The tops are for a 986/987 Boxster. The reason the top is wider than the opening is so that you don't have to add fiberglass to the width which can weaken the structure. It is easier to take away width than add, which doesn't weaken the top. Hopefully that answered your question.
God I hate the stock lines of these cars. the front is fine but the trunk looks like it's trying to be the front and with the roof up it changes from a Porsche to a Beatle.

So you need to buy a Cayman that was built where? So you don't have to add the fiberglass? 10mm is significant
