I always see IS-2s using this strat and always wondered how effective it is. And I gotta say, it is very effective, but extremely annoying to anyone that fights you. Not many things will go through the engine block, and the added wood armor at the sides make its almost impossible to get penned.

You can kinda do the reverse trick in the Strv m/42 EH, it’s not the best but it kinda works

Sure back Traverse is fast but one hit from any tank really (m4a1 foe) and u're a sitting duck at best.
This is a good reason for anime people to pump in the Soviet branch of heavy tanks and beat off enemy shells with their ass IS-2, presenting, instead of a tank, an anime girl with a big booty.
As a german main i usually aim at the turret cheek if im using the panther or king tiger if I'm using the regular tiger i usually flank since most of my teams are genuinely brain dead

Ahh, the original IS-4 and IS-5 are the IS with 100mm, the Object 245 and Object 248

I don't do it on those cause the front armor is good enough, and they don't have the IS-2 reverse gear

Really fun tank. But sucks it has no GD and the reload is so damn long. That is still my main problem with the Russian 122MM and even US 105/120MM

Yeah this strategy is too effective. As long as you aren't fighting a nation stuck with solid shot AP. Which of course just means beware of Brits and Swedes (but mostly Brits).
Because APHE and HEAT damage gets eaten by the engine. So if you're stuck with APHE and not willing to test your luck on turret weak points thanks to Volumetric shenanigans, you better light him on fire 3 times.

Yes, but this makes it so your lower glacis never show. I would argue lower glacis is a better weakspot than the turret
