Escanor said that he is the pinnacle of all clans because not only of his pride, but also because at noon he’s power rises to the same level as the demon king, it lasts for only one minute, but at that time he can’t go near other people because his power level is so high his aura just melts and burns anyone and anything he comes near. And at night he becomes weak with a 180 degree turned personality.
Apparently, he got his Sin for committing disrespect towards the King. Like he refused to kneel in front of the King in his arrogance and also refused to admit his mistakes/crimes. At that time, he saved several towns and villages from monsters, but due to his overwhelming power and his inability to hold back his strength at that time, people were more scared of him than the monsters he defeated for them. Holy knights were sent to apprehend him, but he beat the crap out of all of them. So he was charged with terrorising and destroying many villages and towns, gravely injuring the Holy Knights who tried to restrain him and for disrespecting the king as well. But still, true to the Sin that he represents, he is haughty and arrogant as fuck. The best thing is, he totally believes in it
