He looked comfortable, confident, and was quick on his decisions. He was more than quick on his feet.
His speed was insane!!! That kind of speed stresses the defense, and he didn’t hesitate to tuck and run. I’m honestly surprised he’s not talked about more.

I think that's a direct result of the Georgia game two seasons ago. After that game Dan said that they just weren't prepared enough physically, alluding to the fact that they didn't get enough game speed reps under their belt. Ever since then he's been very vocal about getting as many live reps as humanly possible each week. On one hand you don't want to risk injuries, but on the other hand you need to be prepared for what's coming.

I agree, he wanted a hard nosed football program, and he was a good recruiter. He wanted a physical team and he wanted to go away from finesse. I loved his concept and his vision.
With that said, he wasn’t a good X’s and O’s kind of coach. He struggled with in-game decisions, and I can’t say he was good at player development. He depended on high recruiting talent in order to barely win over teams he should’ve blown out.
Lanning? When Nick Saban was wanting to promote him to DC, but Kirby Smart already got him for his DC at Georgia. The fact they trusted him and his abilities to coach National Title caliber teams is all that needs to be said.
Lanning is building a Title contending program at Oregon. The defense is getting better with every year, and that’s what it takes to win the big one.
