I never was much interested in silat, what I saw was mainly guys wearing some differetn shawls, one of them playing a mannequin another peppering him with fast light punches for 5 hours in a row :) Your explanation made silat worth learning some more about it.
Sean, for me if I was going to their inside, I'd use a backhand brush movement w/ 1 hand check theirl ive hand w/ the other & w/ your first hand strike them. The first 1 you was doing is part of the sinawali pattern called heaven 6, parry check strike

I practice the Inosanto blend Maphilindo Silat in the St. Louis, MO. area under a certified instructor Guro Joe Craig. He also teaches JKD concepts & Kali Silat. Had a little Wing Chun experience from another instructor from the school also. I like mixing some of the hand concepts of Wing Chun w/ Silat concepts & techniques.
