    You should listen to them live with a good heavy amp and a nice sub. Impressive, transparent, but also unforgiving with tracks that are recorded with lots of treble. 90 % sounds great, 10 % is piercing your eardrums. That’s the price you pay for these monitors. I don’t think this new version sounds that much better, the first editions are great and can be had for a good deal I guess. Great sound demo by the way, my LS50’s with an Arcam FMJ A39 sound silky smooth and with great depth with this same song.
    Update: now I have the Meta’s. They sound just the way I wanted the old LS50 to sound. More like the LS3/5a. More in balance, less upper mids and highs, great crossover and case.

      @@robk5745 I wonder if he thought they were too bright. I bought a used pair of LS50s online and loved the detail but they were fatiguing for me after about 20 minutes of sub 65db listening. I was not too happy until I bought an external dac - Denafrips Ares II - which smoothed out the harshness to me while keeping the detail that I liked. I use a 150watt amp with them and a small sub but they seemed strained at or above 80db. The thing I was disappointed in was the lack of clarity and separation in the mediums. But the Metamaterial seems to fix that issue and makes them sound as an open baffle, the box virtualy disappears with the annoying coloration, interferences and echos produced by the back waves.

      @@GG-ex5bk I get what you mean the trebles sound bright, harsh and forward, à bit snuffled and metallic the tweeter is made of aluminum. The stiff materials used produce an analitycal sound.
      Unfortunately this new model doesn't change their sound signature, it even amplify the brightness, so on long sessions you'll experience ear fatigue.
      KEF is not the manufacturer to go, If you want a live sound signature of with organic natural and laid back tones for a fun listening.

    I just listened to this track over my system and compared it using headphone to this video. I have LS50s (the first gen), a NAD 356BEE and I streamed to it using an IFI BT receiver. The trumpet sounds very similar (maybe a bit more forward) however on the Meta the bass seems to be under more control. In general more cohesive. I cant say though whether the reason for that is the CD and Amplification which is better than what I have. I tend to think that the IFI bluetooth streamer is the weak link in my system being "way" too polite and laid back. I have a Musical Fidelity Phono stage and the sound which that can create (albeit over LP) is much much much (3x) better than the DAC. Now thinking of upgrading the dac now to something a little more punchy...any suggestions welcome ... :)

    Noticeable lack of low end. Just can't get beyond that to comment on the META - so much of the sound is hidden because the LS50 can't do low frequency it's distracting

    • @FlowithdaGo
      @FlowithdaGo 3 года назад +4

      I've been hifi nerd for nearly 30 years. I've come to the conclusion that a speaker without proper deep bass is not a real hifi speaker. Small speakers on stands doesn't take up less space than floorstanders, which often produces decent low frequency bass. I will never buy small speakers again, unless they have proper bass.

    • @hemantishwaran5741
      @hemantishwaran5741 3 года назад +1

      @@FlowithdaGo You and I agree! If you can't bring the bass then why bother. Floor standing speakers have many advantages, but bookshelf speakers (like you say) are a true form of audiophile enjoyment. There are some bookshelf's that can bring bass to the table. For example the Tannoy Legacy Eaton if you can suck up $5K for a pair. If you like active speakers, then Buchardt A500 look exceptionally promising, but again pricey about $4k. I mention these two as they are my favorite and represent true challenges to the notion that only floor standers can bring the bass. But it's rare...

      The speakers need good matching amps and source to bring these speakers to life. If the amp doesn't have the power to control the bass the sound becomes thin and bright. If you send a poor signal to a LS50 speaker you definitely get an unmusical sound.

    do a blind listening test with less expensive speakers...then you would see if these 1k pieces of crap were worth their price tag...any hifi equipment comparasons should always take place under blind listening test conditions....conceal the equipment from.listener....no brand names tied up with biased hifi mag reviews to get in the way..just the listeners ears and preference make the call....and if after such a dem the listener prefers the much cheaper product..so be it
