  • The Möhne Reservoir is an artificial lake formed by the damming of two rivers, Möhne and Heve, and with its four basins stores as much as 135 million cubic metres of water.
The dam was built between 1908 and 1913 to help control floods, regulate water levels on the Ruhr river downstream, and generate hydropower. Today, the lake is also a tourist attraction.
Möhnesee is a municipality in the district of Soest, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated around the Möhne Reservoir (hence the name).
Möhnesee in located north in the Sauerland region. The Sauerland is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited.

Great video. As a kid I used to sneak into the Bismarke Tower and climb the stairs to the top. At that time the protective roof was not there. 1969-1971

I live there between ages of one and four and like I said don’t remember much but the Dam I do remember I remember looking forward to seeing it when we went back in the 73.. @@pagandoyle6923 I’m not the one you asked, but since they didn’t answer and I happen to live there too, I’m going to reply anyway:
The lake is really beautiful at day as well as at nights. At sunsets it looks the most beautiful, in my opinion. It’s massive, and the documentary really doesn’t do it justice just how big and beautiful that lake is. But anyway, surrounding it is a huge forest, the “Arnsberger Wald.” You can spend an entire day in it and you would have only seen a tiny percentage of what it has to offer. It’s great for mountain biking, if you’re interested, and it is as beautiful as the lake. The forest has a problem with an insect that causes the trees to die though, and sadly many trees are affected. In some areas it’s really noticeable... :/
Surrounding the lake are many restaurants and bars and such. While they’re really expensive, they’re supposed to be really good. However I can’t judge the quality, because I have never eaten there before. There’s a Yachtclub there and that’s pretty much it. Surrounding the lake are dirt or asphalt roads, so you can just take a trip around the lake if you don’t feel like venturing into the forest. :)
If you want to know anything else or you want me to explain something in more detail, just ask :)

@@pagandoyle6923 Did you live directly near the Möhnesee? Well, near the dam there are two small villages, called Günne and Brühningsen. On the sie of the lake itself, there are Möhnesee (the town), Körbecke and some even smaller ones I don't quite know 😂
