to be more accurate the film was an O brian idea that was pitch to toho and it was King Kong vs Frankenstein monster (that where the electric power comes from) Toho decided to have their own monster in the film so they put godzilla to replace but let kong get the electric power. They eventually did a frankenstein kaiju movie but it did not have godzilla in it just baragon.
Nope, the only pitch to toho came after the Frankenstein idea was already gone and they had a new monster, I don't remember who though, so the giy ovarian had helping make the movie went behind d his back and went to toho and toho wanted to use one of their own monsters, and O'brian didnt know, but once the did know the stress of the situation caused him to have a heart attack and he died

Godzilla hell yeah. Ps Ryan be careful with that showa era collection. Apparently Criterion recalled some of them because if they’re kept in too hot of an environment the glue will melt onto a lot of the disks and ruin them.

Shin Godzilla is the perfect modern Godzilla movie. It's horrific and fact paced as a Godzilla film should be. That was my only issue with Minus One. It starts with some fast paced action, then slows way down to become an extended drama through the middle, then ends with some amazing action. I haven't seen all the Godzilla movies, but I remember the best ones having a break neck pace after Godzilla shows up until the end of the movie.
Saying how you’re gonna have s tier be hard to get into and the best of the best and then having it be the longest tier is hiliarious. Also minus one not being one of your favorites is insane, cannot even comprehend that decision
God I’m loving the big G renaissance we are in. Personal favorite has got be Monster Zero. Roderick and Glenn would be the best crossover team up of all time. Plus the Xillians outfits 🤌🏻 perfection! I also think Titanosaurus is the s***. Never seen another monster boot Godzilla like a football… just saying.

For me, Showa era movies are all at the top but I'll admit that's likely in part nostalgia goggles. I watched Showa ever since nursery school, but I didn't see most of Heisei and Millenium until I was in high school. The Godzilla anime movies are the only Godzilla movies I have no desire to ever rewatch
I've been blessed with having access to most of the films as a kid so everything up till final wars is nostalgic haha. The downside is that I don't think I could really appreciate the more serious classics like 1954 and 1984 at that young age, but definitely itching to rewatch them having seen Minus One!
Born in 83 so I started watching Godzilla late 80s early 90s. I loved the showa Era. I had godzilla (kotm*), raids again, kong vs , sea monster, gigan, megalon, both mechagodzillas on vhs then taped son of godzilla and ghidorah. Loved sea monster and mechag. I also had godzilla 95 which being a kid and heisei movies were not being released i thought it was showa Era. I saw vs hedora once and it was a rental from a long Island video store.
I love the campy old school Godzilla movies, especially the ones with the little aliens. Adorable 🥰. Also loved the one where the Asian assassin lady tried to seduce the American. The dubs were and are still so funny. Mecha-Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora and Kong are all amazing. I do like the new movies as well. I’m glad they brought him back in our lifetimes. 🤘😎
I’m one of those All Monsters Attack/Godzilla’s Revenge is secretly not bad guys…like it’s nowhere near my favorite but it was the first time since Mothra vs. Godzilla that the human drama engaged me on a level higher than “lol this is silly and a set up for monsters to fight.” To me the footage recycling comes off as an artist working within constraints more so than a corporate product made to milk some cash out of the public, particularly because Honda has said he was proud of the story.

There are two types of people, people that swear by shin Godzilla and people that swear by minus one , I lean toward Minus one . Shin Godzilla’s rewatch ability is pretty bad lol it’s very boring when Godzilla isn’t on screen. Minus one you actually feel for the characters have fear for what’s going to happen to them and Godzillas presence is awe inspiring
Godzilla Minus One was my film of the year for 2023. Godzilla 1985 (aka The Return of Godzilla) was the first Godzilla film I ever saw, and it's still one of my favourites: it's a thrilling monster action-disaster movie, but also a compelling Cold War political thriller. I also love Godzilla 2000, GMK and Tokyo SOS. I really liked the first two Godzilla anime films, but didn't like the third that much. It's interesting that you don't like doppelganger villains, as one aspect I love about the Heisei series is how most of the monster antagonists are a dark reflection of Godzilla himself. Biollante is a hybrid of rose and Godzilla DNA; King Ghidorah was formed from the same atomic blast that created Godzilla; Mechagodzilla is an anti-Godzilla robot; Spacegodzilla is a hybrid of Godzilla cells and a crystalline alien; Destoroyah was formed from the very Oxygen Destroyer weapon that killed the original Godzilla.
Yeah naturally there are the two ways to rank: favorites and approaching objectivity. I try to go more into objective analysis, but the difficulty there is that without longer discussions, there are three distinct points everybody will initially disagree on (1. What flaws and merits we actually do observe and don't go over our heads. 2. Our evaluation of the flaws and merits in the film. 3. How that compares to our evaluation of other films). My S Tier would contain Godzilla 1954 (for obvious reasons), King Kong vs Godzilla (for having good suspense in the train scenes and being a genuinely biting satire on the Japanese economy in the Japanese cut of the film), Son of Godzilla (the execution of the characterization for Goro Maki and the island girl as well as Godzilla and Minilla with thr puppetwork being exceptional for Kumonga and Kamacuras), Terror of Mechagodzilla (for teasing audience wanting Godzilla more intelligently than G14 by showing weak humans, strong villains and an air of tragedy that calls for a larger than life hero that does not show up until thr end), Godzilla vs Biollante (very smooth execution of weird ideas), GMK, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (for Akane), and Godzilla Minus One (of which I am in the camp that it is the best one overall for doing stuff like Akane's arc or most of the ideas in GMK as well as some inspiration from the original and King Kong vs Godzilla equally as good if not better than the inspirations). But I can also see how people will have different. It's just that the arguments that have convinced me have convinced me. I think the Heisei series floats around A tier for having definite strengths and weaknesses that I cannot ignore, with the Monsterverse around B tier. But if I go favorites, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II and Godzilla vs Kong all day! Though I am in the honeymoon phase with Minus One and GxK rn too

To me it’s more fun when S tier has limitations because it makes me really think about what I consider to be my top favorites. Reserving it for only the “top 10” makes it more exclusive. But I understand if you think differently and didn’t like my setup
Cool list, but not taking Minus One in S KILLED ME. I mean its the most Godzillaesk movie since the original. Its like a Remake with a darker tone and better visuals. So if the original is your number oner; it doesnt make any sense, that Minus One isnt up there..
I personally would put Invasion of Astro monster into the S-Tier. All of the American Godzilla movies are going into D and F tier for me they just dont do anything for me except, my controversial take that Godzilla vs Kong is the best American godzilla movie of them all.

Im about your age & also grew up with only the Showa Era films & the other kaiju films of that era like Rodan & War Of The Gargantuans & Varan❤ The original 1954 film & Minus One are the only S tier ones in my opinion King Kong VS Godzilla (1962) , Godzilla VS Mothera (1964) , Ghidorah (1965) , Godzilla VS Monster Zero (1966) , Godzilla VS Gigan (1972) , Godzilla VS Mecha Godzilla (1974) Godzilla (1985) Godzilla (2014) & King Of The Monsters (2019) are all A tier for me !!!!! The rest of the Showa movies are all B tier for me other than Godzillas Revenge because that's definitely F tier 😂 Other than Godzilla 1985 , all the Heisei & Millennial movies are all D tier in my opinion , i never liked any of them at all !!!!! Its funny u brang up Glenn's Rizz because he actually Rizzed his female Alien costar into dating him after the filming 😂 Btw , I don't think they ever had Godzilla VS The Smog Monster on VHS , i think it was only on TV !!!! So, Anguirus is supposed to be pronounced as An-gear-us. Megaguirus has the same "guirus" in it, so I always thought it was pronounced Mega-gear-us, but apparently, a lot of people pronounce it like you do. It'd make sense if Anguirus didn't exist. You could see how that spelling would make people say Mega-guy-rus. But nobody says An-guy-rus. So who's correct? I'd prefer to say it correctly.
There's a lot I haven't watched. A lot of humongous-rocky-nuclear-lizard thigh. Shin was sooo weird, it felt viscerally disgusting and dreadful. Like a 90's anime.

S represents my top 10 so there's 10 lol. Minus One is my number 11 so it was close, out of over 30 films I'd say it's still pretty high up there

I also had godzilla 95 which being a kid and heisei movies were not being released i thought it was showa Era. I saw vs hedora once and it was a rental from a long Island video store.
I love the campy old school Godzilla movies, especially the ones with the little aliens. Adorable 🥰. Also loved the one where the Asian assassin lady tried to seduce the American. The dubs were and are still so funny. Mecha-Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora and Kong are all amazing. I do like the new movies as well. I’m glad they brought him back in our lifetimes. 🤘😎
The thing I will say for King Kong vs Godzilla, the soundtrack is absolutely amazing
I’m one of those All Monsters Attack/Godzilla’s Revenge is secretly not bad guys…like it’s nowhere near my favorite but it was the first time since Mothra vs. Godzilla that the human drama engaged me on a level higher than “lol this is silly and a set up for monsters to fight.” To me the footage recycling comes off as an artist working within constraints more so than a corporate product made to milk some cash out of the public, particularly because Honda has said he was proud of the story.

There are two types of people, people that swear by shin Godzilla and people that swear by minus one , I lean toward Minus one . Shin Godzilla’s rewatch ability is pretty bad lol it’s very boring when Godzilla isn’t on screen. Minus one you actually feel for the characters have fear for what’s going to happen to them and Godzillas presence is awe inspiring
Godzilla Minus One was my film of the year for 2023. Godzilla 1985 (aka The Return of Godzilla) was the first Godzilla film I ever saw, and it's still one of my favourites: it's a thrilling monster action-disaster movie, but also a compelling Cold War political thriller. I also love Godzilla 2000, GMK and Tokyo SOS. I really liked the first two Godzilla anime films, but didn't like the third that much.
It's interesting that you don't like doppelganger villains, as one aspect I love about the Heisei series is how most of the monster antagonists are a dark reflection of Godzilla himself. Biollante is a hybrid of rose and Godzilla DNA; King Ghidorah was formed from the same atomic blast that created Godzilla; Mechagodzilla is an anti-Godzilla robot; Spacegodzilla is a hybrid of Godzilla cells and a crystalline alien; Destoroyah was formed from the very Oxygen Destroyer weapon that killed the original Godzilla.

Yeah naturally there are the two ways to rank: favorites and approaching objectivity. I try to go more into objective analysis, but the difficulty there is that without longer discussions, there are three distinct points everybody will initially disagree on (1. What flaws and merits we actually do observe and don't go over our heads. 2. Our evaluation of the flaws and merits in the film. 3. How that compares to our evaluation of other films).
My S Tier would contain Godzilla 1954 (for obvious reasons), King Kong vs Godzilla (for having good suspense in the train scenes and being a genuinely biting satire on the Japanese economy in the Japanese cut of the film), Son of Godzilla (the execution of the characterization for Goro Maki and the island girl as well as Godzilla and Minilla with thr puppetwork being exceptional for Kumonga and Kamacuras), Terror of Mechagodzilla (for teasing audience wanting Godzilla more intelligently than G14 by showing weak humans, strong villains and an air of tragedy that calls for a larger than life hero that does not show up until thr end), Godzilla vs Biollante (very smooth execution of weird ideas), GMK, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (for Akane), and Godzilla Minus One (of which I am in the camp that it is the best one overall for doing stuff like Akane's arc or most of the ideas in GMK as well as some inspiration from the original and King Kong vs Godzilla equally as good if not better than the inspirations). But I can also see how people will have different. It's just that the arguments that have convinced me have convinced me. I think the Heisei series floats around A tier for having definite strengths and weaknesses that I cannot ignore, with the Monsterverse around B tier. But if I go favorites, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II and Godzilla vs Kong all day! Though I am in the honeymoon phase with Minus One and GxK rn too

To me it’s more fun when S tier has limitations because it makes me really think about what I consider to be my top favorites. Reserving it for only the “top 10” makes it more exclusive. But I understand if you think differently and didn’t like my setup

Cool list, but not taking Minus One in S KILLED ME. I mean its the most Godzillaesk movie since the original. Its like a Remake with a darker tone and better visuals. So if the original is your number oner; it doesnt make any sense, that Minus One isnt up there..

I personally would put Invasion of Astro monster into the S-Tier. All of the American Godzilla movies are going into D and F tier for me they just dont do anything for me except, my controversial take that Godzilla vs Kong is the best American godzilla movie of them all.

The original 1954 film & Minus One are the only S tier ones in my opinion

So, Anguirus is supposed to be pronounced as An-gear-us. Megaguirus has the same "guirus" in it, so I always thought it was pronounced Mega-gear-us, but apparently, a lot of people pronounce it like you do. It'd make sense if Anguirus didn't exist. You could see how that spelling would make people say Mega-guy-rus. But nobody says An-guy-rus. So who's correct? I'd prefer to say it correctly.
Minus one is easily the best.
