Jeff and Richard - "Telephone Line" (Jeff Steps Aside For Richard Tandy Mix)

- Lost Planet Radio presents.... Jeff Lynne and Richard Tandy, with "Telephone Line" (The Jeff Steps Aside For Richard Tandy Mix), originally recorded at Jeff's Bungalow Palace Studio. This mix lowers Jeff's vocals and places them more left of center, so Richard's piano takes "center stage".
Rest in peace, Richard. (1948-2024) You're gone, but the music lives forever.
All credit goes to Jeff Lynne and Richard Tandy.

Jamás te olvidare Richard gracias por tus bellas melodias, hasta siempre
Man, this hurts. I probably would not have become an ELO fan if not for the magical sounds Tandy was creating on his Moog's, ARP's, CS 80, and Oberheim OB-X synth's. I feel like he never truly received the recognition he deserved in his use and creativity of synth-phonic sounds.
Beginning (for me) with "Dreaming of 4000' and 'Daybreaker' through 'Mission' and 'So Fine' on A New World Record', EVERYTHING on Out of the Blue, and on into the Time album, he showed he was truly a master synthesist. His solo near the end of 10538 Overture on the live The Night the Light Went On in Long Beach is liquid metal at its finest.
He's also the only key/synth player that I've ever noticed using various guitar pedals to affect his sound, especially early on with the Maestro series (created by Tom Oberheim) and staying away from the Small Stone phaser on string synths.
Rest in peace, Richard, and thank you for the music and inspiration.
Totally agree, good assessment of what he brought to the table. He also delivered one of my favorite guitar solos ever on the epic Shangri La.
It's only a small point, but it might interest you to know that John Hawken used a wah-pedal on his piano for some of Renaissance's first album {aka Icarus}. If you like piano, the album is well worth a listen. Still, your point stands; I have learned something about Richard. Thank you.
Thank you for this tribute to the great Richard Tandy. Truly a talented, humble good man who brought so much to the composition and sound of ELO and some of the greatest music ever produced. God be with him and his family.
That made me terribly sad. I really wish that I had been able to see him play live.
One keyboard player that I thought would live forever. As a keyboard player of advancing years myself, I thought Richards were indestructible...perhaps not, eh? Go forth and entertain 'the troops' in the sky, Sir. Love❤
Sad to hear of another big loss in the rock and roll family. This is one of the most beautiful songs ELO produced. I could sit and listen to this song back to back for hours.
RIP, brother. Condolences to his family, friends, and the rock and roll community you will be missed.
Us...from then. Watching these guys become our lives in song....the early 60's till today...Richard Tandy...WHO ?..part of some group we heard among many...Them Beatles, Stones, Gerry Marsden, and the ferry crossing the Meeeeeersey... Manfred Mann...Yardbirds...the list is endless...Then, all these years go by, and we are introduced to people that were part of the music of our lives....Richard Tandy was one very special man. I'm 71 soon....saw so many of these blokes perform over the years without knowing their contribution.....Now we see them go, it hurts, But Mick and Keith are out there today giving it what for...Life in the old dog yet they say...Thank you Richard Tandy...RIP.
