    Hey weepee, I’ve really enjoyed the Zeus series this summer. The sun rises so early during the summer here that it’s become a bit of a ritual for me to catch up with the series during that time. Thank you for all the things that you have done over the years, it’s become a massive body of work that’s something to be very proud of :)

    I'm with you that it doesn't seem likely the writers were just tired of the dragon saga and wanted it over. My speculation is that when EoD was being planned, GW2 and the studio were at an all-time low, and from a business standpoint they maybe couldn't have justified continuing development of GW2 if the next expansion didn't turn things around. I think many at Anet would have hated for GW2 to end without wrapping up the story they'd been telling for 10 years, so they decided to bring it to an accelerated conclusion rather than risk it never being concluded.

      Are you talking about his comment on Drizzlewood? If so, I agree (Then again, when it released without VA, I held off and pretended it didn't yet exist until they released it with VA).
      If not, I feel like I might be missing your point (then again i'm only halfway through the VOD so far)

    one thing about the dragons that makes them potentially more difficult to write in an engaging way is that they are essentially force of nature enemies. They're just doing what they're doing because it's what they do. So there's not much you can get into regarding motivations, relationships to other characters, engaging with preexisting lore (because they basically predate and stand appart from all of it). The only space to make compelling villians in that setup is to make engaging dragon champions but they mostly left that avenue untapped (minus Ryland and we all know how that turned out)

    • @visceras7979
      @visceras7979 18 дней назад

      That is on them though. Not all EDs had to be forces of nature without thought. Jormag wasn't, neither was Soo-Won. At some point we have to consider that it is simply bad writing, or some external motivations as WP was explaining. At one point in this game's life there was a possibility of previous Elder Dragons that have died, the chance that EDs were somehow related to the Gods, etc.
      There were a lot of ways they could've developed this story, without the need to boiling it down to fighting the big bad. What is so sad however is that we're still figthing the big bad and the story has not improved, on the contrary many believe it to be worse.

    the time scale of the demons makes it so betrayal of a mortal is not required, especially one as dangerous as the player character has been proven to be. they can just wait it out easily and then strike. the best thing they could do is wait for a big enough bruhaha to occur, come in after the conclusion and sweep up the rest, if that is their desire.. could be a gw3 hook i suppose, but im pretty certain this wraps the demon story up for us in gw2

    01:36:43 While it was a clear misstep on Anet's part, I think the wizards are supposed to defend Tyria from *any* kind of outside attention, with Kryptis being only one of such cases. Weren't there mursaats hinted to live beyond Tyria as well? And human gods came from outside, only to return there again later. (I think Joko was quite unique too? I wonder if his powers were from "outside".) IIRC SotO kind of established that dragons were a sort of natural defence mechanism, so their existence helped wizards to ward off outsiders and buy some time to build defences. I don't want to bring parallels with immune responses in human bodies, but you get the idea. When a human body faces a threat both from within and from outside, it may be hard to prioritize correctly what to focus on first/fully. And in this case wizards knew there were lots of heroes dealing with dragons anyway, so maybe they thought others could sort it out while they were dealing with something unknown for the majority of Tyria. It still can be a mistake on wizards' part, but at least their conclusion *was* rationalized in some way.
    01:37:47 I think they've implied that this realm wasn't always like this, there was a piece of paper or memory somewhere in Nayos talking about colors, happy emotions and all kind of sensations, IIRC it was tied to one of the powerful House demons, she was a teacher/visionary or something like that. There's a huge problem with the fact that devs didn't properly explain what demon realm is, all those poetic-like pieces of lore just pissed me off tbh. When you don't have any solid fundation for understanding and you keep seeing the most convoluted hints and you have a piece of story which is unsatisfying on all levels... It's like adding mustard on a nothingburger: you end up with a plate full of condiment, which leaves a bad taste by itself.

    GW2 has had some memorable characters, obviously everyone liked nearly all the core mentors - the story was very very good at how it engineered us to like them - Tybalt is universally loved. Me personally I always liked Phlunt - he was my favourite for a long time; liked Blish as well. Isgarren from the current crop stand out the most. But my favourite? Bangar.

    It could retroactively be said that Livia was just trying to get rid of you and lied about the eye, as she had kinda been trying to get you to leave her alone the entire episode up to then. She knew about Mabon, after all.
    Also, about your regrets on being harder on the beginning of IBS than it deserved, also remember they hadn't been clear on their communication with us at the time, leaving a bad taste in many people's mouths. I can understand that probably colored a lot of your engagement with it, as it did for many. I wish they had persevered regardless but still that retrospectively may have been unfeasible from a financial standpoint for them.

    SoTo was engaging at first, but my interest fell off hard during the post-release stuff.
    Even in the new expansion format A-net continues their tradition of starting out strong and petering out two thirds in. (Heck that was even the case in core).

    I love every time WP posts, but I wish he was a little more aware of the current story. I’m not defending it (the narrative) in any way, it was down right poopy, unclear, and poorly-written. But just some things like WP not knowing that Demon’s eating other demons is NOT a normal thing shaped so many of his opinions during the play-through. Eparch eating other demons was an atrocity and only a rumor in earlier story steps. Him consuming his own army and countless innocents so Peitha wouldn’t have the chance to convince them to join her while making himself stronger was his plan. What’s worse is that rather than consuming them all right away, they were mangled into bite-sized snacks and hung on a wall, kept alive while they waited for the next meal. Peitha *not* choosing to eat Eparch means all his gained power passes on to no one and the taboo of cannibalism, it’s associated tyranny and madness, stops with her. It’s a political gamble where she is now NOT going to rule Nayos through sheer tyrannical unrivaled power.
    Again, I’m not defending this story or the decisions they made, I can think of a million ways it could have been better, but I much prefer criticisms that feel a bit more pointed.

    • @CatarinaStone
      @CatarinaStone 24 дня назад +1

      I mean, we do have plenty of evidence he was indeed consuming a lot of other kryptis to strengthen himself. We even see him do that live. But it's not as well developed as could be. Also, he is behing the kryptis incursions and with Peitha on the helm those supposedly stop
