I’m a Collingwood supporter and have always loved this man, not only is he a legend of our game, he is such a humble bloke and a true gentleman, whenever the pies played Carlton or Adelaide you’d have that sinking feeling everytime the little man got the ball, he was that good that Carlton traded him to Adelaide then got him back again, he is right up there with the greatest sneaky forwards to ever play our game, he was consistently accurate and breathtaking

If you take notice he is kicking goals right & left foot. Eddie is my son's favourite player my son is 26 & when you watch my son play it's just like watching Eddie Betts & yes he kick's freaky goals left & right foot like Eddie. My son got best player in the finals series last season & in the game to get into the grand final they came a draw the game went into extratime & my son kicked 4 of the best goals I have ever seen in my life to win the game & get his team into the grand final, man I was in tears a father full of pride, unfortunately his team lost the grand final, I can't wait for this season damn I'm so hungry for it I could eat a football

While Eddie was playing at the Crows, he made a name for himself with his kicks from the pockets; in fact, at Adelaide Oval they named the north east pocket(by the old scoreboard)as 'Eddie Betts Pocket'. The kick from the pockets is called a 'banana kick, because of the way the kick bends; "Bend it like Betts". Some of the most brilliant and fantastic players in Aussie Rules are indigenous(first nation)players; at all levels, club, state or national. One of the rounds during the season is "Indigenous Round", check out AFL Clubs Indigenous jumpers; I might be prejudiced, but I don't believe any club has beaten the Adelaide Crows when it comes to there indigenous jumpers. Clubs have new indigenous jumpers every season.

Great reaction to see someone as passionate about our game as the supporters in Australia.
Hard to believe on reflection but so many doubted the value to the Crows (Adelaide) paying $500000 a season on joining the club 10 years ago.
Turned out to be bargain and what clubs will pay around double for now.
Choose between Sydney and Brisbane for your team. The Swans were runners up last year and Brisbane finished in the top 4 so both have excellent chances of winning a premiership in the next few years.
Love the terminology. Ankle breakers ! Fantastic term and can see why. We use the term baulk for the move.
So much skill involved in the sport and quick reflexes and fast decision making is 1 of the unique features of the game and Eddie highlighted that perfectly.
Watch the best of Lance 'Buddy' Franklin for more highlights of the game.

Eddie came to Geelong Cats in 2022 as a assistant Coach and brought along Tyson Stengle under his wing who was almost had his career cut short for off field problems. Eddies coaching helped our small forwards a lot with his knowledge and Tyson Stengle made the all Australian team, a premiership player and kicked the 8th most goals for the year (including finals) Tom Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron both also for Geelong ended up 1 and 2 for most goals for the season including finals

Eddie is so exciting and a great person. Keep in mind too he was normally the smallest player on the ground at only like 5'8" and a lot of those speccies are on people over 6'4". At 6:06 it has the top 5 goal scorers of the season and Eddie is 2nd and all the over players range from 6'4" to 6'6".
With a 'behind' (or point) you'll never see the crowd cheer (unless its a game winning point), kicking a point is seen as a miss. You'll rarely see a point on a highlight reel and a "6 pointer" will always be referred to as a "goal". You should react to "Nic Nat is BACK! Naitanui's insane highlights reel | 2019 | AFL", its the highlights of Nic Naitanui. He's a ruckman a position you havent seen yet, its generally the tallest player on the ground. Even tho he was one of the tallest on the field he is incredibly fast, agile and athletic.

  • @ScottEDawg
    @ScottEDawg Год назад +4

Eddie Betts is only called Pied Piper in the video you reacted to. Though I do not know his actual nickname, he was often referred to as "The Little Master" by TV commentators.
What American's call 'ankle breakers' in the NFL we would say that the ball holder was 'selling candy' to the other player.
    Hints:-
    1) When watching your first AFL match, do NOT stream or record your reaction. You don't want to miss the commentary!
    2) We Australians do Not root for a team, we barrack for a team. In Australia, root is a polite way to say 'fuck' in the "i'm off to have sex" context, commonly used as "I'm off for a fuck" or "I'm gonna fuck the missus" but, instead of saying fuck, we say root!
    3) Barrack for the Adelaide Crows!

No , his nickname wasn't the "Pied Piper" I think that's just this video , in any case , I've never heard that name before . He was just an amazing goal kicker though . I've seen things from Eddie that I'll never ever forget .
The "Right Pocket" (a field position) at the scoreboard end of the Adelaide Oval has been named "Eddie's Pocket" in his honour , because he kicked so many amazing goals from that position . So you know you're having an impact when they start naming things after you .
The answer to your question at (14:14) about "What does that count as" is "six Points Johnny". The thing with marking the ball and free kicks is , if , after marking the ball , you move forward of the point where you marked it , it's game on , you can be tackled , you can only take the free if you stop immediately after marking and move backward of the point on the ground (also called "the Mark" confusingly enough) where you marked it. So , Eddie marks the ball but continues running forward , so the opposition player tackles him and he starts to fall . In the process of falling , he manages to get the ball onto his foot and it goes through for a goal , it's clearly six points. Hope that cleared it up a bit for ya . Have another look at it.

You're right , Carlton thought he was washed up and wanted to move him on . Silly move as you will see what he did at the Crows . He has mentored a wayward young aboriginal player in Tyson Stengle , who was drafted by Geelong. He is showing Eddy Bets like ability and we at Geelong cant wait to see how his career pans out.
