    Jason, thank you so much for posting this, wouldn't have got one without this video! Such a cool add on. For anyone considering one, here are a couple tips that may help:
    a. The wire that goes through the firewall is relatively delicate (4 tiny wires inside) - be very careful pulling/pushing this through: you're in trouble if you break a wire - whole infotainment display WON'T work! Same if you unplug the camera. The extra grommet hole can certainly be used but recommend cutting the nipple inside the cab - just pull with some pliers and slice it off. Also consider gently slicing the grommet hole with a small knife - just a little, maybe 1/4". Will retain its shape but way easier to get the dongle through. Don't force the wires.
    b. tightening the camera nut is a huge pain. Test fit the nut on the camera before trying to install - mine was partially cross threaded from factory. It is pretty much mandatory to remove the upper portion of the grill like Jason did - be very careful if you've never done this before. You have to remove the 6 or so plastic fasteners and 1 bolt. But what you can't see are about 6 interlocking tabs that hold the bottom part of the upper grill to the top part of the lower grill/bumper. You'll need to get a very small flat screwdriver and separate the tabs one by one. You have to pull the upper grill FORWARD to the front to release it. DO NOT PULL IT UP like many videos show. You might get lucky and have the tabs self separate but likely you'll break one/some - ask me how i know. With the upper grill removed, the nut can be accessed.
    c. consider some automotive cloth tape over all connectors/wires in the cab, zip ties have a tendency to rattle.

    So it did not interfered with your pre-collision/radar system? Did you test drive and check your radar/pre-collision sensor? I've seen other youtube video where they installed the camera on the side of the sensor. I'm not liking it not on the center. LOL. Thanks. Great job!

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  Год назад

      No issues with the placement. Sometimes the camera itself is glitchy when it’s very cold (or hot) outside. Radar, pre collision, adaptive cruise all work as normal. But only do what you’re comfortable with.

    Your video is the only one that doesn’t push the rca into the cab. After watching all the others I was scrambling to find out way they were doing that. It just doesn’t make sense because that rca I’d for inside the cabin. Thank you for confirming that.

    Hey Jason, I went to order this kit from Cali Raised for my 2018 4Runner Limited. Your discount code isn't working. I presume it must have expired and wanted to let you know in case you can get it renewed. I'm not handy and don't have the tools it takes to do this, but there's a car audio shop near me that installs aftermarket backup cameras and navigation systems that will do a professional job with this. In my research before buying the 4Runner I'd seen one of the newer off road models that had a front bumper camera. It looks like an essential item for off roading, particularly if you're going to be driving on your own without a passenger who can get out and be a spotter when there are obstacles. And as you say, it's also good for everyday driving and parking.
    I'll wait until later in the day or tomorrow to order this from Cali Raised in case you see this and are able to renew the discount code.

    This video got me excited! However I found that it is not compatible with 4Runners with a 3d Camera. The 3d camera system already has a camera placed on the front bumper. Too bad there isn't a way to utilise it as a front facing off road camera and not just for 3d (bird's eye view) purposes.
