  • How to assemble and build miniatures can be a time consuming and tool filled process. But what are your options? And well, I needed an excuse to build an whole host of my own miniatures. You know, before I ended up putting them in a raffle at my local school.
    I'm not expecting a huge amount of views on this video but I needed to do something to get through my incredibly epic pile of shame!
    So thanks in advance if you watch and read this!

    The transitions were particularly excellent in this one, the Horse stock footage for the glue bit didn’t go unnoticed 😂
    Also, sprue goo is excellent, so long as you use one of the Tamiya extra thin jars if you have more than one, as the brush applicator gives you the precision that you mentioned was lacking. I’ve found it to be so useful.

    My favorite parts of assembly are: gluing my fingers to the model when I’m holding the arms on the model while the bolter and hands set and also when I snip a piece off the sprue just to find that the piece I cut was actually a tiny detail.

    A Thumb! I almost had coffee up my nose! Seriously, while I do enjoy the detail on some of the newer models, I miss the simplistic builds of the 90-00s when you had a torso, arms, legs, head and maybe some optional gubbins. It was a lot easier back then to convert using parts from multiple kits as well whereas today it's extremely more difficult.

    Great video, good tips 👍.
    Some comments;
    Contacta cement - clear the blocked metal tube bit by heating with a lighter. Good for bigger models or with poor fit as it has limited gap filling properties unlike super thin, which is always my own first preference. Will be checking out the broach - never too many tools 😅
    Thanks for highlighting the Tamiya and AK options for super thin glue, I bought two bottles of the Tamiya airbrush cleaner , should last years 😊.
    Fillers; source Tamiya epoxy putty rather than green stuff, just all round better...
    Milliput - watch Marco Frisoni's video on it.
    Sprue goo - agree about the smell and it can be awkward to use cleanly (sacrifice an old brush?) but, if you know you will be able to blend into the gaps with more super thin cement it can be great, especially when production line assembly of organic/irregular shaped models.

    • @thestateofplay2023
      @thestateofplay2023  2 месяца назад +1

      I stopped using the tube stuff because the tamiya brush is just far better. And not everyone has a lighter available. Especially when I switched to gaping. 🤣
      And as for sprue goo. I’d rather use my sprues for better uses when the tamiya stuff is so much cleaner, safer, easier and harder no smell. 👍🏼

    I'm so glad to see this. My wife was nice enough to let me blow some household money on the Kroot Hunting Pack. I haven't built a new model in... wow, I really can't remember how long. This was a great refresher. For clipping things like paper clips, I skip the clippers all together and break out my Leatherman. For filling gaps, I fill it with baking soda and then drop super glue onto it. It dries rock hard almost instantly. It's trick I read about in an old model railroading book.
    Really looking forward to your next video!

      That’s literally what I spent a few days building. As kits go it’s not half bad, sprue nobs are easy to clean or are quite hidden, few mold lines. Some bloody tiny fiddly parts and I lost one already to the hungry carpet but all in all great kit. They’ll feature in the next video.

  • @MyGoobz
    @MyGoobz 2 месяца назад +1

    Just as a small point. For the citadel metal tube, you can clear it by taking a lighter to it. Hold it with some pliers (for safety) and then use a lighter on the other end. You will hear the glue burn and pop and it will clear it out. I agree that Tamiya ET is the GOAT but now you have a way to use AI that glue.

    Thx a lot for starting this new series! Can't wait for the next episode.
    I'm about to start a new army and I'm struggling with the preparation of some models, since painting them once fully assembled is far from being comfortable or fun. But I haven't found a satisfying solution for breaking down the process yet.
    Priming everything in the sprue and painting harder to reach parts of the models shortly after/before building the model? Great in terms of accessibility, but removing the pieces from the sprue/removing mold lines after they've been primed and/or partially painted? Pretty f'ed up.
    Preparing all parts incl. assembly for priming without gluing on some parts (like arms) would do the trick... but quite a lot of parts of the affected models need to be attached to the inside of the torso -.-
    I rly hope you can provide the missing piece to this puzzle and bring the fun back into this project!
    Thx again for the great work, including you're very informative and funny videos in the past. Keep them coming and stay safe!

      Ah yes you’ve accidentally hit the nail on the head. The hidden skill of figuring out assembly without assembling every part. There’s not really a trick to it other then reading ahead and deciding whether something SHOULD be glued or not. I tend to not glue anything that covers something else. So arms across bodies. Guns in the way. Glueing to bases. Any number of things I look at right before gluing and go, “nope, not gluing that. There’s no way I want to paint around that!”.

      What is funny is they are the "budget" option for Gunpla. Godhands are the expensive variant, at about $50. Dspiae makes great tools though, its what I have been using as I have just started messing with miniatures but have all the tools for Gunpla already. DSPIAE is a brand that is almost universally good, only a small handful of their tools have been less than ideal.

      The issue I personally had with godhands are most are single blades. One cutting bllade side is flat, the other is a blade that’s slightly off centre. Great for the flat surfaces of gunpla but on organic shaped minis I found it left way more sprue nub. Oh they cut like butter but there’s more clean up to do after.

Or trimming down the end of rawl plugs if they won't go quite in the wall. More info for people: Glue: tried over 20 of them, and back to Citadel for gluing most all of the tiny plastic bits that they make you glue just to prove your committment. Use Gorilla Super Glue for ancient resin models. Use JD Weld Epoxy UV tube (US brand?) for the unglue-able-- you dab the glue on, hold pieces for 45s, flip glue pen around, turn on UV, shine for 10-15s and glue is set. just use one pot until only half remains and then fill it up with sprue you cut up in to small pieces after around 12 hours all the sprue has melted down and your left with some gray gop or slop that you can still use as glue but also as gap filler if you see an gap while dry fitting also dont buy liquid green stuff it does not do what it should it shrinks to much and leaves behind texture you have to sand down later if you want that texture search on youtube for ``the real use for liquid green stuff`` and you will find a nice uncle who talks about some things
