad..yum..
my grandmother taught me same recipe but we never added garlic or rosmary though. anyway, butter or margarine would do the job the best. i failed cuz didnt boil the potatoes well, so watch for that and have a fantastic dish !
Sauté potato is my favorite style of potato dishes. I love to put cheese and baked union rings on it.....also one spice that is absolutely needed on top is oregano!
I love Gordon he inspired my son to be what he is today. A chef. Keep the videos coming. I love to cook and make different things as well. God Bless u Gordon!!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)
this is a fantastic recipe, i did this without the butter and thyme, with spring onions. I forgot to use salted water to boil and i ended up kind of having to marinade the potatoes it but it still tasted great.
Lovely alternative to trite potato dishes! Struggled finding potato type best for this dish in here in Norway but elsewise Gordon makes awesome videos easy to follow regardless of skills or level of experience! Thumbs up!
just cooked russet potatoes sliced in 4 and i gotta say,i did not realize that the potato skin(which i never cooked with) was what made them taste so damn good
I think it's much better to cut the potatoes in thirds instead of halves and boil them a bit longer. Make sure to add the garlic towards the very end or it will burn up!
As I'm cooking this, I imagine Ramsay yelling at me the whole time. I definitely didn't do it as good as him! I'm cooking too many potatoes at once! >:0
WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU *Bleep* DONKEY! YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO STEAM THEM BEFORE PUTTING THEM IN THE FRYING PAN!...THERE IS NO SALT ON THESE You bloody idiot. Don't forget the salt ;D

I also imagine you yelling at my cooking. But I'm not afraid of you.😊 Oh and i haven't yet learned to cut with the blade touching my knuckle, it makes me nervous.
It is at first but with practice, you can learn to cook at this speed with ease pretty easily. Mise en place helps. You can cook faster if everything is laid out and organized and ready to use.
You should boil until soft, steam until soft but dry, fry until the outer skin is crisp, but potato remains soft, so that it's not too dry. Add more rosemary at the end, so more flavour. YEA! MY FIRST TRY WAS SUCCESSFUL! Except I peeled the skin of the potato.
I just parboil them in the same frying pan and let them sit and dry there (either boil off all the water or drain) before I add oil and fry. This method makes perfect potatoes.
Gordon, I always get rid of the peel 'coz I don't like it; it's hard! And, the way I make mine, is full cook the pohtatoes, then brown them with oil and butter, with some spices and salt! Yummmm
If you've never had potatoes with duck or goose fat, you're missing out. If you happen to have some extra lying around, substitute it for the butter. I did this with duck fat and it was amazing
Don' throw the potatoes into already boiling water, Put them in cold water and bring they to a boil from that point. This is a basic rule for most root vegetables. Above ground vegetables generally can be added to boiling water.

Wait, which side of the potatoes should face up? The flat, or round side?
