A couple years ago, not vegan or vegetarian, but I was trying to lose weight and eat healthier. So I started eating a ton more leafy greens and green veggies (Kale, Spinach, Brussel Sprouts, green beans, broccoli, arugula, and cabbage). A year later I got a kidney stone, turns out my body type doesn't process calcium well and I can't eat most green veggies anymore because my kidneys can't process them very well.
Conversely, my body deals very well with high protein and fat, in fact I have low cholesterol despite having a large amount of meat in my diet.
The moral of the story, everybody's body is different and no diet/lifestyle works for everyone.

    • @miz4535

It's not calcium it's oxalates. Just don't eat too much high oxalate food (especially raw) and you'll be fine. What is high cholesterol to you? Because "normal" cholesterol levels are atherogenic. Also looking at your image, you are overweight.

That horrendously lonely feeling during end stage veganism when you feel like your body and life is breaking down, while you watch all your loved ones happily living their lives, wondering what is wrong with you. Only long term vegans can understand. I wish you nothing but the best health and recovery. I’m 2 years ex vegan (after 7 yrs veg then 7yrs vegan) and still very much in recovery. It is a long process but your body wants to heal and build up its reserves ❤️‍🩹

He explained that when you stop eating animal protein and fat your thyroid starts to go into protective mode. It pumps out hormones to keep you feeling energetic because you aren't ingesting any. Eventually the thyroid begins to fail and we start to become cold and tired vegans. Remember when Freelee used to wear cut off gloves all the time because she was cold...IN THE JUNGLE!

I had multiple blood tests, abdominal ultra sound, an upper endoscopy, etc. I was dizzy, lightheaded, and in pain everyday for months. I couldn't eat anything and lost so much weight. My heart would pound in my ears constantly. My blood pressure was super high. I was having panic attacks almost everyday. I called an ambulance 3 times, and went to the ER at least twice as many times
Idk what it was that made me start to think it might be veganism. It didn't even occur to me for awhile. But when i did, i watched a bunch of videos of other people who quit being vegan. I went all in and ate nothing but animal foods and a little bit of fruit. Lots of dairy, eggs, and beef. A couple months went by and i just realized one day that i felt so much better. Ive been vegan for over 20 years but have been suffering with many similar symptoms for the past 10 years. No answers from the medical world!! But did find some problems from tests with my functional medicine doctor which I’m dealing with now. My journey started from a health perspective and transitioned to ethical veganisim. I have been torn mentally between both worlds and through advise from my doctor I started with salmon last year. I did have some good improvement but have not been consistent as I continue to struggle with my ethical commitment I have made for so many years. As well as mental issues about being a hypocrite after all the this time especially to those I have taught and inspired along the way😞. Anyway thanks for sharing this, I have found it very relatable to me and I’m seriously considering a consistent transition.

Enjoyed the post and i wanted to add my experience or over 30 years vegetarian ( occasional dairy ) i dont have or have had any of the physical issues as most of the comments state.
The reasons that decrease health could be to do with a few things other than a plant based diet. Some bodies dont handle processed grain flour products.
And if emotional stress exists its possible nutrients are not being absorbed.
Good luck in finding the way.

I can relate to this. The first thing I tried was fish oil in capsules and I felt euphoric for months. Then slowly decided to introduce other animal products. I had been lacto vegetarian from birth and in my 30’s. So I really expected to do that for life. I had also believed the plant based life was nice so I had also removed dairy for some periods which was the only animal product. I got all the health issues you mentioned except I was overweight instead. A turning point was that I became allergic to the plant based capsules on my supplements and had to spend time every day opening all the capsules and putting the powder into a glass of water and drinking the contents. Also you cannot supplement your way out of deficiency.

I was a vegetarian for over 3 months. I really wanted to stop eating meat entirely after watching certain documentry which shows how farm animals are treated ( couldn't sleep two nights after watching this, and decided at that point I will never eat meat again).
After 3 months of not eating meat at all, I got so weak I couldn't perform basic excercise. Normally I do HIIT couple times a week, I am quite strong and have normally very high stamina, I hike for hours.
After I noticed these effects, I decided I can't sustain this diet for any longer.

The farms that practice regenerative farming and don’t pump their animals with drugs and hormones and only focus on feeding them an appropriate species specific diet and give them land to roam around in and actually live on, they’re the true hero’s. You are not a failure. There are chapters in life. It’s just time to move forward. Rock stars can’t be rock stars forever. They lose their voices… they get injuries and then it’s time to move on. Being a rock star was fun, but it doesn’t define a person. Look at Barry sanders. Great great football player. He retired after only 10 years when he was about to break the rushing record. football was a part of him, it didn’t define him. Fans still love him and miss him. And real fans still cheer him on in his next chapter of life because he was a class act guy.
You are a class act woman. You try to help people as best as you can and that is respected. Don’t feel bad you’re moving forward. It’s sad, because it was a part of you for 9 years, but that’s ok. I loved wrestling but it came to an end and I moved on. I became a doctor. I love it. Been one for 11 years now. But I’m looking forward to the next chapter when that retirement day comes. I’m not going to stay a doctor if I stop enjoying it. Sometimes it’s hard because people don’t want to fix their own problems and just want a pill. When I can’t handle it anymore, I will retire like Barry sanders and move on. This is your transition point. It’s bitter sweet. But look forward to the sweet. Don’t dwell on the bitter. There’s a Chinese saying: eating bitter let’s you taste sweet. Remember that. ❤️

Watching your video was like listening to myself talk..your story, is my story. Replace your sweet doggo, with a relationship ending though for me, it was very traumatic for me and sent me spiraling, eventually the dizziness came on 24/7 along with heart palps, crushing anxiety, ER visits, going to every specialist only to be told I was “fine” and “just anxious” went to an eye specialist and got special lenses..nothing helped. After some encouragement from family, and seeing this video I made up my mind this past Monday (on my 5 year vegan anniversary) to start eating salmon and eggs again, I already am feeling a slight difference, and am excited to get on the right track again with my health and having my life back!

I think it's only something to eat when available seasonally. so many of the veg you see in the stores are man-made and not found in nature. e.g., broccoli and all these strange greens. not to mention vegans are consuming unknown amount of pesticides! veganism is lacking 15 essential nutrients. it's an experimental diet.

The point of supplement is temporary provide what person doesn´t consume naturally for a specific period of time to get levels back to normal. I was also scared that I will need more than just B12 and the idea that I have more pills on my plate than my grandma was very weird. I wanted to put ethics as priority mostly because I felt guilt for eating animal products but after being honest with myself, my health was and still is my priority. Really? My experience is completely the opposite. Meat eaters get so angry when they find out I don't eat meat. They seem to take it as a personal offense and go on a crusade to prove me wrong. Vegans are more mournful and sad over the needless suffering and cruelty than angry.

Glad to hear you're doing so much better now. A long road but you'll get there.
Never think of it as failure, failure would be not changing and getting more ill or worse. Nothing is failing if it's something you have to do to survive.
I had a load of issues a few years back after eating certain things and worked out it was all the processed foods with all the chemicals (our food in the UK has less than half the chemicals yours does in the states too), once I cut them out and started making everything myself from scratch most of the issues stopped. But at the same time I was eating a lot of Quorn products (a meat free company in the UK which does have all those preservatives etc in) cause my girlfriend at the time was vegetarian with an eating disorder so I changed my whole eating habits around her to help her be able to eat more. After she left I noticed the strangest thing, I couldn't even stand the sight of raw meat except for bacon and mince beef/lamb, and I'd completely forgotten how to cook meat. And 5 years of no tomatoes due to her intolerance to them, I couldn't eat them anymore, now even after several years the acidity still makes me ill if I have too much tomato in a meal

I have issues when it comes to food too, I have to eat what I feel hungry for when I feel hungry or I might not eat for a day or 2, so things I cook have to be quick, anything over half an hour / 45 minutes and I'm not hungry anymore . Headaches and migraines (I’ve always had them). It was all down to my iron levels and was unaware of being iron deficient. We are more likely to get it due to menstruation, men can get it too.
But yeah doctors need to learn nutrition, so do we! I think it should be taught in schools and from a non bias perspective.

I appreciate you sharing your vegan journey. I can relate that it's not easy to stay with veganism when you start getting health problems even when you KNOW you are eating the healthiest you possibly can. Like you, I've been vegan for a long time, about 8 years. The whole time, I've had eczema on my face; red, flaking skin right where everyone who talks to me can see it. My self esteem plummeted 🙁The only thing that cured it was when I stopped eating whole grains. This made me seriously doubt veganism as something that is good for everyone. I'm experimenting with eating meat right now, although I'm a little skeptical since it makes me sleepy after I eat it.
Anyway, I think it's good to prioritize your health over ethics. Wishing you the best in your health

I don't think there is such a thing as "it's good to prioritize health over ethics". If you think something is right (which seems to be what you mean by "good") you think it is ethical. Theres no way It os ethical to prioritize something over ethics.

It’s way more ethical to support the local regenerative farmers that care for their animals and treat them humanely. Nothing is gained by causing your own self to suffer. And the mom and pop farms who’ve had their small farms in their family for generations are now losing their property to massive industrialized farms. They don’t give af about the animals. They stuff them full of drugs and feed them inappropriate and cheap garage food-like substitutes and it actually causes the live stock to develop diabetes and heart disease and cancer, all the same diseases westerners have. The mom and pop local farms aren’t doing this!!! They have beautiful happy animals that can live to 20 years of age because they get to eat grass all day and graze the wide open lands. And when it’s time for them to give their lives it’s done humanely. And from the sacrifice of 1 cow we can feed so many people and allow them to thrive. Please support local farms.

Similar journey, after getting very anxious after losing some family members, whose diets led to their early demise, or at least that is what I was told, I changed my eating habits and started to eat mainly vegetables and fruits. The weight dropped off me and made me actually look and feel very weak and lethargic, everyone made comments about my weight and how I looked very skinny. I have never been overweight and was always considered to be within the healthy BMI range (24) and now I am at the lower end, more towards the underweight BMI (18).
So, my advice to anyone who's in the same boat, is eat a nutritious diet, with plenty of healthy choices, don't be completely vegan, eat meat, eggs, chicken, bread, pasta etc, although the carbs need to be balanced and not too high (maybe 100g or better) as that can be problematic and raise glucose levels.
Another extremely important point I would like to add, was my relationship with food from a very early age, I would associate certain food types to unhealthy states, like being overweight and obesity, and many around me were very unconcerned when they were carrying excess weight and munched on snack foods most of the day. No exercise and overeating became my pet hate cycle, and I would struggle to eat small portions, when others could consume 3-4 times the food I could manage. As time passed, I witnessed family and friends' health decline and they passed away too young, from what was 'in my perspective' of 'preventable health problems' I was convinced I had been right all along, this compounded my restricted eating habits and rapidly losing weight immensely. However, I had gone to other extreme, and losing weight that put me in danger from being malnourished and underweight, that made me feel very unwell and unhealthy, so we have to be careful at both ends of the spectrum and somehow maintain a healthy balance.
Please, kindly be aware that restricted diets are not healthy, a balanced nutritious intake of varying foods, vitamins and exercise will maintain your mental, physical and emotional well-being and you will live longer!
All in all, moderation and regular meals are the key to staying healthy and you will benefit greatly and look much healthier. Don't overeat and stick to a 2000 calorie daily intake and you will be fine.

I was trying to lose weight & did succeed in about a 25lb loss. I however was very tired and losing my once thick hair. I recently stopped being vegan and was eating dairy, eggs and poultry for a week now. I decided yesterday to try to eat just seafood. I keep wondering if it was just me, not doing the diet correctly. I was taking B-12 pills but still on low side. I'd take 1000 mcg but would sometimes miss a few days...your video has helped me gain good insight. Thankyou..i also will mention my energy is now coming back. I just feel better..the first day i ate an egg i had planned to just eat one...i had 6 of them...my stomach rumbled & rumbled but in a good way, like it was thanking me...i felt so much better on just that...it really is like your body is saying, it needed that.

I became anemic again 2 years ago after having a copper IUD for just 6 months, which caused very heavy cycles. I had to go to the hospital and get iron injections and later had the IUD removed. I had to go on birth control pill for a year with supplements just to get my iron levels back to normal. I finally stopped taking the birth control pills a few months ago after having my iron levels finally test normal bc they were making me crazy. Long story short - I become anemic very easily - my body NEEDS meat! Supplements unfortunately are not enough. I love animals & I love the idea of being vegan - I don’t even like steak that much but I force myself to eat it or lamb at least once a week bc I don’t want to go through what I went through again!

8:55 it's actually more than that, if you don't get B12 your body actually starts to eat the brain and spinal cord. also bc of the complexity of B12, there are only cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin on the market as supplements to buy BUT that isn't adequate. very scary.

Theeth problem can happen over the years as we get older regardless of diet. You should be careful with strong citric food like lemons to protect your teeth. Go to a vegan doctor and get proper advice :) also read the book of alissa vitti on how to fix your hormones. That's works well vegan. The ethical and environmental aspect is a big issue yes

So i lost even more weight and could not gain any. At one point i was 52kg as a 1.90 male. Since i started high dosage therapy of b1 - for the first time in my life i gain weight in a easy a normal way.

Same story here. So proud you saw the light.
Life eats life. Its the nature of existence. Buddhism tenets say life is suffering. Through liberation of suffering, we will find the truth and find peace. Ironic some Buddhists misinterpret that as becoming vegan. This tenet made me realize I need more meat actually. I say grace to the animals. End suffering by creating suffering. Life is suffering but it can be ended through self discovery.

Plants are coated with pesticides...which may actually be a major cause of things like IBS and "leaky gut" aka intestinal permeability.
I think plants are important but I don't think that humans in the past ONLY ate plants. Just like I don't think that humans in the past ONLY ate meat esp if you consider seafood meat or not. Both veganism and carnivore are extreme diets.

    • @tarantulady8565
      @tarantulady8565 10 месяцев назад +1

Since you mentioned pesticides, I’ll put this little rant here…lol🤷🏻‍♀️😁
Plants contain their own pesticides (phytotoxins) they make themselves to keep animals from eating them. They can’t run from predators, so they make toxins to ward them off. In food, they’re referred to as anti-nutrients. These are oxalates, phytates & lectins. They’re ANTI-nutrients because they actually make nutrients in the food not bioavailable for humans to use/absorb & they will actually leech nutrients from your body & bind to them, robbing them from your body. They are what the vegan community never talks about, never addresses. It’s the ugly secret of the “vegan starvation diet.”
I was vegan for 3 years and when my health completely failed (to the point of pre-diabetes & losing 8 teeth from dietary deficiency), I was forced to step out of my altruistic, biased perspective & actually research the diet from the perspective of needing to understand its shortcomings…so I could understand why it was so harmful to my health. I was astounded at the hidden information, the misinformation, the ignorance & the outright bias-fueled LIES that surround the vegan diet.
From much research & personal suffering, IMO, the vegan diet is an incredibly harmful way of eating. It eventually catches up to you.

Hi! Greeting from an ex vegan too. I'm from Spain and when i started to go vegan theres was almost no information (like 8 y ago). But i was super into animal rights and i become an extremist vegan.
I even created a vegan group in my city and we was pioneers in making true boxes.
I was super into that because i studied a 2 year degree of animal science (like animal farming) and i started a degree in veterinary medice so i had plenty of information.
Like 3-4 years after starting in veganisim i started to fell unwell, i was felling sleepy, weak and pain all the time.
I had a really bad time realising i was not ok. I tried to change my diet, to take B12 suplements....
Finally 4 years later of veganism i started to eat milk and eggs (mostly organic) and some fish. That was one of the hardest things i ever done, i was feeling all the time like a murder.
I went to my vegan friends looking for some confort and they treated me like shit telling me i have never been a "real vegan" (despite i spent all my life doing voluntarism and study really hard with no life for help the animals).
In the end they refuse to talk to me, i left the group i created and i started to follow my own way.
After that i visited some organic farms (in Spain there's a strong regulation arond that) and i realized if we support small, grass-feed farms we are helping the animals (better live possible, natural cycles, good for enviroment and wild animals...) In my uni are making a research and they found that goat and sheeps in pastures are good for enviroment (they keep CO2 into the floor so they have negative carbon print). So now like 8 year later im staring to eating an small amount of meat from local bio farms.
The fact is follow a vegan diet is extremely dificult, you need to know a lot about nutrition. Any vegan talk about that but im pretty sure that the most of them have health problem. Nowdays veganims is not about helping animals, veganism is a religion how make you stay apart from your family, friends and even enyoy life.
I know some extra kind vegans, so i dont think all the people is bad. I'm only talking about my experience.
I really think if carnivores, flexitarians, vegans and vegetarian work all together we could make better for the animals.

Wow! This was an amazing video! You explained everything so perfectly, and how cool is that, that you are beautiful, smart, and a lawyer! that is also super artsy and plays music! What a great vibe! you described all your symptoms so perfectly and the thought processes while vegan, the always needing to maybe eat cleaner, or fast, or cleanse, or a new supplement. My friend and I were both raw vegans and swore we would do it for life, but I just wasn´t feeling right, no matter what i ate , all fruit, no fruit, just veggies, raw til 4, dates and bananas, only greens etc and my girlfriend, she had her own set of symptoms, losing her period, and hair falling out. Almost simultaneously we decided we were done, that we needed the cholesterol in eggs. Now we are full on carnivores! I still feel so bad for the animals, the first time down the meat isle I almost gagged and couldn´t do it. I still feel so bad, but i also know that i just couldn´t live one more day feeling so out of sorts and bad. So thank you so much for this video. Very well done

I don't mean to judge at all, I just thought you might have some insight. I see a lot of people getting stuck in a restrictive diet getting worse and worse outcomes without suspecting that their diet is a problem. This is particularly prevalent with restriction of animal-based foods in my experience.

A totally fair question! I saw some ex-vegan videos from time to time, but I'll be honest, I kind of dismissed the information because it simply "didn't apply to me." I felt pretty good most of time, and never correlated feeling tired, hormone issues, or having foggy brain with my diet. My bloodwork always came back great, which kills me to think about. I didn't understand that you can ingest a ton of plants and supplements, but your body might not be absorbing the nutrients. I always thought any issues I had were from stress or something else. Having my body start shutting down on me was an eye opener for sure. How can someone get like that when their diet is "so healthy"? Even with the significant supplement-taking that I did every day, to ensure I did not become deficient in nutrients, I still suffered severe health consequences to being vegan long-term. I just hope this video helps other vegans and vegetarians who are suffering with health conditions consider looking at their lifestyles, and to challenge a narrative that promotes plant-based living as the only acceptable way to live. What I've been through it not living. Not even close.
