Mechanically underwhelming as this boss may be, it is _goddamn terrifying._ A slow plunge into a dark cistern of exceedingly large depth, and there’s that one tentacle at the bottom next to that dark circle of sand you’re sinking towards and YOU KNOW WHAT’S COMING. Then you beat up his eye, no big deal, he goes away- AND THEN HE’S BACK AND HE’S HUGE AND HE’S HUNGRY.
As someone who suffers from Thalassophobia (Ironic, given I love the Sea - Tropical Islands, etc.), I have to say this Boss was really refreshing to face for being easy as it is. Boss review: Twilit Aquatic, Morpheel Location: Lakebed Temple Morpheel is the third boss of Twilight Princess. As the name implies, it's the first and only water boss of the game. A giant room underwater with a small divot in the center. That's where the giant sea creature resides. Design: From the start, we don't see much of the aquatic monster. Just a giant mouth with sharp teeth, electric tentacles and a twilit designed eye. Upon swimming out of the ground though, it's a giant eel! That's actually really cool. Fight: The fight doesn't initiate until Link sinks all the way down to the bottom of the room with the Iron Boots (and if you're lacking common sense, the Zora Armor). The first phase is rather simple: lock onto the eye and pull it out of the tentacle it's in with the Clawshot. Watch your surroundings though. Touch a tentacle and it's chow time for the eel. Strike the tentacles to keep them away. A few blows to the eye will cause Morpheel to deploy Bomb Fishes making targeting a tad bit tricky. Be patient and strike the eye. After enough hits, Morpheel will swim out of the ground and swim around. You'll have to keep up with it and latch onto the eye socket with the Clawshot then stab away at the eye. It's not gonna go down easy though. After four stabs, it'll shake Link off forcing him to repeat the same thing. Be sure to not swim in front of ot though otherwise it's lunchtime. Get eight more stabs and Morpheel is done. It'll crash into the wall, draining most of the water, have it's eye blow up into a Heart Container and dissolve into the final Fused Shadow. Conclusion: People usually hate Morpheel, but I for one actually enjoy the fight. Those tentacles in the beginning were a tad bit tricky to pay attention to. While Morpheel just swims around in phase two, it's still challenging to keep up with it. It takes the "keep moving to stay alive" strategy and turns it into a "keep moving to fight the boss" strategy. That's pretty cool. While keeping away from Morpheel's mouth is easy to do, it's still a bad attack to get caught into. To every Twilight Princess player, I pity you for not liking this boss. My honest score... *7.5/10*
I remember the first time, I encountered this "Beast" Phase 1 was very dissapointing, but when it came of the Whole, I was like "HOLY SHIT, THAT THING IS HUGE!!!" But yeah, very underwhelming... :( sadly - This Boss seems to be very promising at the beginning... :(
The epythome of wasted potential on a boss with an amazing, imposing design because of two things: lack of attacks and low damage output. First phase takes few hits to call for bomb fishes, then takes just as few hits to take to the next phase. The tentacles do almost nothing during the fight, they should at least do a sweep attack that requires you to shield or step out of the way. And then the second phase does no merits, either. Takes few hits to kill, there are no enemies to worry about, its only attack is to ocassionally lunge at you, eat you and... it only deals 1 heart. All bark and no bite for this boss. Overall, pretty disappointed ever since I battled it the first time. Could've done so much more, but it ended up being very underwhelming. And no, Hero Mode + Ganondorf amiibo don't save this thing, unfortunately :/
EddieDELTARUNE, fan of Nozomi I can say that most of the bosses in this game felt pretty bland and could’ve been better with all the things you mentioned. Argorok was another one. All you do is hookshot and use metal boots pretty simple, For Fyrus You just shoot his obvious glowing red gem in the center of his forehead and use metal boots while holding onto his shackles. And oh my god, they totally ruined ghoma for me. The design for the giant armored arachnid spider was PERFECT, HOWEVER, all it takes to destroy it is use a bow and arrow and shoot it once in the eye allowing it to fall on its back where you use the worst item in the game, the dominion rod to do 1 punch into the spider and just repeat the same steps. All these bosses COULDVE BEEN A HUGE SPARK FOR THE ZELDA COMMUNITY, but rather than making the bosses interesting they just made them look cool.
@@SuperPrestogamer "but rather than making the bosses interesting they just made them look cool." Kinda makes you wonder if that was done on purpose - Given at the time of the Original's release, many were upset with the Cel-Shaded Chibi Toon Style of the Wind Waker despite that being an actually good game, and complained that Zelda wasn't being the MATURE ADULT Nintendo series that many had expected it to be especially after Ocarina and Majora: Demanding Nintendo to make a serious mature and realistic take on Zelda much like the competition had also done during the time. A sort of "Well you wanted them to LOOK cool, we didn't have to make them BE cool" sort of approach. In that sense, it's actually pretty tongue in cheek with that sort of reasoning. At least the Zelda fans eventually embraced the cartoony art style of Wind Waker given the style worked with several good games, even clamoring Wind Waker itself as one of the best in the series. Same cannot be said of Metroid fans.
KahunaLagoona DX I can agree with you....and I also WAS one of the people who doubted windwaker would be a good game based on the graphics....but surprisingly when I started playing I couldn’t put the remote down...the game drew me in, they gave Zelda a new personality.... and I loved it, they threw in amazing enemies and temples, and I loved it, but the bosses, THEY ARE THE MAIN REASON I WANTED TO KEEP PLAYING, they were unique, interesting, and gave me a challenge that I loved when fighting them. I would probably rank it number 2-4 on my list of favorite Zelda games...it would be a solid two for sure, if you didn’t spend most of your time traveling back and forth on a huge plain ocean....other than that the story was good, the characters were great, and to top it all off, the bosses were incredible!
To this day, I believe my greatest achievement playing video games was defeating this boss without using Z targeting. TP was my first Zelda game and I was a child so I didn't know Z targeting was a thing, so I just aimed and timed my clawshots to get at the eyeball with no assistance. Took forever, but I eventually did it (and found out what Z targeting was shortly afterwards, making me feel stupid...)
I wish I could do this again! I was quite sad that Morpheel was very easy. I also love Morpheel’s theme too! I only played this game on the Wii because you were a lot more physical. Each time I played the game I would always try to challenge myself more and more. And then I would combine the challenges. My favorite challenge was in the game with an under 24 hours getting at least a 600 rupees bag, rupee draining armor, learning every secret technique and destroying every boss monster with the ending blow. Those were the days.
You know what would've been nice? If he parried your clawshot when you come from behind and used it to whip you in front of it, so you have to clawshot the eye from in front of it to get to do damage That sounds like a fun challenge
I love the way Nintendo transitions to a cutscene once you’ve clawshotted the boss. Like “now’s your chance, MASH B!” Aside from that, the brutal way the Hero of Twilight just stabs it 3x and then grips with both hands and just releases one final slice before letting go of the beast is so badass
This is my favourite boss, it’s not even hard. But the atmosphere is so cool being on the back on it stabbing it in the eye with that badass music playing

As for Breath of the Wild goes - it's definitely in the far future. But WHERE exactly isn't specified. There are references to ALL past games in some way or another. Even the Cutscene where people like to point out explicitly stating a reference to Twilight Princess in the English track also references other games in other timelines depending on the language (Wind Waker is referenced in the German track), and it doesn't help that Zelda is drowned out to make room for Daruk and Revali to speak so who knows what other games she was referencing then as well... They should’ve made it shoot electric orbs or something at least. Or maybe it could’ve had an intermittent electrical shield on it’s skin that would shock you if you hook shotted at the wrong time. Nonetheless, still a cool boss fight. Just could’ve been more challenging during the second phase
As much as the water temples in Zelda give me a headache, I have an appreciation for the lakebed temple and this boss (even though it’s pretty underwhelming aside from the design and the atmosphere) for being one of the most anxiety inducing levels in the whole game for me.
Gonna be honest, this boss really sucks as a boss fight in terms of battle mechanics, but nothing will ever beat that drop where Link screams and it echoes, then the environment of uncertainty and darkness when he reaches the bottom, then the first reveal of a bunch of clear tentacles and jagged mouth. And then when you think you defeated it, it comes out and reveals the sheer monstrosity of the boss (also design wise, absolutely love it). And while it does nothing to you, the sheer joy of when you manage to latch onto it's eyelid and repeatedly stab into it's eye with the "Vulnerable Boss" motif playing as you stab it is literally the best thing ever!
The atmosphere of this boss fights was phenomenal, even the design of the actual boss itself was good. But the fight was just... not at all matching the mood of the setting.
It says something about how easy this boss is that the video is titled as if it's ostensibly an upload of the boss fight, but then the actual boss fight is less than half the video duration. It's too bad, because it's one of THE biggest Zelda bosses, but it goes down so easily.
the first part of this boss is sort of underwhelming, however it 100% feels like a oot reference. the 2nd part is way more interesting and even tho it kinda just swims around its so badass that it doesn’t even matter. although i do wish there was stuff trying to hit you so it at least felt more dire
Why does it look more realistic in Gamecube than the remaster? Gamecube looks like he's really underwater, here it looks like he's just floating in the air
would love an MP4 of this boss'es mouth attack and second stage mouth attack, it's sooo squishy, it sounds like when you press a water balloon down but don't pop it. # MildlySatisfying
the first phase, as short as it is, was more irritating than anything else. alot of poorly timed swings on my end + slow movement through the battle arena made it annoyingly frustrating. but phase two was over in less than a minute
It would’ve been better if the beast actually went for an attack I actually would have enjoyed getting pissed off for a difficult level rather than feeling disappointment on such a good design of a monster
When I was little, I always got turned on by Morpheel. I didn’t know what was happening to me but I started h*mping my pillow until I got an amazing feeling. This was the first time I came, I really felt ashamed and never talked to my parents about it
I like the atmosphere and boss design. But I had the worst time fighting him. I chalk it up to some incompetence on my part, but I did NOT enjoy this fight mechanically.
It’s as good as any Zelda boss. You pretentious fucks need to fuck back off to Fromsoft games. And I say that as someone who’s favorite developer is Fromsoft. Stay in your lane
Took me a month to beat this boss!!! I miss this game so much. The graphics are just so bad now since we are in 2020. I never got to beat the shadow temple.. Maybe one day I will get back and play again from the beginning!
Buddy don’t play Zelda games ever again if this boss took you a month☠️ like how the hell does this boss take that long to beat? All the bosses in this Zelda game were so freaking easy the mid bosses were harder than the real ones!
It's extremely disappointing how everything about this boss is great, whether it's the design, the music, the atmosphere, the boss room itself... But the fact that it's so easy ruins the fight entirely
This boss sucked. Phase 1 does nothing. and phase 2 it just swims around. This was touted as finally the "ADULT" zelda game dudes could play to feel like grown ups.

This battle and the dragon are just Link channeling his inner Kratos
The atmosphere of this boss fights was phenomenal, even the design of the actual boss itself was good. But the fight was just... not at all matching the mood of the setting.
Always felt like Morpheel’s eye was breaking the 4th wall when it looked at the camera after emerging out of the hole
Imagine if this was in subnautica...
THAT WOULD BE EVEN MORE TERRIFYING THAN THE REAPER LEVIATHAN
OH NO
In the void….
It says something about how easy this boss is that the video is titled as if it's ostensibly an upload of the boss fight, but then the actual boss fight is less than half the video duration. It's too bad, because it's one of THE biggest Zelda bosses, but it goes down so easily.
The animation of getting grabbed by him has the same energy as supernova from final fantasy 7
Zant creeps me out
The dramatic mini cutscenes with the loud music last longer than the fight.
I don't expect hard bosses in 3d Zelda. They look nice though.
Who else thinks morpheel is the best boss in this game
the first part of this boss is sort of underwhelming, however it 100% feels like a oot reference. the 2nd part is way more interesting and even tho it kinda just swims around its so badass that it doesn’t even matter. although i do wish there was stuff trying to hit you so it at least felt more dire
At first I thought morpheel swallowed the water then I realized there was a hole in the wall
I think they should have added a trail of twilight behind him. maybe a damage over time effect.
Should've made him faster, given him a charge attack, water pressure beam attack and a tail whip
This boss legitimately does nothing.
Why does it look more realistic in Gamecube than the remaster? Gamecube looks like he's really underwater, here it looks like he's just floating in the air
At 3:38, it's big mouth scared me.
I meant at 3:27 XD pardon me for the mistake
This boss was actually hard for me.
I hope you’re joking 🙃 if not I feel sorry for your loss 🤣
You know this is my made up name for this sea monster
Kraken-eel
This boss had me fighting demons
my favorite zelda game my favorite boss
The Sarlaac of Hyrule Lake
Morpheel (forbidden fleshlight)
I got eaten a lot while trying to reach the eyeball
would love an MP4 of this boss'es mouth attack and second stage mouth attack, it's sooo squishy, it sounds like when you press a water balloon down but don't pop it. # MildlySatisfying
Quick question for people with thalassophobia.
Does this fight trigger it?
abso-fucking-lutely. i can't even enter the dungeon without looking at someone else doing it in a walkthrough simultaneously.
this is so weird. the first time i fought this boss i didn’t get the bomb fish. i restarted after my first completion and i got the bomb fish
This is what tentalus should have been
What the heck is "Twilit"?
Really wish this fight was more interesting because the first phase is just kind of lame and then the boss just *doesnt* attack you in phase 2
1st phase simply just camp out of range u can Grab an eyeball
the first phase, as short as it is, was more irritating than anything else. alot of poorly timed swings on my end + slow movement through the battle arena made it annoyingly frustrating. but phase two was over in less than a minute
3:26
Ok, he was right in front on you
He opened his mouth to likely attack!
But instead he just said “fuck it” and swam off
What?????
Does anyone know if you can find something in that crater where Morpheel came out in the fight?
It's not where you warp out and I'm curious.
It would’ve been better if the beast actually went for an attack I actually would have enjoyed getting pissed off for a difficult level rather than feeling disappointment on such a good design of a monster
I hate underwater levels.
Probably based on a lamprey.
does BotW or TotK have cool bosses like this? serious question as i have not played either of those games hardly
Not really, cause you dont dive in breath of the wild
Twilight of the collosus
Can't grab the eyeball on Wii
Could've been much worse! An eel squid or octopus!
this boss was surprisingly easy
Seriously
When I was little, I always got turned on by Morpheel. I didn’t know what was happening to me but I started h*mping my pillow until I got an amazing feeling. This was the first time I came, I really felt ashamed and never talked to my parents about it
I like the atmosphere and boss design. But I had the worst time fighting him. I chalk it up to some incompetence on my part, but I did NOT enjoy this fight mechanically.
Fucking hated this temple moving stair mechanic
Does this giant ass beast not attack you at all? Even after all these years beating it I still don't know.
I have such a big problem with the way swimming feels in this game. It's so dumb
phillip
Design of the boss and atmosphere is 10/10. However, the fight is an easy 0/10.
It’s as good as any Zelda boss. You pretentious fucks need to fuck back off to Fromsoft games. And I say that as someone who’s favorite developer is Fromsoft. Stay in your lane
Awesome design, but too easy to beat under 3-4 minutes.
Monster Hunter 3 at its finest.
Morpheel vs. Ceadeus!
Took me a month to beat this boss!!! I miss this game so much. The graphics are just so bad now since we are in 2020. I never got to beat the shadow temple..
Maybe one day I will get back and play again from the beginning!
Excuse me this boss is so fucking easy how did it take you a month
Buddy don’t play Zelda games ever again if this boss took you a month☠️ like how the hell does this boss take that long to beat? All the bosses in this Zelda game were so freaking easy the mid bosses were harder than the real ones!
How to play this game ? Everyone !?!
Can it actually attack you in second phase?
Yes it can
It's extremely disappointing how everything about this boss is great, whether it's the design, the music, the atmosphere, the boss room itself...
But the fact that it's so easy ruins the fight entirely
ITS AS HARD AS ANY ZELDA BOSS. Have you people ever played zelda??? Jesus Christ when have Zelda bosses been hard.
The sound profile has def not aged well. Some of the music sounds like bad midis
My god, what the series could be if they would allow the combat to actually be a challenge.
I found the old one much more exciting and exotic but this just disgrace's me as a Zelda fan
Jacob Workman old one?
randomguy6679 he means morpheel
randomguy6679 I meant barinada
Gg
A gta try hard on a zelda video. Hory shet
This boss sucked. Phase 1 does nothing. and phase 2 it just swims around. This was touted as finally the "ADULT" zelda game dudes could play to feel like grown ups.
This is easily one of the worst bos s in everygame story, not because thé boss is hard, but because you cant barely move underwater and the commands totally suck. Thats one of the reason why I didnt like zelda TP
