    Riku was my first commander and my favourite years later. Even when I thought I sold out of Magic, I kept my Riku deck. This list is AWESOME. Wheels are turning...

    I did some play testing against this deck and can attest that it is a thing of beauty when it goes off. Really cool build.

    This build is great. Quite a different approach to others out there. Can’t afford some of the more pricey creatures but found alternatives like Giant Adephage and Wurmcoil Engine. Also I’ve added newer cards like Scute Swarm and Maddening Cacophony which is hilarious when kicked and copied several times!

      One of my favorite new cards for this archetype is Inscription of Abundance. Kick it, copy it, target your beater, and you can often remove two things, make it huge, and gain 20+ life all at instant speed.

    I played Riku for a long time. I toned it down and focused on silly copy shenanigans so I could stop playing Archenemy, but the times back in the day when someone else cast Cruel Ultimatum and I responded by copying it five times, or when they boardwiped and I had three Moldgraf Monstrosity that returned a total of six creatures from my graveyard (including Riku) when they died, will always be treasured memories.

    Very excited to see this new episode you mentioned! I'm eager to see which commanders get featured, and how you'll be building them

    Great video! Just got back into magic and am playing EDH as a noob. I opened a Riku and immediately wanted to build my second deck around him. This video is a great help. Thank you!

    I bought the whole cycle of commander decks, the first year they came out. My play group always fought over ghave and kahlia, and being nice i would always pick last. Well after the umpteenth millionth time of having everyone poo-poo the Riku deck, I decided to trick it out and show everyone what's up. Cut to almost a decade later, and Riku is still my favorite and the only deck that I haven't dismantled at some point

    This is fun! Considering the big creature route, how do you see players fight against that since they will have summoning sickness? They basically have a whole round to stop you or board wipe. Do you think there are enough interaction spells when playing 1v3 in this instance?

    I wish I made more money so I could buy some of your guys' deck techs! I'm a beginner and only have a human tribal/aristocratic Trynn & Silvar deck right now that I still need to tune but you guys make me want to build this riku deck lol

      I totally empathize with your spot! Majority of my commander experience is where you are right now, I would recommend building decks slowly, a few cards when you can get them at a time! That’s what I did until I had enough to build a more expensive deck! Thanks for watching!

      Trust and believe I'm right there with you. I feel like I need 2 more jobs just to buy cards as o I can have a small chance of winning

    I went in a much more token and creature copy direction, affix and nev twincasters and parallels lives for static copies. Brudiclad is one example of a token maker and token pay off. Similar creature copy pay offs as you (great suggestions), this copy spells also make tokens so those synergize well. Basically creature copy with token sub theme. Riku is a super fun and diverse commander :)

    Just opened this commander in Double Masters. This deck is going to do so much damage(:
    Edit: so I play tested this deck with some variants. I managed to take 4 extra turns and a total of 9 extra combat steps with Karns Temporal + Relentless Assault after I flooded the board with 12 4/4 oozes. My new favorite deck

    yo, looking at the list in the description I'm seeing a lot of cards that were cut and a bunch of cards that didn't make the vid. I'm going through and working on my own list but I'm just curious which is the most recent version and what motivated some of these changes. overall i like the strategy, not sure if Guided Passage is worth the include though, it is a really neat card, going to be a pain in the butt to play over distance.

    I have a riku deck too and the best I've done is expropriate copied 5 times so 6 all up I got to take 12 perms and 12 extra turns then in my first extra turn I did a comet storm x being 57 multikicked twice so I could hit all 3 other players with 5 copies so 6 lots of 57 damage at each other player it was glorious

    Quick Question!! I'm really interested in building a Riku deck but every time I watch a video to see it in action it gets smoked. It seems really slow and doesnt end up having enough time to use all the mana being built up in the beginning turns. Main thing I'm asking is, is Riku good enough of a commander to play competitively or at least semi competitive? and can/does he win often? Cheers - great vid btw

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  3 года назад +1

      Great question Christian! Peter here (do not the one who built the deck) and after playing against this deck several times, the deck is pretty fast, but it’s not really cEDH material. It’s great for casual, mid-high power pods. cEDH decks are very tuned with specific game plans and lines to win on turn 2-3 on average, and Riku, while strong, usually can’t pull out a win until at least turn 5-6 if you’re lucky. He wins often in the right meta, but he’s not fast enough to compete with current cEDH decks.
      Let me know if that doesn’t answer your question, happy to elaborate further! - Peter

      @@CommandValley Thanks for getting back to me! Yeah that answers my question. I still built the deck anyway because it seems so fun.
      I do have a question however. When you flicker a card with deadeye navigator, can you activate Riku’s copying ability off the flicker re-entry?

    Why signets instead of natures lore, ST Elder, farseek and into the north?
    I also think skyshroud claim and other 4 cmc sorcery ramps are better than cultivate and kodamas reach

  • @SuperSayian3000

    I thought that Riku can only copy a spell one time because it is on instance of Riku. Like he can only use both abilities once.

    I bought a Kalamax deck a while ago, and tuned the heck out of it, so I already have most of the cards needed to build a spellslinger Riku deck. You reckon Kalamax would be good in the 99?

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  4 года назад

      Hey! I definitely think Kalamax is a great include depending on how you build the deck, since my version has many sorcery’s and limited creatures I chose not to add Kalamax, however if you build a Riku deck that is mostly instants with fee sorcery’s I think he is an amazing include! Thanks for the comment!

    Do you think that Sneak Attack would work in this deck?

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  4 года назад +1

      Yes that’s an amazing include! Since sneak attack allows the creature to enter the battlefield it can trigger Riku so I love that suggestion!
