I emailed SCG and here's what they said! Looks promising. "Our T8 tripod features an 8-step counterbalance system, starting at 2kg on the first step, with 1.1kg increments per step, reaching 9.7kg at the 8th step. In comparison, the Sirui VHS10 has 6 steps, beginning at 0kg, with the first step likely adding 2kg and each subsequent step increasing by 1.6kg, reaching exactly 10kg on the 6th step. Since the T8 has smaller increments between steps, it offers more precise counterbalance adjustments, accommodating a wider variety of camera setups. Our design assumes users are unlikely to max out the head’s weight capacity, prioritizing accommodating more camera setups for easier setup over hitting the max counterbalance. That said, since your camera setup requires more counterbalance, we can increase the counterbalance values for each step to better support your equipment. If this solution works for you, we will implement these changes in the mass-production model of the T8. We might add two more counterbalance settings to the model so that we could have both the fine-tuned counterbalance setting and a higher capacity."
another thing that could be impacting your usage is the extra height on the one rig. The further the center of mass is from the axis of rotation, the heavier it'll feel to the tripod. An extra 2" of height could make the camera feel 3~5 pounds heavier to the tripod head.
My buddies and I were on a shoot yesterday and just talked about the tripod market. I remember when most of the great tripods started at $1000 and up. Great timing on this video!
i have the SCG T8 for a few months now, but with the Pyxis and Z Cam F6 , so much lighter cam's then yours and really happy with it. But 1 major flaw for me, except with the manfrotto style plate that they include, de safety doesn't work !!! and your camera can drop easy if you don't pay extra attention
I've been using a Benro S6pro head for a while, and always had my eye on the iFootage Gazelle for sticks ever since you mentioned you use it. Tripods on the more affordable end are low key getting more and more interesting these days--Smallrig Tribex, Sirui SVS75, YC Onion Pineta Peak--the choice paralysis is nuts lmao. You mentioned there isn't any flex on the SCG even though it's carbon fiber. I've had some people I've worked with on set that say aluminum doesn't flex as much as carbon, yet I find conflicting answers on other sets, and especially online. It's been driving me back and forth--what's your take on the sturdiness of these materials for video work? Thanks for the video, I value your opinion on this matter since you've shared you experience thus far in finding something new for your updated set up. That feedback you got form SCG looks promising 👀
You know you will end up buying a tripod in the Satchler class at some time in your career because once you are used to using proper tripods (as you are) it is difficult to use anything else without feeling a sense of frustration and irritation! I have been working in outside Broadcast for forty years and we use the best gear imaginable but I too am in your situation when it comes to investing in an upgrade to my own new personal tripod because my personal rigs have outgrown my present sticks and head! So I feel your pain, not wanting to fork out a whole lot of of money but silently knowing you should do and eventually will be doing so in the near future !😂👍🏾 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
Great video I think I’ll stick to my YC Onion legs and Sirui fluid head though. Nothing seems to come close for the price imo. Granted I have never tried the Sactler.
Would love this same comparison with the Tribex small rig tripod and fluid head. Perhaps also testing a few fluid heads on it to then determine what the best pair is if the one that comes with it isn't strong enough.
My guess would be even though the camera weights are similar, the bigger camera extends further out from the center, so when tilting down or up, the huge monitor is swinging out far enough and has leverage which is overpowering the counterbalance.
This. It’s a common issue with advertised counterbalance weights with long lens rigs for example. I have issues and would often need to double the advertised CB weight for it to handle it.
I think you can explain the lighter camera performing worse on the SCG because the mass is spread out further away from the centre point. It has additional torque!
I would love to buy the fluid head VHS-10 separately, but it looks like it's not available on its own. Whatever they price it at will be amazing; even for 350, that's a solid head!
Just today got brand new Sirui SQ75 with VHS10 the head makes pretty much annoying friction noise while panning. Read the return policy at the official Sirui store website and doesn't seem really customer friendly. Waiting for the answer from their customer service.
I don't like tripods with spreaders at all. Is it really necessary if you camera setup is up to around that 15lb weight? Literally the same camera and lens setup
0 drag and 0 counterbalance is important to travelling with tripod heads as you probably know, and a very small niche situations where you need to pan and tilt with no friction. I personally wont buy a tripod if I cannot turn the CB and drag off completely for travel.
poor man pays twice....I should have bought an expensive tripod out of the gate....I paid $400 for an Amazon cheap....then I paid $1200 for another tripod and it still gets stuck when I turn it and gives choppy movement😞

Okay. This means that the head I bought is a prototype and just test product. 😂😂

Haha thanks for watching!
Seems like sirui head with SCG legs would be the combo for you.
I hear ya

Choice paralysis is accurate lol

Yeah your setup is pretty clean!
Great video as always. I feel like a better comparison to the Sirui would have been the smallrig ad-pro8
Sure but this what I had and used. I don't often go looking or asking for gear to compare. It just happened both companies asked around the same time.

I'm not sure what you mean. The lighter camera didn't perform worst lol
where did you get that coo mobile cart you have your cameras on? btw great videos
Its from COSTCO! Its called the Koda utility cart
What is that Integrated shoulder pad that you are using with the Mavo? Mid49? Seems like a great alternative to the ARRI CBP system.
my svt75 2.0 is so good, I wonder what you'd think comparing it to.
I would love to buy the fluid head VHS-10 separately, but it looks like it's not available on its own. Whatever they price it at will be amazing; even for 350, that's a solid head!
When did you get the LF? How does it compare?
Late summer. Its great. I have a follow video coming soon
I've been waiting for this comparison. Not every head can lift a camera weighing 10 kg.
🫡
Have you tried the SIRUI SVS75 Rapid System One-Step Height Adjustment Video Tripod?

I hate spreaders too
Damn that track has me groovin.
Musicbed doesn't disappoint
Also seems like the LF has a higher center of gravity because of the base plates👀
The difference might be the length of both cameras, even if they weigh the same the torque changes.
I notice some tripods matter. The one I got is good and simple for a mirrorless camera but nothing in that price range.
Great video bro
Appreciate you!
Maybe the $800 Sirui SVS75 one will have that $1500 completely done with if only this $500 Sirui is this good.
Of the tripods you rent for jobs, which head and legs combo is your favorite? The one you'd buy if money was no object?
Honestly the miller cx8 is awesome
That's insane dude $1500 for a Tripod. Damn
Lol not insane at all haha

Point taken. Haven't been in those situations before. And like I mention I don't travel with a tripod
And just to inform you:) the sirui is now down at 399,-
Yeah it is! I mentioned there's a sale
Sirui has a higher tier that's more heavy duty for $800 head and legs.
poor man pays twice....I should have bought an expensive tripod out of the gate....I paid $400 for an Amazon cheap....then I paid $1200 for another tripod and it still gets stuck when I turn it and gives choppy movement😞
Yikes! It happens to all of us. But things are getting better
Great vid! But you can’t proof that your 6’0🤪
LOL
From images of him next to his crewc I thought he was 6’5”!
