Got it working for me in 2023. Thanks for the concise walk through. Cheers.
I just watched a 30min walkthrough in another video and had issues...found yours and was up in 10min. Well done!
Perfect walk through. Short, sweet and accurate. Thank you!
Tried several other guides for this setup and all got locked up at the shell prompt because secure boot was enabled. That simple thing caused waste of half a day in frustration. Your tutorial covered every contingency and got HAS going on first try. Epic.
Great job! You covered the secure boot issue that the larger youtubers acted like is not a thing
jeez it took me like 60+ minutes and bunch of googling because I followed other tutorials
this one was the correct one....and I found it after installation
Zero fluff, paced enough that I didn't need to pause, good job mate!
I apparently needed this whole tutorial just to remind myself that I didn't extract the qcow from the archive! :(
I didn't set the right BIOS and Machine type :(
Most install guides are half-assed crap, but your guide 100% helped me to install Home Assistant with no problems. That almost never happens with RUclips guides. Thank you so much for this excellent guide on how to install Home Assistant on Proxmox. I truly think that this is the best guide out there.
Finally i have installed HA. I tried multiple other tutorials unsuccessfully but yours was flawless. thank you! :)
FINALLY I found a vídeo that REALLY explain (and easy to follow) how to install HA on Proxmox. Thank you VERY MUCH!!!!
Hey, thank you for this! Very straightforward! Saved me a lot of headache
Thank you for this. There are several things you show that others skip over. Boot order, and secure boot. I also had my VM turned off in bios that caused an error. but got that figured out. Now to auto mate my one device 🤣
finally after 3 days it runs. thanks a million this is the best explanation I've seen in a long time, but I can hardly speak english xd
Thanks for this. Especially the disk setup part was very handy for me. Will have a look to your other videos about Home Assistent.
Keep up the good work!
straight up awesome tutorial.
Thank you for a brilliant walk through - worked perfectly for me.
damn straight to the point and works perfectly for me, best tutorial ive seen so far
Thanks for the explication, worked first time.
Excellent video! Great process with enough detail for success and succinct. Thank you for the instructions!
Thank you so much for thsi short and perfect tutorial !!
This helped so much for my first install... thank you!
Thank you! Great tutorial!
Be care people to change number of virtual machine and version of HAOS
this must be the best tutorial on youtube. no nonsense and i only had to pause for the upload of the file.
Thank you! 10 minutes gold!!!
You're welcome!
Great, thanks for this tutorial, works like a charm
Great vid! Was stuck on the shell screen. This resolved this. Many thanks..
This video is lifesaver, thank you so much!
All went well, got to the ha> in the console, but when trying IP:8123 in a browser, a bunch of errors popup sayimg error installing HA. Same errors yesterday using another video. One difference for me, instead of local-lvm, I chose my NVMe drive. Tried local-lvm. Failed. Internet issues I have to overcome. Even with my failures and being a newbie, excellent video. 😂 I'M the idiot. I had network access control turned on.😮😂😊 Works perfect and chose my NVMe drive to boot. Excellent instructions!
Straight to the point! Thanks! :D
It's really a great job! Works for me. Thank you.
Work for me in my homelab in 2024. Thanks A lot!
thanks... this tutorial still works on 2024
Thanks for this, I had the issue where I needed to disable secure boot. I didn't know until your video showed me, that id wasted time deleting and re-installing several times trying to get round it.
Thank you Sir, saved me a 10 hours and now you have new follower. Ajax Online
Goated for this walkthrough!
Well done, very intuitive, Thank you!!!
This is perfection!
Installed Home Assistant release 9.4 without problems, thank you very much. Not so lucky with 9.5, but I didn't insist too much into the problem, got always stuck in the shell even after uncheck the security option. Installed 9.4 and updated to 9.5 using the Web GUI.
great tutorial, thank you!
Really thanks for this great job! I was able to configure it with -1 difficult! Thanks
Great walk-through!!
Fantastic guide! Thanks!
Thank you. Great tutorial.
super smooth, thanks !
Simply Awesome !
Thnx for the video, it was super helpful.
Thank you! Don't think I could figure all that out.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks!!! Very good Job......
TY for this, but I have a question regarding installation to a different drive. If I have this command: "qm importdisk 102 /root/haos_ova-10.2.qcow2 local-lvm --format qcow2", would I just change local-lvm for the name of my other drive as listed in the pve and then just put that drive as the boot?
thanks for the video!
Great job thx you
i wish i could like this more than once
Thanks best advice :)))
thank you that was very helpful =)
Thank you buddy!
Thank You !!
great video, thx
Great job well done
This was very helpful, thank you!
спасибо, помогло!
Great Tutorial
Thank you!
I followed your tutorial but couldn't get it to work. Watched a couple other ones and they didn't have the Pre-Enroll keys option checked off under System when setting up the VM. This gets rid of the secure boot altogether and was the part that was tripping me up.
Merci !!!
Hi I greatly apreciated your work solved boot issues for me, is the any reason not to tick the guest agent as it adds info to the proxmox summary, Thank you
i am trying to install the Bluetooth integration and i am getting the error: “Retrying setup: Failed to start Bluetooth: adapter ‘hci0’ not found” help?
Wait, how did you get it onto proxmox? Where did you put it in proxmox? Can I do that with windows 7 command prompt? Or better yet proxmox gui?
Edit: OK there is a portable version so I downloaded that.
Tip: on the part for the shell command if you start to type the filename press tab and it'll autofill the rest then just finish the command.
After fowoling all steps (all settings exactly same) when i Start VM I receive this message in proxmox 8.1.3: QEMU exited with code 1. Any tips how to resolve it?
Thanks. I wachted a lot of videos, but no one explained the secure boot thing.
how would I extend the disk to 64gb for example?
im getting the an error: Error returned from Supervisor: System is not ready with state: setup.
ive tried to type banner, but the same result comes after a minute, ive tried supervisor repair, but i imitiatly get this error. im stuck with no webgui and no homeassistant
How can I expand the disk from 32GB in size?
thx mate
on the terminal command step, you can use tab to autocomplete. mine autocompleted the entire command basically

Hi, this sounds like an issue with Secure Boot. It doesn't seem to be fully implemented in Proxmox VE yet, causing problems for some UEFI boot images. For a fix/workaround for this issue, please see the following link - jhartman.pl/2021/11/08/proxmox-7-cant-boot-to-uefi-home-assistant-and-other-uefi-images/
Help, please?! I keep getting the startup.nsh error, even after I have followed the additional steps where I need to adjust Secure Boot in the BIOS/UEFI. Why would this still occur, and any idea on how to remedy?
Thanks a ton!
What PC or motherboard are you running on?
@@SmartHomeAddict I am also getting this with secure boot disabled. My PC is an HP Z4G4.
It looks no different than prior to the change in secure boot.
@@SmartHomeAddict After looking everything over again it seems I still had the original HardDisk attached. I detached it again and sorted the boot order again and was able to boot successfully. Thank you for this great tutorial.
I keep having this error : * TASK ERROR: KVM virtualisation configured, but not available. Either disable in VM configuration or enable in BIOS.*
You either need to enable virtualisation in the BIOS, or alternatively for that specific VM go to options, KVM Hardware Virtualization and disable it. The second option will however cause performance issues, it's always recommended to enable the feature in the BIOS if you can.
after running the command i'm getting an error 400 too many arguments

are add-ons available ?
Very clear and precise video! But why did you pronounce escape key as esc haha.
Great tutorial. I hjave been using HomeAssistant on Proxmox for over a year now and much prefer it to a Rasp Pi install. The one problem I have is that I specified 32G for the VM which is really too small for my growing installation. How do I go about increasing the disk size? Proxmox is running on a 120G ssd so I should be able to allocate more disk space to the VM, I just don't know how to.
There are a few ways to do this. The easiest and safest way is to probably create another partition with the 'spare' space and use this to store the VMs or other data.
Resizing the boot partition is a little more involved. Probably the best way is to use a partition manager, such as GParted or similar free/open source partition manager tool. Alternatively, the instructions at forum.proxmox.com/threads/increase-partition-size-for-boot-drive.88682/ give more information on how to do it from the command line.
@@SmartHomeAddict thanks!
I need to transfer my HA from VMWare to Proxmox but it kept failing. I came here to setup a new VM with the hopes that I could transfer the config as a backup. However watching this video I realized the missing piece.... I needed to update the Machine Type to "q35", the BIOS to "OVMF (UEFI)" and I needed to disable secure boot.
I tried this too, but in my case was trying from unraid vm to fresh install on proxmox vm, it didn't work, kept saying to upload an ha backup .tar file, I was it just didn't like it.
The initialization on took 2-3 seconds on my Dual Xeon Platinum 9282 processors with 192 Gb of RAM an 0.5 Pb of Storage.
系统严重错误,无法使用supervisor
It would be easier to use the wget command
note if the original disk fills up the default 32gb it will freeze in proxmox and you will lose pretty much everything, reproduced 3 times. also note home assistant is trash
After install on Preparing Home Assistant give this error?
supervisor.jobs] 'Updater.fetch_data' blocked from execution, no supervisor internet connection
WARNING (MainThread) [supervisor.homeassistant.core] Error on Home Assistant installation. Retry in 30sec
Is the IP address for the HA VM in Proxmox allowed to connect to the internet? You may need to 'bridge' this with the Host IP address.
@@SmartHomeAddict Thanks for reply. How to do this "'bridge'' with Host IP?
THANK YOU
just installed proxmox so probably doing something wrong but : root@pve:~# ls
haos_ova-10.2.qcow2
root@pve:~# qm importdisk 101 /root/haos_ova-10.2.qcow2 local-Ivm --format qcow2
Configuration file 'nodes/pve/qemu-server/101.conf' does not exist
root@pve:~#
you have to enter correct node id from the datacenter tree. in my case on the new proxmox installation the id was "100"
