  • Gold and silver have long been associated with religious rituals throughout various societies. They are often used to create sacred objects, adornments, and symbols that are integral in such practices. In many ancient civilizations, gold and silver were considered celestial metals that connected humans to masculine sun and feminine moon divine respectively. The Rebis is a being of both male and female qualities, the sun and moon corresponding to the male and female halves.
    Within Elden Ring, gold can be seen as symbolizing the Greater Will, Erdtree, Godwyn, Leyndell and of course the Golden Order; while silver symbolizes the Dark Moon, night sky, Ranni, the Eternal Cities and the Nox. The Shattering resulted in the Greater Will punishing Marika for her betrayal by merging her with Radagon, imprisoning them all within the Erdtree. What if prior to the Shattering the original plan was to fuse Godwyn and Ranni instead? Godwyn representing the sun and Ranni representing the moon - two opposites - in order to form the Rebis, a physical vessel strong enough to contain the Greater Will.

    • @EldenTales
      @EldenTales  8 месяцев назад +1

      Alchemists were convinced that mercury transcended both the solid & liquid states, both earth & heaven, both life & death. The metal is often also represented by a serpent or snake. Interestingly the item description for pestilent mist states that it’s highly dangerous sorcery employed by Dragon School spooks. Only taught to trusted members. Dragons and serpents are very closely related in the bestiary tradition. Dragons are described as the largest of serpents; allegorically, they are like the Devil, who is sometimes presented as a monstrous serpent.

    Looking forward to watching this video! Before I do, If you really want to see how deep the Gold and Silver dichotomy go you should read GRRM's short story In The House of the Worm, part his Thousand Worlds series. Above, people wearing the Golden Theta worship the Great White Worm, but below, far below, the multi-limbed Grouns (who remind me greatly of Royal Revenants) are found in dark underground halls decorated by the Silver Theta. Gold and Silver doesn't look too different from Ice and Fire after all 😜

      Thank you very much for your extremely kind words, it means a great deal coming from you! I very much enjoyed “Why Did The Carian Queen Grieve?”. I had never heard of In the House of the Worm by GRRM. Went through a couple of summaries and what a fantastic story, thank you for sharing it! It gave me some major Dune vibes; the underground city within the House of Worm obviously reminds me of the eternal cities.
      At first I thought you were talking about The House of the Worm, a collection of stories by American writer Gary Myers. The book is a close stylistic imitation of H. P. Lovecraft, effectively an expansion of Lovecraft's Dream Cycle.
      The mentions of exploring pitch black passageways in the underground city of GRRM's In the House of the Worm sounded straight out of At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft. The narrative is basically a scientific expedition to Antarctica that turns into the discovery of a long forgotten city created by beings referred to as Elder Things. Elder Things first came to Earth shortly after the Moon took form, and built their cities with the help of "shoggoths"-biological entities created to perform any task, assume any form, and reflect any thought. There is a hint that all Earthly life evolved from cellular material left over from the creation of the shoggoths. Sort of like a silver tear, don't you think?

      @@EldenTales If you enjoyed Why Did The Carian Queen Grieve? Im curious if youve seen the latest upload.
      I'm glad you bring up silver tears!
      Here’s a theory I’ve been working on
      As we know the Elden Stars is the Elden Beast, which become the Elden Ring, and the Elden Ring is metaphysical laws of nature. The Elden Beast is just a big space ameba, lands on a planet, this impact creates rivers, and then I assume its runes travel through the rivers and turn the chaotic crucible soup into ordered life. Oscar Wilde once said: "Without order nothing can exist-without chaos nothing can evolve". This big golden space bug created life, and when you kill it, you get "God Slain". God is a big uncaring space bug.
      Well what are silver tears, if not man attempting to mimic god? We find silver bugs, silver plants, they can turn into giants, they can turn into people. Albinaurics are beings made by human hands. If gold is of God and the divine, silver is man's attempt to become god and create life.
      What do you think of that? Would love to network sometime.

      @@EldenTales GRRM took a whole lot of inspiration from HP Lovecraft. Like, a HEAP LOAD. Throughout his writings both sci fi and fantasy including ASOIAF, quite a lot of his worlds and the peoples and cultures and gods and creatures are riddled with HP Lovecraftianesque similarities.

    very cool video but Godwyn wasn't an empyrean. I think that to achieve rebis the greater will would want to have both individuals be empyrean. What do you think? Maybe Ranni was supposed to be the magnum opus of Marika and Radagon before she killed herself. Maybe Miquella will be able to achieve this form in the DLC given how he seems to have both masculine and feminine attributes

    • @EldenTales
      @EldenTales  6 месяцев назад +1

      @TheMrgogo360 thank you for taking the time to watch! I completely understand where you're coming from. The rebis, like you mentioned, is a merging of both masculine and feminine qualities; the sun and the moon correspond to the male and female halves, just as the Red King and White Queen are similarly associated.
      Typically when people mention the rebis in ER they point to Radagon (Red King) & Marika (White Queen); as they are merged together by the Greater Will as a form of punishment, containing both the masculine & feminine in one body. Personally I feel as though Queen Rennala of the Full Moon seems to have a better claim to the White Queen, as the White Queen is associated with the moon. Rennala's union with Radagon culminating in the creation of Ranni. You stated that Ranni was supposed to be the magnum opus; Ranni is said to be the product of Rennala & Radagon (although I do not believe Rennala has the ability to conceive, which is why she uses the amber egg, a topic for another day).
      Your mention of Miquella also makes sense being the rebis, as you stated the character is known for their gender fluidity (St. Trina sword/Lanya's background information given through Diallos's quest/Dolores the Sleeping Arrow). Plus Miquella is the product of the union of between the houses of the Erdtree (sun) and the Full Moon (Full Moon Crossbow).
      Side note the notion of the chemical marriage in alchemy is quite similar to the integration of yang and yin in Taoism. In this regard the manga Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree the Tarnished competes against Godrick in a grafting contest. The Tarnished makes an octopus, Godrick copies him last minute making a darker octopus, I believe this is to represent yin & yang. Miquella is represented via the octopus for a multitude of reasons.
      In this video I was attempting to speak of the alchemical wedding between the Red King and the White Queen. The Red King is muscularity, sulfur, the sun, air and fire. Air & fire relating to Farum Azula, dragons & Godwyn (dragon cult/red lighting). While the White queen is femininity, mercury, the moon, water and earth. Water & earth relating to Liurnia of the Lakes, crystals (earth), & Ranni (dark moon). The Greater Will, like the other (outer) gods, could be seeking a vessel to physically influence the Lands Between. The Greater Will seems to seek ultimate control, while the Outer Gods seem to seek balance. The rebis being a vessel strong enough to contain the power of a god.
      The culmination of the alchemical wedding is also about the merging of spirit and soul, the spirit descends to meet the soul and the soul rises to meet the spirit. This is what led me to the theory posited in this video as we know on the Night of the Black Knives Lunar Princess Ranni sacrificed her flesh, while Godwyn perished in soul alone (Cursemark of Death). To mend order back into the lands the Tarnished must gain both pieces of the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. One of the pieces is found on Rannis body, the other found on Godwyn. This could represent the merging of spirit and the soul.
      Of course all of these theories are purely speculation and I am by no means a scholar of ER lore. I just thoroughly enjoy a good conversation about abstract ideologies & you have provided me with such; therefore I am grateful for your perspective and thoughts!

      @@EldenTales Thank you for your answer. I've seen all your videos and I learned a lot of interesting things, not only about Elden Ring but also about the laws and the myths that govern our lives and universe. I should be the one thanking you. I made a mistake about Ranni being the daughter of Marika and Radagon. I assumed (in my headcanon) that since Malenia and Miquella (both empyreans) were conceived by R and M, Ranni was their "hidden" daughter since she is also an empyrean. I forgot about the actual facts

    • @EldenTales
      @EldenTales  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheMrgogo360 your headcanon may be in fact correct. As I also believe that Empyreans are born from a single god, or the essence of that "god" (e.g. sap of the Erdtree/Crucible Tree). Although in game it's stated that Ranni is the child of Radagon & Rennala, I believe there is more to this story (as Rennala may be unable to produce children due to her silver tear heritage). There is still much to be discovered as we have not been presented with all of the facts, hopefully the DLC will give us more information to work with. That being said the amber egg may have been crucial to Ranni's birth as an Empyrean. My headcanon is that Ranni and Melina are the twin spirits that make up the Twinbird. The Twinbird is scarcely mentioned in the Lands Between. It is portrayed as a two-headed bird with half-red and half-blue or black plumage. The Twinbird is said to be the envoy of an Outer God, and the mother of the Deathbirds. Both Ranni & Melina are associated with death and both sacrifice themselves through their own volition in order to achieve a grander purpose (eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Twinbird).
      I cannot express how delighted I am that you not only took the time to watch and have a conversation; but that you also learned something new about our world in the process! Thank you again for your time and I sincerely hope you have a wonderful day!

    It's easy to find alchemical connections within Elden RIng but hard to use these connections to conclude definitive story elements. It is easy to see alchemical concepts in all of Fromsoft's stories, but it's also easy to misapply them trying to understand specific story details from them. It's the same when trying to decipher questions presented in the game by trying to connect to George RR Martin's previous works; story elements may be similar between stories but they do not help coming up with definitive answers.
    Many of connections but also many reaches in this video. For example hinting Rennala creating Rykard from a larval tear from appearance of the abductor virgin is a reach. There's no hint of Rykard being disabled just like the albinaurics. Rykard was humanoid just like all the demi god children before acquiring shards of the Elden Ring, only turning monstrous with their great runes. Per Rykard's painting he shares Radagon's red hair hinting at parentage of both Rennala and Radagon; Both Radahn and Ranni were humanoid and not disabled.
    Using concept of the Rebis to understand the implications of the joining of Radagon and Marika might also fail to certain extend, when it is better defined by the character of Miquella. Miquella being result of joining of Red King and White Queen, with hermaphroditic features, both male and female qualities, understood to be the most fearsome of the demi gods, and specialize in unalloyed gold being symbol of alchemical purity.
    It's fun to find connections between in game lore and real life concepts, but they are just connections anyone can make by just pulling up a Wikipedia articles, they do not help ultimately.

    • @EldenTales
      @EldenTales  5 месяцев назад

      @0987ggggg I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to watch & reply! Is Miquella confirmed to be hermaphroditic? St Trina's sword states that "St. Trina is an enigmatic figure. Some say she is a comely young girl, others are sure he is a boy", but isn't that simply because Miquella is cursed with eternal youth, making him more androgynous due to his young age. Those that actually know Miquella, like his sister Malenia, refer to him with male pronouns: "My brother will keep his promise. He possesses the wisdom, the allure, of a god - he is the most fearsome Empyrean of all.” I believe Miquella to be closer to referencing the philosopher’s child (filius philosophorum): a result of the alchemical wedding of the Red King/White Queen.
      There does seem to be a few in-game hints about Rykard & Radahn both having mobility issues (Ranni having discarded her empyrean flesh is a bit harder to prove). The Gelmir Knight Helm, once worn by those loyal to Praetor Rykard, features a crest of red feathers to symbolize Rykard's pedigree as Lord Radagon's son. Within the plume of red feathers that decorate the helm there are noticeable white/grey feathers peeking out, what is the purpose of the white/grey feathers? Rykard also turns into a snake, a creature known to slither as it is unable to walk due to a lack of legs. Tanith, Rykard's consort, wears a mask that includes oval/egg shaped silver piece (could be in reference to Volcano Manor being a place of birth, or related to the birthing of the silver blooded Albinaurics) in the middle of the mask. Multiple gold strands hang down off of the Consort's Mask, hidden within the gold are small silver beads. A synonym for the term bead is droplet & Albinaurics were artificially created via a droplet (Ripple Blade). I'll be covering Rykard's & Radahn's mobility issues in Radagon: Blood & Heritage Pt.2.

    is grace consiousness?

    • @EldenTales
      @EldenTales  6 месяцев назад +2

      @Jasonmakesvideo fantastic question!
      Grace (Grace of Gold) is a blessing given to people throughout the Lands Between by the Elden Ring and the Erdtree that symbolizes its presence. Those who had grace bestowed on them, but later lost it, are known as Tarnished. At some point, Queen Marika the Eternal took away Grace from Godfrey, First Elden Lord and his kinfolk, turning them into Tarnished. They then left the Lands Between in an event called the Long March of the Tarnished. Long afterwards, Grace would be returned to them, or their descendants, and they would be called back to the Lands Between. It is said that true guidance awaits those with iron wills and unwavering faith, although it can be lost. In fact, most Tarnished don't even see it nowadays. (eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Grace)
      To answer your question you must first define your perspective of consciousness.
      Consciousness can be described as an awareness of internal and external existence. In some explanations, consciousness is synonymous with the mind, and at other times, an aspect of mind. In the past, it was one's "inner life", the world of introspection, of private thought, imagination and volition. The current thought is that consciousness often includes any kind of cognition, experience, feeling or perception. It may be awareness, awareness of awareness, or self-awareness either continuously changing or not. Mental processes (such as consciousness) and physical processes (such as brain events) seem to be correlated; however the specific nature of the connection is unknown.
      The first influential philosopher to discuss this question specifically was Descartes, and the answer he gave is known as Cartesian dualism. Descartes proposed that consciousness resides within an immaterial domain he called res cogitans (the realm of thought), in contrast to the domain of material things, which he called res extensa (the realm of extension). Descartes suggested that the interaction between these two domains occurs inside the brain, perhaps in a small midline structure called the pineal gland. Although it is widely accepted that Descartes explained the problem cogently, few later philosophers have been happy with his solution, and his ideas about the pineal gland have especially been ridiculed. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consciousness)
      I would say that grace is more of a reference to divine grace rather than consciousness. Divine grace is a theological term present in many religions. It has been defined as the divine influence which operates in humans to regenerate and sanctify, to inspire virtuous impulses, and to impart strength to endure trial and resist temptation; and as an individual virtue.
      In Hindu devotional literature grace is referred to as kripa, it can be considered it to be the only way to transcend the bondage of lifetimes of karma. Madhvacharya, a Hindu philosopher, thought that grace was not a gift from god, but rather must be earned.
      The doctrine of the Jōdo Shinshū branch of Pure Land Buddhism utilizes the concept of merit. Merit refers to the power of good karma built up over time through meditation, this merit can be transferred to other sentient beings by a spiritual adept (bodhisattva) motivated by compassion for all beings cultivated through attaining bodhicitta. The key difference between Shinran's school and other schools of Pure Land Buddhism is the idea that even this faith and the resulting small effort of reciting Amida's name is impossible without the intervening grace of Amida Buddha working in the deluded human being through the power of Amida's primal vow. Therefore, the recitation of Amida's name is seen more as an expression of gratitude for already-existing grace rather than the self-induced catalyst for a grace not yet present.
      Grace in Christianity is the free and unmerited favour of God as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowing of blessings. Common Christian teaching is that grace is unmerited mercy (favor) that God gave to humanity by sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross, thus securing man's eternal salvation from sin.
      Within Christianity, there are differing concepts of how grace is attained. In particular, Catholics and Reformed Protestants understand the attainment of grace in substantially different ways. It has been described as the watershed that divides Catholicism from Protestantism, Calvinism from Arminianism, and modern liberalism from conservatism. Catholic doctrine teaches that God has imparted divine grace upon humanity and uses the vehicle of sacraments, which are carried out in faith, as a primary and effective means to facilitate the reception of his grace. Rennalas Moon reflecting the light is ment to show that the moon and the sun probably came into existence at a similar time where the moon was a bit earlier.. Raya Lucaria = raya meaning rays, lucaria meaning bringer of light or similar, together rays of the bringer of light.. rennalas moon/ raya lucaria was an omen to the soon rising sun..... thus why rennala became queen when she showed up with the brightest and biggest thing in the nightsky.. after a while the sun would rise (godwyns birth/maturing/land bathed in golden rays) and both fought over the reign in the nightsky thus why the golden order attacking raya lucaria... radagon bringing equilibrium between the two, trying to unify both principles creating the next vessel for the elden ring (when the moon is over the sun = eclipse) but ranni would envision her perfect moon without any other dominant light in the sky hence why killing godwyn to create a dark moon that doesnt reflect the sunlight at all just as it could have been before the rise of the golden order.. when they still were astrologers and just watching the nightsky unfold his mysteries as her mother told her in some bedtime stories maybe?
