Just a heads up. If the issue was 12V and the diagnosis was a bad EME it's probable that the EME is not charging the 12V. In other words, there is a strong possibility that the car will die once the 12V discharges. Verify that it is charging before going anywhere with it.
Love this video, so glad you uploaded it. The video of you freaking out when it went in to drive was the best. I wouldn’t feel bad about this deal working out so well for you, you accepted risk when you bought the cars, and you had the skill and know how to profit from them. Keep up the great work!
Im glad you enjoyed it, I really debated about making it. I think this is the most raw I’ve ever been on camera😂 Your explanation makes me feel better. At the end of the day I had no idea it was going to be like this and I’m putting all the blame on the dealer. Appreciate you watching!
Tell me about it! I almost always buy shit I have to completely tear apart just to make decent😂 the previous owners were pretty well off so I don’t think this was too big of a hit for them. Huge score for me though😮💨
Thanks! I feel you on that, I really want to do an electric conversion on something old using Nissan leaf components. Especially after driving the i3 around
That’s awesome I really wish this was a Rex model. If it was I would probably keep it for years and road trip it. Still going to be perfect for me here in the city 80% of the time
Be happy it's not the REX version. I had one, the connecting shaft between the gas motor and generator developed a crack. So it sent misfire and ping codes like wild. Turns out it's a somewhat common fault. New coils and plugs did nothing. Wiped the codes, brought it to a chevy dealership to trade in (with a mostly full battery) and said nothing. Loved it tho, top of the line model with the traffic buster package (auto follow car in front).
Thats wild asf. I actually really wanted a Rex model because I could actually roadtrip it potentially. Good to know now. Smart man though fuck these dealerships. What did you end up getting?

Whats that? A Canadian Mounty hat with a BMW sign on it? That saves the video because I expected you'll put a Honda Goldwing B6 engine in the I3. Serious: great score and it shows that general rule that a new battery will fix more than 50% of all German premium car troubles.
It’s actually a straw hat! It does look like a mounty hat though😮💨 if this thing needed an EME it might’ve been cheaper to do the gold wing swap. I also have a triumph 955i engine laying around👀 I’m still blown away that no one wanted to try putting a new battery in
@ yeah your 100% right I got it for a diahatsu k truck but I just can’t go through with it. It would be cool to put it in a spitfire to keep it a triumph build.
Yep, dealerships are the worst sometimes... I took my old Volvo to the Volvo dealer. I knew it needed drive shafts. Dealer quotes $1500+labour. Went to independent car shop. $530 for the parts and a bit for the labour.. So yeah, you always need to look around first, and do the homework.. But crackin deal on the little Bimer 4sure... 👌
Honestly weirdly enough the Volvo dealer in my experience here has been one of the better ones. I’ve only ever sent cars over for programming and keys though.
Loved the video and the message at the end!! Here's my dilemma, seeing how the dealer essentially screwed the previous owners, should you or anyone in your posting, let the previous owners know about the whole situation and give them an option to buy back the vehicle + the charges you incurred.
Ok so I’ve had a situation like this once before and honestly if these people are completely over this car and don’t even want to look at it. It’s better not to bring them back and put salt in the wound. When I had this happen before the people were more upset that I messaged them. These people especially didn’t even respond when I asked if they had the charger laying around.
For the first few seconds, I thought I was watching a George Michael video. Regardless, we need more videos of this car. The fact that it just needed a 12v battery is insane!
This reminds me of when I bought an X5 the dealer diagnosed as having a locked up engine...$12K to repair. The car had 50K miles and was showroom new...and 5 years old. I paid $1500, as well. Performed some diagnosis and discovered the crank case vent valve had failed and oil was directed into the cylinders, thereby hydrolocking the engine. Removed the coils and plugs, evacuated the oil, replaced the valve and sold it the following week for $12K. YOU CANNOT TRUST DEALERS.
That is exactly what I am talking about! I had a customer bring me an x3 with a BMW diagnosed bad engine and the low oil light was on. Long story short the owner KEPT ADDING OIL until the engine was full to the top😂 after cleaning all the lines out and draining oil the car ran great. It only had 40k miles
First of all, don’t feel guilty for a simple reason: you took an incredible risk. It’s fair to empathize with the person who sold it to you. Now let me tell you about my experience with a Toyota OFFICIAL dealer. I purchased a Tacoma certified pre-owned vehicle that had passed a 160-point quality assurance inspection. Less than a year later, I received a letter from Toyota about a recall to inspect the frame because, apparently, for some models, they had either made mistakes or forgotten to apply the anti-rust coating. I reluctantly took it to the dealer where I had purchased it because I figured it would just be a waste of time! After all, I had just bought it, and among the 160 inspection points, there was supposed to be a guarantee of a frame in perfect condition. Well, you can already guess how this story ends… the frame was completely replaced! Great job by Toyota, but the dealer? A cheapskate (and I won’t name names).
That’s crazy dude I’ve heard about people getting new frames under warranty but never talked to someone who actually had it happen. How long did it take them? Pretty insane how somebody “inspected it” and couldn’t see massive structural damage in the form of rust😮💨 I wish dealers were better
@AgatasKatkus If I remember correctly, it took them about a week to change the frame, but they didn’t give me a courtesy car in the meantime. The funny thing is that the frame (maybe it’s normal... I don’t know) came with new brakes already installed! A nice bonus... I risked my life for a year, but at least I got new brake discs in the end :)
Dont worry brother! The bikes are coming I won’t be buying anymore cars I just need to finish my projects and sell them so I can move to a better shop space!
@@AgatasKatkus Spain. The cheapest ones start at 10.000 € (10,300 USD) but the good ones go for up to 20.000 €. 6 or 7 years ago you could get one for 7.000 or so but they went up when 'eco' restrictions started... The used car market in the EU is broken to be fair.
