Thanks that’s awesome to hear. This time recovery was a real struggle, even being told that I could never run a marathon again, but I hope this can inspire people to persevere and not give up. In Kipchoge’s words ‘impossible is nothing’. It sometimes might take a lot longer than we would like, but by putting in the work we can reach our goal.
Watching your journey over the last year with the struggle with your knee has been a journey for me as an observer, I can't imagine how it's been for you living it all. To see it work out with a successful run of the London Marathon is great, congrats on finishing! you're an inspiration as always.
Thank you. It has been a journey and I was so happy that my ‘problem knee’ didn’t hurt during or after the race. My other knee was a bit of a concern now, but making it across that finish line was such a confidence boost. Still need to get stronger and work more on being comfortable those longer runs, but I now know for sure I can still do it and just cause somebody said I will never be able to run a marathon again, doesn’t mean that is true.
Great video! This was my first ever marathon and I am still buzzing from it and probably always will do. What a day. This brings back so many amazing memories, thanks for posting!
Yes, second marathon now booked. Was between Berlin or Amsterdam. Went for Amsterdam as my great grandparents were from there and it's a small connection to my heritage. Looking forward to meeting the Dutch people but I draw the line at wearing clogs on race day 😀
Great video! I’m running my first marathon on the 23rd of April and after 5 months of training and pushing myself a bit too hard at times to the point of near injury (🤞🏻) your video reminded me what this race should be all about and why i’m doing it. I’ll just keep repeating to myself: start slower and enjoy it, run your own race. Thank you 🙏
Thanks. Yeah, that way they can spread out the runners at the start quicker, so it’s pretty smart actually. So happy to know I can still run a marathon distance. I finally feel like I can start looking at other races now.
😂😂 Yeah, thanks for being part of my Cheer Squad, it was a real boost seeing you guys on the course. Recovery is going well, slowly starting up again after the weekend with a short run. 🙂
Thanks. Next will be training more so I can more easily run the long distance runs. Look for a race for the spring and train for Chicago and New York for 2023. 👍🏻
Hey Arno - i've just dropped you an email about using this vid on our BBC TV coverage of the London Marathon this year. Would be amazing if you could come back to me when you can! thanks. Love the vid. Phil Hughes
Brilliant :) I might have missed you saying it, but was it the Galloway method? Oh running as a rhino ha ha ha, didnt look comfy at all. Amazing what some people do for charity. Glad your knee was ok and massive well done !!
Thanks. I didn't specifically do the Galloway method, but came down to the same thing. A tough race, but so satisfying. I felt how heavy the rhino suit was on the meet up the day before the race, unbelievable they actually ran a marathon in that.
Great video as always. Two quick questions: 1) what interval timing did you use for run / walk? Was it a 5/2 the whole time? And 2) was it difficult to shift into the walk break early on when there were so many runners around you? Great job and congratulations!
The name of the app is SIT, that stands for Simple Interval Timer, the app is just that, simple and free and does what it needs to. I decided I was going to run my own race and try not to be bothered with what other people’s reaction would be to the walking. After the first 5 minutes I started walking and I expected people to maybe cheer and tell me to keep going or something, but perhaps also because I was filming I just got people smiling as I filmed them running passed me or they were looking at me talking to the camera. I knew I had to have my walk breaks from the start, so I wasn’t going to let anybody keep me from those breaks at the beginning, but I never really felt like I couldn’t take the break at that moment, I had a plan and needed to keep my knees happy, so I took the walking breaks. It actually got a bit funny half way through the race when people would cheer me on to keep running and then my run timer would beep and I’d start running, but at a much faster pace then they would expect so that gave some fun reactions from the crowds sometimes. People in the crowd assume your walking cause you’re tired, not cause it’s your strategy, so seeing me take off and pass other runners was not something they expected. 😄 Are you planning on run/walking a race yourself? I think it helped me get through the race, but would have been better for me if I was a little bit more prepared for the long distance. In the end the walk breaks started hurting my thighs a bit more and it actually felt better to be running. I kept doing the walk breaks though cause I was hoping my knees would still benefit from the breaks.
@@RunArnoRun Makes total sense. Planning my next marathon for the spring and strongly considering the run walk run method this time. When I’ve run in the past all the way through I inevitably start out too fast and the run/walk should help me to control that. Additionally, I’m not a young man anymore and avoiding injury has to be one of my main goals if I want to keep running long term. Truly, thanks for that thoughtful reply. You nailed my one concern when you said how other people react to walking so early but I really have to get over that relatively minor concern. Keep up the fantastic work - you’ve got a fan here in Southern California. Side note - I was the eye doctor who happened to get to chat with you at the WDW marathon this last January. Glad your eye has made a full recovery!
The mic I use is the Smartmike+ it has great sound and really takes care of wind noise even while running. I’ve made a video review on the mic a while ago with some test sound. Awesome run!! Congrats, Arno...you're such an inspiration especially to those of us making an injury comeback. 👍 🏆

Great Job Arno!! Comeback stories are the best so glad you did it.
Yeah, so glad I was able to finish the marathon and didn't damage my knees any more.
Great video! This was my first ever marathon and I am still buzzing from it and probably always will do. What a day. This brings back so many amazing memories, thanks for posting!
Great to hear you enjoyed it an was able to relive the race through my video. Any plans for a second marathon yet?
Yes, second marathon now booked. Was between Berlin or Amsterdam. Went for Amsterdam as my great grandparents were from there and it's a small connection to my heritage. Looking forward to meeting the Dutch people but I draw the line at wearing clogs on race day 😀
Great job!!!! Some people dream of running Boston, but I dream of London! Maybe soon!
Thanks. Did you enter the ballot for next year?
@@RunArnoRun No, the hope is 2024. I need to replenish my race funds after registering for a perfect 22-23 runDisney season.
@@RunningInMakeup wow, yeah I can imagine that, Disney runs are so much fun but they sure are not cheap. 😂
Kris if you are coming to London we are still on for coffee and ice cream. One issue, there’s no Joffries here.😂
@@philmatthews2155 uh oh…no Joffrey’s makes me second guess everything. 🤣

How did your first marathon go? Hope you had an amazing time and took some time to enjoy the race.
Congratulations! What a comeback after injury. I had no idea about those different starting groups coming together on the main course!

@@RunArnoRun excellent! Oh you will love Chicago and NYC as you can see on my race videos from those two epic events. Enjoy your recovery from London.
Absolutely beautiful. Well done!
Thank you very much!

Brilliant way to capture the race. Turns out I started in your wave too 😅

I'm so impressed by the rhino costumes 😆
Yeah, they look awesome, but also look very uncomfortable to run in. 😂
van harte met deze prestatie, maar een rondje Rotterdam blijft ook mooi toch?
Rotterdam is ook nog steeds een mooi rondje, maar een leuk reisje voor een mooie race is altijd welkom. 😀👍🏻
