    Kev, early this year I made my very first pond, inspired in part by you. It's only about 8 ft long, 6ft wide and around 2•5 ft deep. I used a good liner and very good underlay in its construction. I also have a sand and gravel substrate plus boulders and lots of pond weed and potted plants. I only run a very small pond pump to give water movement and aeration by having a piece of hose protude the surface and splash straight back in. No filter at all. The pond is its own filter. I have 16 goldfish ( mixed varieties and colours, and my readings are spot on ! Zero ammonia, nitrite and NITRATE !!! Beautifully clear water straight to the bottom. Only thing is, I'm already thinking of making it bigger 😄

    Amazing video, as always. Thank you. Would you recommend a Jebao or an Hygger pump for a 2000L bog filter ? In term of quality and quietness.

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  18 дней назад +1

      I actually think they are the same thing. Look at the specs both use same power to deliver the same flow of water. Both are DC low volt and should be quiet.

    Hi Kev, loving all your content!
    I'm in South Australia, do you have any experience with installing a grid/under-gravel system into an above ground pond? I had an aquarium with an under-gravel filter years ago and replicating that seems plausible, depending on the availability of grid materials.

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  10 месяцев назад +1

      Kinda, I haven’t done one where it’s the only filter but as a supplementary filter. Next weeks video I create a false bottom using some slotted drainage pipe and old aquaculture media. I haven’t connected an airstone to it at this stage but I could. It’s an above ground concrete stock tank.

    Im currently now building a patio pond in a huge pot. I thought you HAVE to have a filter, like your bog filter over a wine barrel. I didn't know you could have healthy fish in a pot with no pump or filtration!
    That's great as my pond uses a 15000 LPH pump that has pushed my electricity bill high so hoping to save on the patio pond!

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  10 месяцев назад +1

      You still have a filter it’s just the pond itself and remember that your fish load needs to be small. I have a video on a no pump barrel, with updates.

    I have a baby bath tub size cement pond with rocks and pebbles for chickens to drink water and little birds to drink and bathe. I have a solar pump, but it doesn’t seem strong enough and it’s getting calcium buildup. Do you have any suggestions on how to keep this fresh and good for the birds?

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  3 месяца назад +1

      Hypothetically I think you could do a small bog filter system, but you’d need a pump that runs continuously.

    Hi Kev, thanks for all the videos and links. We are inspired! I recently purchased the PDF so getting ready to order liner, rocks etc from suppliers. Starting off small with a 4m x 2m x 0.75m (there's always the backyard if we want to go bigger on the next one).
    Regarding the Jebao pump you have recommended via link to the US site, how can I power it here in Aus? (I am assuming they will ship with a US socket).
    Cheers, Adam

    Morning chap, we just built a 50x30 oval shaped natural pond on our farm with no liner, our bog filter is just over 1000lt and a 3000gal pump takes 12min to fill it so i think were close :), the confusing part is this pond is 3ft at one end 6ft at the other and i calculate 96000 lt, so the bog has the 3000lt pump going and we have a 5000gal running the waterfall, do i need to add more pumps or this pond will not keep up at 8000gal (30,000)lt per hr ?

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  9 месяцев назад

      Hey buddy. Seems you’ve got a few issues. Bog is undersized and the pond isn’t lined. I always tell people I wouldn’t waste my money on a bog filter for an unlined pond. I’d love to be proven wrong though. Let us know in a year or so if it was successful. Bog should be minimum 10% of the ponds volume (or surface area). Then once you know the volume of the bog multiply it by 6 and that’s the pump volume.

      @@Ozponds quick update, so far very clear, can see almost the bottom at the deep end, I turned the waterfall into 20m of river to add more pebbles and plants, also raised the top of the bog to get about 30cm of extra filtration

    Possibly a stupid question: I'm digging my 2nd pond. It will be a 'wildlife pond' but with no introduced fish. Only whatever creatures show up. It will be small, maybe 2 metres long x 1.4 metre wide x .6m deep. This part I am okay with. However, the grassy area has a natural slope and I wanted to run a small stream/waterfall down into the pond, even if it's only a trickle. Is there any way to do this without a pump? eg could I just put in a system to collect rainwater and let it trickle down by gravity? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a low voltage pump. I assume also that there are no solar pumps which will redistribute water like this

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  4 месяца назад

      I made a small solar system with pond and stream you might want to check it out. Very happy with it except the cheap pump died. I replaced it.

    @3:10 "..these ponds have no fish, so the nitrogen levels are quite low..."
    Don't assume that. The main source of nitrogen from animals is in the form of urea, which isn't only in urine. It's also in sweat- all of us, have a layer of it on our bodies at all times. Any time a person gets into a swim pond, they're introducing urea nitrogen from their skin.
    Any animals in a pond, are going to introduce nitrogen. That includes human animals.
