The first of two mixes created for Pete Tong's Essential Mix. Transmitted on Radio 1 FM. Created by The Future Sound of London. Made at Earthbeat Studios in London 1993. Engineered by Yage. A tracklist released at the time credited the FSOL samples between tracks - many of which ended up on Lifeforms - as simply 'Amorphous Androgynous - Environment'. Here only the known titled tracks are featured. The tracklist also credited a place for 'Hymn To Us' by TransGlobal Underground, which is not present on the transmission (but explains the currently unknown track at 22 minutes). Further on in the tracklist, other missing pieces, The Cauldron by Third Ear Band and Circles by KPM Foundation are also given in that released tracklist.

I saw FSOL 'live' at the Essential Music Festival in Brighton around this time...they were in their studio in London, broadcasting over ISDN to the MainStage. They were on at the same time as the Orb. Incredibly fortunate to be there. They were not just musically forward for this time, they were playing to thousands over the inner-Tron when it was still dial-up for most. Risky, but genius.
Between FSOL, the Orb and a fist full of chems, I can honestly say it was the one show (of dozens I have attended) in which I saw God.

Stanton Warriors essential mixes 2001 and 2004 are also amazing, and similar vibe just with better mixing and a more 4/4 type break beat structure layered throughout, where as there FSOL mixes seem to have no underlying structure or form... i.e. amorphous androgynous and a monstrous psychedelic bubble those mixes are also top and similar to the essential mixes... and FSOL's 'A COntrolled VIsta' mix tapes that are more recent, (came out a year or 2 ago), recommend giving all these a listen.
