Hey Tyler. Thank you for the video, however, I think the folks at Microsoft were not happy with your hack! I am running Windows 10 and Word 365. Everything works until you get to the last step - opening the original protected (zip) file and pasting the new settings into the record. Windows will not open the folder because it thinks the file is compressed. Consequently, you can't paste the new settings into that record. If this is what is actually happening, perhaps you would consider working your magic on a new 365 solution? At the very least, consider changing your RUclips video description to reflect which Word versions work (or do not work) with your process. Thanks again. I subscribed!

I had to open the file as a word document and then turn it to a zip as I found it doesn't generate the word folder if you do not run it as a normal file in read only prior.

Do you have to go through the whole process every time or can you use the first "settings" file you created from the old one and paste it into all the new docs?
Go to your files explorer> desktop In the top view tab check "file name extensions" > now edit it making sure you are deleting the ".docx" part of it and renaming it ".zip" after your file name

@@mdzaid5925 I followed the steps exactly like in the video and it worked; I was also surprised. I also found a JavaScript program to unlock an excel spreadsheet with locked formulas. Just need to make sure the developer tab isn't locked; which often isn't.

You need to install "7zip" for the extraction. However, Ms Word 2016 does not have the settings file

How did you open the zipped word file to paste the copied file?
You just double click on it and it opens up in winzip

I’m trying but I can’t convert it to a zip…if I put .zip at the end the name will just change but not the document itself

You need to lock the file from being able to be opened. If it’s only locked so that people can’t edit it then removing the password is pretty easy.
