- Elephant and Castle is a fast-changing area with modern developments like the Strata tower, nicknamed the "Razor". London South Bank University students hang out in night spots including hip Corsica Studios and iconic dance club the Ministry of Sound. The area is known for Latin American eats and there's global street fare at Mercato Metropolitano food hall. Planes and tanks are on display at the Imperial War Museum.
Elephant and Castle is a central London neighbourhood just south of the River Thames. A transport hub, a familiar landmark and home to thousands of people, it’s also an area in transition. A major regeneration programme is underway, with over £4bn of public and private money being invested in the area.
Elephant and Castle has a long and fascinating history, with a rich culture that has been strengthened by successive new arrivals to the neighbourhood. And, with two local universities, a flourishing arts scene and a strong Latin American influence, the area is imbued with a particularly youthful, energetic and creative spirit.
The area’s origins lie in its location at the intersection of several major routes into the historic core of London and, to this day, it remains one of the city’s most important transport hubs, making it one of the most accessible places in London. It has two underground stations, a mainline rail station, 28 bus routes, excellent road connections and one of London’s first Cycle Superhighways, linking the Elephant with King’s Cross.
The area was once famed as the ‘Piccadilly of the South’ - a central hub of entertainment, which regularly drew in thousands of Londoners. Though less palpable today, it nonetheless retains that spirit.
With the regeneration programme well underway, the Elephant is building on this energy and making the most of its central London location. Thousands of new homes are being built and the town centre is being revitalised; creating new jobs and training opportunities in the process.
With plans for new theatres, cinemas, shops, restaurants and places to socialise, Elephant and Castle is once again becoming a destination for visitors, as well as a great neighbourhood in which to live, work and learn.

Interesting route for walk 😊
Wow. The E&C area has changed a lot in the 8 years since I left London, and a hell of a lot since I actually lived in Walworth back in 2010. Thanks.
How long did it take you to spot the English man?
Very true, the whole of London is changing.
@@lefuedeboutCRY MORE LOL
Love those walks just like being there walking along with the walker
Very good video nice and relaxing
Thank you 😊
Are you trying to make a 68-year-old South East Londoner cry? lol That is MY birthplace and where I lived for the first 28 years of my life. In fact @ 11.29 on the vieo you were 20 yards from my small 24 Flat Council Block(where the tree can be seen on the left). My flat overlooked the 6-day-a-week Market and Walworth Road and The Old Kent Road(at the other end of the market) were VERY busy so I had thousands of people around me. I moved to THe SE London/Kent Suburbs to this same house, exactly,40 years ago,and would never move(living next to 200 Acre Park) but I miss the vibe and stimulus of that area every day but after The Brixton Rioys (1981) it was getting unsafe hence the reluctant move.
Thanks so much for your comment.
Your the reason I make these videos,
To show people their old towns for nostalgia, or just to experience the day-to-day life of London. 😊
P.s. Yes I know London has changed drastically in recent times.
A quiet day apart from the traffic
So that's what Camberwell looks like
Yes that's Camberwell,
Where do would you like me to go next? 🚶♂️ 😊
Least it's not pouring down
A man for all seasons 😂
rea is totally UNRECOGNISABLE from my youth.. Million Pound flats and a £20 BILLION Project to modernize (and gentrify) the area and it is much safer than it was 20 years ago. They are knocking down (what was) the largest housing estate in Northern Europe. Before that in the early 1960s, we lived in terraced houses. They destroyed the community feel of that area and over the next 20 years, most locals, who could afford to, moved out to The Suburbs and beyond. I was christened at St.Peter's Church and that was my Primary Scool behind the Church (St. Peters). It was a wonderful place to grow up and 2 miles from Central London. A fabulous first 28 years and I will always be a WALWORTH Boy.
That's great to hear. Yes, the government is trying to regenerate urban areas in the London, so they can charge higher rents, and attract more lucrative residents.
@@stepoutlondon I may be wrong but my understanding is that THe Chinese bought a whole block and rent the new apartments out to Chinese Tourists as the Flats are less than 2 miles from all the attractions of Central London:)
Was born in Lomond Grove ,Locals call East St market East Lane market ,You missed out The Green 🤷♂️ Area is a shadow of what it used to be, Shame
East Street market was great in the 70s and 80s not now
