- Through sharp and hard-hitting animation rooted in a youth pop cultural aesthetic, and by using celebrity narrators Grammy Award winning artist John Legend, Glee's Darren Criss, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and R&B singer, Bridget Kelly - the video speaks directly to millennials' sense of what is exciting, important and cool. By doing so, the video engages them in a discussion about America's voting history and inspires them to register to vote.

My teacher made us watch this today when I saw Darren I filped 😂
Isabella Rendon SAME LIKE I ALMOST SCREAMED LMAO
Me too!
Me too!!
Your vote doesn't necessarily count. Too bad they don't go any further back than America. I want to know when voting REALLY started. Not in Greece. It has to be before that. I plan to abstain from voting for the time being. I think it's a sham.
Ah yes, the public schools have become a center for left-wing indoctrination I see. The truth is much more complicated and nuanced than the narrative they try to push here. Don't believe everything your teachers tell you about politics and economics. They have a bias. Do your own research.
ew theyre forcing us to watch this perez hilton is gross
"I'm legal." "Oh, so you can vote? We should vote together some time."
Yes, please!
As a US citizen, you can say what you want here, that's one of our rights in a democratic country.
2:57 that voice crack
It was very minor... And it's pretty common for some people to have those little spikes every now and then when they're talking, specially her, who talks in a higher pitch and has a natural rasp to her voice. That wasn't a voice crack, it was just a vocal quirk
What I will never understand is why so many people think The US is a Democracy.
@HandicapGamerz Because it is one
What would it take for you to vote?
Me: IDK, a klondike bar?
Any form of gift or payment in exchange for voting is an illegal form of vote harvesting, which amounts to voter fraud.
This is great and amazing. How come I am just seeing this for the first time in 2022 since it was released in 2012?
What would it take for me to vote? Darren Criss serenading me with an original tune personalized with my name and maybe a proposal.
I'll do anything Darren tells me to do
I should email this to my Government teacher from my Senior year of HS. He didn't really touch base with some of these important things, and when he did he didn't really make a good point of what they meant. This video is swift, but still surprisingly thorough.
Also I wouldn't have known this existed if it weren't for Darren
This is an AMAZINGLY well done video. Animation, history, narration, all brilliant. Canada, make a version of this please.
Hello from 2020 one day before the election
Darren's part is so chilling because he speaks so softly and deeply....
CERTAIN 17 YEAR OLDS ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE IN PRIMARIES IN 16 STATES IN THE USA. By studying the election laws we can get more people voting and we can have a greater influence on the election. In order to vote in the November 2018 general election, you have to be 18 years old. But then you are eligible to vote in the corresponding spring primary of 2018. When you vote in the spring primary you will be 17 years old, and you will have to know these laws so that you can REGISTER TO VOTE, for the important spring primary. Here is a list of the only states right now that allow 17 year olds to vote in primaries in 2018; Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Vermont, West Virginia, and Virginia. People living in these states should talk to their friends and neighbors about these liberal voting laws. For more information, go to google. Let's look forward to the important 2018 elections. Let's everyone vote in 2018!
It is now 2019. In the 2020 primary elections, 25 states now have 17 year olds voting in their primary elections. WOW, 25 states. Each year more states are changing their laws to allow some of their older 17 year olds to vote in their primary elections. To get a complete list of the 25 states, go to Google and google in "17 year olds voting in the USA." In 2020, thousands of seniors in high school will have the opportunity to vote in their primary elections. LET'S EVERYONE VOTE IN 2020.
What a simplistic, dumbed-down lesson on voting.
This was a good idea. When Darren Criss talks, I listen.
I'm not even american, but I find this video pretty awesome. People should realize how important it is to vote!
I'm from New Zealand and am not even allowed to vote cause I'm too young, but this was a really really good idea. Everyone loves Darren Criss and will listen to anything he says.
What would it take for me to vote? Darren. At my house. Telling me to. Then giving me some redvines and hanging out. ;)
Darren makes my heart go whee....like super whee!
The sad thing about this is that all the information presented in this video is stuff everyone in the US is taught all throughout middle school and high school and yet there are so many people that are unaware of this history or they choose to ignore it. People complain all the time about the government but they don't try to do what they can to help by voting.
I think Darren Criss was a great choice for this ad. It's more likely to reach all of those ignorant people in my age group.
In my country it's illegal not to vote. You can vote NOTA, but if you don't go to vote you get in trouble when you like want to get out of the country or stuff like that where you have to have all your stuff in order. And I think you get a fine.
This is a simple but accurate history lesson on voting rights in the USA, and one that young people can relate to. It's great! Saying it's "liberal" I think means that it is an "educated" look at reasons that may compel young people to register and vote. Yes!
omg me too i swear when i heard darren's voice i was clapping and smilling like a crazy person
It's funny because almost everyone is here because of Darren. The things that boy can do
Darren: So what would it take for you to vote?
Me: You.
I got to this video because of Darren, but the message is the most important thing, so I'm glad I got to see it, regardless of his involvement. It's a really cool video for an important agenda.
Not even American, but watching this anyway for Darren Criss :)
I came here to see Darren Criss, but this is a really powerful video. No, I'm not American - but looking at those campaigning for this year's election, it REALLY IS SO IMPORTANT that those who ARE do exercise their right to vote, else the rights discussed in this video may just be depleted.
Darren: So what would it take for YOU to vote?
me: Will you be there, Darren?? Cause that's all it would take.
Darren!! thanks to you I just learned some history!
No they aren't saying that it is fully a bad thing to own a gun, they are saying that you have the right to vote on how relaxed gun laws can be and how access to weaponry that has a greater fire power (such as an M16) is easier than it should be. They are saying that the young people of America should vote so as to ensure that the country is a better place, a safer place, for everyone.
I wish I could like this more than once because it's really well made AND important.
And yes, it has Darren Freakin' Criss, always a plus ;-)
This video is still very relevant.
I love how ALL the comments are for Darren.
DARREN FOR PRESIDENT!!
How to get people TO vote - bring a shirtless Darren Criss to the polls.
I started to watch because of Darren. But this video was way more interesting than I though it would be. I really like it. I'm not even an American and I'm not even 18.
But still, this video is more significant than I though it would be.
Just great, I really like it
I think this is a very good way to get young people to vote(:: And just seeing Darren in it makes it a whole lot more awesome!
just like on American Idol you're vote does matter!
I came here to watch Darren, but wow... what a powerful video.
Everyone should share this with their followers on Facebook and twitter. We are all going to be in big trouble if the wrong people get in power. Re-tweet this out and also tell them to follow @DarrenCriss on twitter. Let show the world our Democracy does work. Especially when we get involved.
Darren LET ME 'VOTE' WITH YOU!!!
Oh God all the Darren and voting jokes!!
Just turned 18 Darren. Lets vote! ;)
Dear Darren Criss, I will vow to vote in every single election...once you run for president...
I like how Darren gestured towards the pro pot side :)
I'm turning 18 in July and I honestly can't wait to vote! :)
This guy be looking like human frankenstein
*giggle snort* Darren... voting... heehee
I know you are watching this just because darren is perfect
If Darren taught all my history classes in high school.... *inappropriate thoughts*
What would it take for me to vote? mmm lets see, Darren, I think we'd have to discuss this over dinner.
great , watching here
Darren is killing me and honestly I'm.just here because of him. And them I really like the video (most of Darren) and I'm not even american !
I found this video because of Darren but I realise that this video is not about Darren. It is about Americans not using their rights to vote. I'm not American but I know that when I'm old enough in my country, I'm going to vote. This video makes good points even if you're not American. This is about the right to vote. Not Darren.
This was fantastic! Since this is the first election in which I will be allowed to vote, I think I may flex that under used muscle...
And can I just say the very ironic thing that I know so many people have and are still going to point out?
DARREN, LET'S GO VOTE TOGETHER (:
In Australia, voting is compulsory and in the last election at least 97% of the country voted. And we ended up with a hung parliament, which meant no one won! YAY! We sure got the government we deserve. HOWEVER, because we actually participated, we have the right to call out our leaders when they fail to deliver, and our voices DO lead to change. If you don't exercise your basic human right to vote, then why would your leaders bother to listen to you at any other time?
Love how this video is about the right to vote, but it's turned into just another blissful excuse to watch Darren Criss ;)
for me to vote i would need glee to be on everyday.. and starship to come on my tv.. and for starkid to have their own channel... o yea and for me to be alot older to vote :)
You left out the Electoral College and how that works with voting. This video has good production value but seems to emphasize that we have a simple popular vote system.
I'm proud to say I was part of that 18-29 year old's at 2:38! :)
What would it take for me to vote...? Not getting a guaranteed jury duty notice and then getting fired for missing work.
Ok now I really want to vote
Honestly, I'm just here to see Darren.
Answer: proportional representation or a ranked voting method. Nothing else will end the 2 party system.
Or abolish parties. But then that might fall under violation of the first amendment.
Steve Spears Agreed! Do you donate to www.fairvote.org?
Yeah, I'm here because of Darren... but the first guy to talk is the actor that plays Hell Boy is he not?
I think of voting as a matter of course, but I realize that that is not the case for everyone. But I still don't understand how someone can just pass up one of their main rights. Think of all the people in the world who don't get a say in how their lives and their community is going to be run in the future.
Darren loves VOTING.
i would so take history if darren was the teacher..
everyone needs to watch this.
Well, we don't decide the laws, congress does. We just pick the president of a political party to sign or veto a bill that had to be passed through both legislative branches after being checked by the judicial branch to see if it is m'kay or not m'kay. The only thing the people have say in when it comes to law passing is if we think of the bill.
Loser Bro Uh - we pick that Member of Congress too. We pick our own Representative in the House and our two Senators. And, uh, let's not forget the thousands of laws passed by state government. Yup, we vote for dozens of important offices at the state level: governor, secretary, treasurer. State Assembly, State Senate... then county offices, then municipal/local offices. We actually decide quite a bit.
this is the History of Voting in the US which is way more limited than the History of Voting. United States, you are not the world.
LETS GO VOTE TOGETHER!
how to get people interested in voting - bring darren criss into the picture ;)
darren was enough to make me want to vote.
if i was 18.
or american.
I didn't say it was! If I was old enough to vote, I'd vote for it to be legal, too! It'd solve a lot of problems... And as for Darren voting to legalize it, I see his point. And it kind of sounded like in this video that he was implying it wasn't a good thing... Maybe, maybe not.
it's a shame I'm not 18 yet and can't vote with Darren~
Darren wears those shoes all the time!! :)
The video is interesting, but it won't convince people to vote because people who don't vote usually are convinced that whoever they vote for, it's all going to be the same. I don't think the history of voting will make them care.
It is true unless they dont vote for Bernie
I got forced to watch this since google and Siri can’t find me some answers
to live democracy we must first know our history, para vivir la democracia primero tenemos que conocer nuestra historia ...
What would it take for me to vote? I would if I could vote with Darren.
17 YEAR OLDS CAN VOTE IN THE USA. It should be noted that in certain states, and in certain primaries and caucuses, some of the older 17 year olds can vote right now. In a general election, like on November 8th, you must be 18 years old before Nov 8th to vote. However, 15 states allow 17 year olds to vote in primaries and caucuses. If you are 18 before The general election, you have a right to vote in the general election AND ALSO in the primary or caucuses that are linked to that general election. In the spring primaries of 2016, thousands of 17 year olds voted. There is a world wide youth suffrage movement trying to get younger people voting. In Brazil, Argentina and Austria you can vote at the age of 16! Let's get everyone registered to vote. THEN LET'S EVERYONE VOTE IN NOVEMBER!
So 17 year olds can participate in political bullshit? How about ending political bullshit to begin with?
John Legend AND Darren, enough said!
Apparently Darren Criss is what it takes to get me to vote...
if darren would talk more about voting, more people would do it ;)
What will it take me to vote? Darren, is what it will take me to vote(:
Agreed. It shouldn't be an issue to vote on, it shouldn't even be an issue. It should just be possible for all people to marry anyone they choose!! XD
Why didn't they show me this when I took government? Darren would've definitely been enough for me to pay attention..
Well, I still wonder how I could use this video in class with such a camp host.
I want to vote and I'm not even from America
voting with darren doesn't sound too bad
if you know what I mean
Maybe they aren't voting because they know the electoral college ensures that their votes don't actually matter. If you live in a solid blue or solid red state, it doesn't matter what you vote, and the candidates don't care what you think. Your electoral vote is pre-determined and the candidates don't even bother campaigning in your state.
I wish we had as much celebrity support for electoral reform as we have for "get out the vote".
im here because i follow darren criss on twitter i would do anything that darren criss told me to do i would even jump off a bridge
that person was talking about him or herself. not darren
AMAZING! Never have I ever had the urge to vote now! :D
Great video -- message, animation, celebrities are all wonderful. How about captioning it, though? It's easy to do -- just upload the transcript of what's spoken, and RUclips synchronizes it.
DARREN!!! WE CAN VOTE TOGETHER!!!! :)
The facts about the Superbowl and Facebook are slighted. You don't have to be over 18, or a US citizen even, to watch the Superbowl.
"and what possessions should be outlawed.." besides firearms that the SCOTUS has ruled in Heller vs DC are a right to own given reasonable restrictions, exactly what possessions should be "outlawed"? Because, you know, it showed bad evil full auto rifle as an example.
