If you follow Bill long enough around Katina, he’ll say: “Just like old times, eh, Fox?” Take out 10 enemies without attacking the squadron: “You’ve become quite a pilot.”
My personal favorite level from the game, for obvious reasons. It's a giant furball (pilot lingo for a massive dogfight) and you got both allies and enemies swirling around each other through which you have to weave and pick out enemies to shoot down.
I find this medal easy on normal mode with Aquas the hardest. Followed by Zoness and Sector Z. On expert mode I don't know how I got it as one hit breaks your wing.
The dialogue was nice! It makes me sad to think about how many allied ships I killed.......I had no idea there was secret dialogue if you didn't kill any of them.
Yeah, took me years to pull this one off myself: in fact, I first only discovered it existed once I read the Myamoto interview in the end of one of the strategy guides!
Yea I believe I restarted the mission to do this one. Its actually not too bad you just need to be careful what you shoot and avoid colliding with allies and you should have it. The hatches and core are easy targets to hit without worrying about allies getting in the way. However its impossible to get the Medal in the same battle if you try and do this. lol
I think the mst important thing you gotta remember when shooting in this mission is the fact that you can see a very bright, visible light behind the ships of our allies, while the enemies don`t have any lights on them. So basically don`t shoot too near to the bright light to make sure you don`t shoot any allies. Yes It`s still hard due to so many of them constantly coming between your aim, but it`s not impossible if you have patience. I`m gonna try doing this myself when I do the hard route, but I`m still gonna try to shoot as many enemies as I can.
I played this game extensively as a kid and got a medal on every planet (except sector Z… then a GameShark allowed me to the hard mode where getting kills was sometimes easier) and don’t remember ever hearing this once
Oh snap, I never got this dialogue! Somehow, I always thought the best reward you got from it was just a butt-ton of guys in the air after you finish the level. Guess I never succeeded in not hitting a friendly like I thought I did. Aww.
I got lucky one moment replaying this and. BOY did I notice the difference in dialogue, but no way will I get lucky unless I focus hard enough. That stage was killer on my A button.
That's it? I knew there was something special if you finished without a friendly fire incident, and I remember getting this a couple of times, but I never knew the dialogue was the payoff. I remember something about formation flying being the bonus, so I always figured I must've still accidentally killed a friendly each time.
Ah man as a 6 year old i finally was able to get this medal without killing anyone, i played the game religiously and it felt immensely satisfying to get
I don't know if its just me, but i remember making it without killing any allies and getting a medal at the same time. I remember the same ending cinematic but with the Great Fox behind all the ships. Does anyone else remember this? I haven't found any videos of this.
The 3ds remake is fantastic. I am really skeptical with remakes like that though because the voices were redone and stuff, which really bothers me for some reason(Even though I found out it was the same voice actors, just they are older thus sound different) But it was very well done and Im glad to have purchased it! =)
(7 years late) Visually, the 3DS version is much better, but the redone voice work is far worse. They really should've just cleaned up the older work and brought it over.
@@MrCrunchytime The radio sound effect is SOO ANNOYING though, its like the same whistle sound in a up direction upon openning channel and closing it. Original has a tone change to close channel. Hearing the same *weeeoooweee* over and over is irritating.
@@GamefreakRX Aww man, I thought it would be cool to meet both Bill and Kat at the same time, and see them help Fox and the gain defeat Starwolf in Venom after you cleared both Katina and Zones.
@@chrisbarone515I did that before by hacking in the game and it was honesty funny seeing Bill and katt at the end and getting the real ending. Now that what I called a real ending lol
Tip: Shoot carefully, and us charged attacks. You can't lock on to allies. Also, in case you didn't know, allies have the plasma engines (the fire in the back.) Don't use bombs because they might hit allies even if you're locked on. Regular charged shots won't hit allies because the Invader II Fighters never seem to get that close.
Evan Peskoff Old comment I know, I know, but even if you lock onto enemies crossfire is a risk if a friendly enters the path of the charge or the blast radius of the impact which does splash damage. In real war it'd be forgiven, just like here, but this is what makes this special. It's not something you'd normally see. In ww1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam, hell even Afghanistan, friendly fire is an ever present threat. Check out the video of an A-10 strafing way too close for comfort on a guy filming a strike in Afghanistan. Something like 25meters away with those big guns. Video ends with them hauling ass away from their position because the second plane was coming in right after it.
Boy, WAY back when, I was able to get that ending at least once. Nowadays, I try to do it again on the Virtual Console. This level is totally based on the hit action movie, Independence Day. I liked it when I was younger, but nowadays I think it is seriously lame. This game, however, I will always love.
@@GamefreakRX I'll say. Everytime I played this game, I see the amount of ships behind me and I'm like "Crap. Forgot to save a guy." Either I shot an ally down accidentally or one of the enemy ships got one.
@@stripedrajang3571 While killing enemies and destroying hatches makes the level go faster, eventually the mothership and its core will appear regardless of that. Very tedious that way, though.
One of the hardest missions but worth it when everyone survives cinematic scenes
I accidentally got this once back in the day. I was wondering how the hell I managed it. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
