I remember years ago when I first got into the hobby, I was in the store flipping through the index astartes books to pick my chapter. I chose raven guard, because I couldn’t paint for crap. Today I still proudly represent the XIX legion, and I still can’t paint
Ah, yes. My process of elimination came in steps. 1) I didn’t want to play Ultramarines. 2) Take off all the flashier chapters. White Scars, Space Wolves, Imperial Fists, Blood Angels and Salamanders. 3) It all comes down to Dark Angels (another one of my favourite chapters), Iron Hands and Raven Guard. I grew up playing stealth games, so guess which one I picked.
I'd argue the Beakie helmet gives the Raven Guard a lot less readable expression than if they had the standard firstborn Vox Grill and that really adds to the terror of having to face them in combat. Instead of a berserker rage that bubbles to the surface and explodes violently, the Raven Guard are all about measured ill intent and tranquil fury, which the Beakie helmet would achieve perfectly.
Some good tip, thanks. I have a homebrew chapter called the Shanobi Ravens, which contains Raven guard & Dark angel Ravenwing models. Basically specialist in scouting & Guerrilla warfare, infiltrating behind enemy lines & hitting high value targets or marking targets for orbital bombardment.
You literally gave your space marine a haircut and I think that's amazing. He looks superb and I really like the format of this video. Please do Salamanders!!
Another great conversion Pete! The instruction and humor is perfect. I like the 5 Ways to Convert series as you are making some very interesting models and I am looking forward to your next tutorial. By the way, the painting on the figure is terrific.
Would love to see you do some stuff on Black Templars, how to spice up normal marines to look more like a Black Templar would! Great video, have not regretted subin!
I'm actually toying with the idea of loyalist chapters produced with traitor geneseed, kind of like how Sons of the Phoenix are hinted at being made with Emperors Children gene-seed on the sly. So these might find their way in some way!
Creating the hair that way is something I'd have thought of and such a fantastic bit of intellect for Raven guard modelers, I'm doing this myself now. Thanks for the great tutorial. Another suggestion would be to invest in some hobby chain. I've drilled holes through the back of the bird skulls and fed through the chains to create a chained bird skull effect, easy to achieve and looks fantastic.
nice ideas there, I still need to find some feathers for my Raven Guard-Deathwatch Captain, however I did use several of the bird/skulls. Additional ideas I found quit fitting are bits from the Ravenwing-Box. My captain recieved a 'raven-hammer' and the corax-style helmet included with some additional details (plating). Also I used a plasma-pistol with some wing-iconography from Blood Angels-sets and several wings to glue to the jump-pack, legs and co by cutting aquila-symbols from the vehicle-sprues. Base modell was the already dynamic Deathwatch Captain Artemis with a new head and a mono-jumppack from the sanguinary guard (without wings for tactical reasons ;) )
Pete The Wargamer consider it repayment for inspiring my Kill Team. The Van Saar to Eversor conversion. I even have Goliath Ogryns now. The whole team was a blast to assemble, paint and play.
Odd question, maybe I've missed it but have you done a 'how to paint raven guard', LOVE that scheme you have going on with the weathering and scratching.
Have a Space Marine army, and I use the Beakies as my Veterans, and Sergeants, because you'd have to have been around a while to earn those titles, and the Beak Helms are older gear in my head canon.
You should do a video on sons of the Phoenix. I'd love to see you take on candles and other gothic themed conversions. Everyone loves the sons of Fulg..... I mean Dorn. We're definintly the sons of Dorn.... Let's fortify our positions brothers?... Build a wall?....
What's that? We have a phoenix in our name and that despicable traitor Fulgrim was known as the Palatine Phoenix? Oh total coincidence, that and the purple armour and the wings in our iconography..
Pete The Wargamer oh, my boy. You are clearly a misguided youth and this is only just a phase? Why can't you be more like Guy from Midwinter minis? He seems nice and respects his parents. No go outside with your skateboard and don't hurt yourself. And be back by dinner. Your mother is making meatloaf
It would be awesome to convert Agrax Agatone into Kill Team as a Terminator. His base 40mm so I guess he can't easily fit as Intercessor. His Thunder Hammer is already an option for the terminator, he is just missing the shield
What are Raven Guars but miss understood super human teenagers. Reminds me of my high school yrs. Wearing black all the time, long grunge hair, listening to The Cure while smoking cigarettes and drinking beer someones older sister bought for us, talking about Edgar Allan Poe. Good times.
Raven Guard aren't really stealthy in the sense you imply (i.e. by using silencers or such). They are stealthy on the tactical scale. They wait in silence not showing their numbers to the enemy and once the time is right they make deadly drop pod assaults to surprise the enemy.
Check out my poll on my community page and vote for the heretical option. There's a good chance I'll use it as an excuse to do some iron warriors if they win.

@@PeteTheWargamer they're a bit popular lol
@@PeteTheWargamer yeaaahh do it. They are super great. I have seen amazing conversions done by fans. They are sooo good.
There is such a level of insanity to "silencing" a weapon as powerful and loud as a bolter.
I love it!
"My chemical Corvax" had me in tears
They collabed with konrad to release "papa" before the heresy...

It is a pity that you didn’t do a painting tutorial because the miniature looks so good! Awesome job
Never say never! Although, I did just say it twice.. man, I'm such a hypocrite.
Black templars are always interesting with cloaks and head swaps, plus fancy swords aren't anything to bawk at either
Plus if you ever need anything towing, they always have a chain handy...
Could you please make an How To Paint tutorial for this raven guard color scheme!!
I probably should do shouldn't I?
@@PeteTheWargamer Yes please because it looks awesome!
Pete The Wargamer would love to see this! Pls do
@@PeteTheWargamer been waiting for a paint tutorial since you released this haha! I loooove your paint schemes
@@PeteTheWargamer please do. The way the black turned out on the Raven Guard and the Iron Hands model is something I'd like to achieve
From the most heavily decimated and aggrieved legion in the heresy, to boy-band misfit teens joke material, ouch. no wonder Corax left.
I heard someone stole his eyeliner
They’re still the kindest legion, tho. All the humanitarianism of the salamanders with far less burning people alive
Genuinely enjoying the more humorous approach, love your stuff your tutorials are invaluable, keep it up mate!
I saved a bunch of the new Horus heresy beakie helms for my soon to be built and painted Raven guard.
Came for Space Marine content, stayed and liked for the jokes. Spot-on. ;)
That bumper books of jokes paid off then 😉
Love to see 5 ways to do imperial fists also a fan of the death korps of krieg so any thing there would be cool too.
As soon as I figure out how to make a cement mixer out of spare bits, I'll be right on those Imperial Fists 😜
The Sponsor part was BRILLIANT! I was laughing through the rest of the vid

Long live CORAX !! Long last the beak helms! Very good video! The best you have ever made. Well because it’s about the best Chapter ever
Sorry you must be mistaken, this video was about Raven Guard, not Salamanders....
