I don't think the transition to the phase 2 music at 8:11 was there in the gameplay you watched. It's very dependent on when exactly the player triggers his second phase. It won't happen as smoothly every time, especially in boss fights with no cutscene to give the music time to transition.
One thing to note is the player has Ludwig's Holy Blade equipped which means that they are at least on New Game + with this character so, ignoring the player's experience, they are considerably more well equipped than if this character was a fresh start.

Ahhhh bloodborne. One of the important things in this game is that blood is explicitly more addictive than alcohol and was also used to control and gain power. For more context, spoilers for those unaware: the blood is alien/eldritch and nature and while it can heal incurable diseases, it also slowly corrupts and drives people mad. Imagine an entire city that gets insanely wealthy and powerful via cult-like rise in religion via deliberately gas leak poisoning the populace LOL. And as people take this very tempting and addictive substance, they slowly become beasts. The beasts you hunt were once people, and still are. They're just twisted. And it's VERY telling that you don't get any free health potions in bloodborne unlike other Fromsoft games. The ONLY way to heal in the game realistically is to stalk the streets slaughtering former humans and wringing them dry for their blood. Because their unwilling blood donations are what power you up and heal you. You are just as much of a junkie as the beasts and the citizens. Father Gascoigne is meant to be the first time you realize truly where beasts come from (citizens), and he's a dark premonition of what could happen to you as a fellow hunter if you lose yourself to the cycle of unethical substance abuse and violence.
I really think it's a beautiful way to appreciate the music of FromSoftware or video games in general. First listening to it, while watching the scene it plays in for context, then listening to it on its own to hear all the details.
What I love about his theme is, as he transforms it gains more momentum... But HE also gains a lot of momentum. At this point, his fight lightly punishes you for dodging back, mostly since the slower moving shotgun blasts can catch you if you dodge back and don't time it right, plus the occasional lunge or thrust. However, as he turns into a beast, EVERY attack is a lunging motion, while some cover absolutely STUPID ground. It's almost guaranteed to catch you if you dodge straight back. And I do really love this, because while on the practical side of things this is just a way to teach the player to be more aggressive by making them less comfortable with disengaging, they still went the extra mile with the music, giving it the exact same forward momentum and increase in pace as the actual fight itself.
You can thank some of the commenters for that idea! I think adding the visuals is the way to go for some of these boss fight tracks! I just hope I find good clips where we can hear the entire music track (including the transition between phases)
Before you listen to Dark Souls 3, I recommend listening to Watchers, Ebrietas Daughter of the Cosmos, Queen of the Vilebloods, Rom the Vacuous Spider, The One Reborn, Soothing Hymn If you're gonna listen to Dark Souls 3 next time, you should listen to everything, cause every single music is phenomenal I recommend listening to the main menu theme and prologue (you could watch the prologue the same way you watched Father Gascoigne) before you listen to the bosses Amazing video, im looking forward to more!❤
THIS IS FREAKIN PERFECT! I was going to suggest (catching up to your videos) that you react to the songs in the context of the actual fight, which I havent seen in any other reactors so far. Much applause!
Usually when you kill a boss, you expect ''Victory'' and not ''Prey Slaughtered''. To make it simple, you are a hunter, they are hunt. Even if the game is very well unforgiving, brutal this is a hunt. And considering this whole game happens in a single night... The Hunter is to be feared.
This song always goes one of two ways for me. Either I feel like a little rabbit being chased down by a horrible wolf or I'm the wolf chasing down the rabbit. With the prey slaughtered message at the end of the fight I'll admit that I usually feel more like the wolf but my first few times sure made me feel like the rabbit. The string attacks you mentioned especially make me feel like the essence of life is being desperately fought over. The passion and power of that section is so effective and evocative. If you powerfully exhale to the rhythm I swear that it immediately leads to hyperventilating. lol. More to the point, it's funny, your various versions of father G and papa G both remind me of musician on youtube who has been writing and performing these utterly fresh variations of the Bloodborne songs. Incidentally the Father Gascoigne song he named, "Daddy G," and it's unbelievably smooth. Almost hot and cool at the same time. The musician's name is Fearnley FitzRoy and that's his channel name as well. Further proof that Bloodborne music is in a class of it's own. =)
I loved this song in the soundtrack. If I had to put a feeling to it during the fight, it felt very Van Hellsing-like... If that makes sense. I mean, oddly enough you'd think it should feel that way through the whole game because the entirety of it has you fighting beasts and hunting monsters (which is... ya know... Van Hellsings thing.) but I just thought this music just CAPTURED it more than all of the others. And oddly enough it's a hunter vs hunter duel that turns into a hunter vs beast fight nearing the third quarter of it.
13:44 Sad Fun Fact: The player can receive a music box from an NPC, who is heavily implied to be the daughter of Gascoigne. The music box is an item that can actually be played and if used during his 2nd phase a.k.a his beast form, he will stop fighting the player to hold his head in desperation
Gascoigne's wife is lay on a tomb roof at the back of the area. To actually see it, the player has to ascend the stairs and traverse around, past the exit gate and then drop down to the lower roof. Once there, you can collect her brooche which you can do one of two things with: either break it for an early game weapon gem or return it to the daughter. The latter option sets off a small chain of events that are very sad.
Another interpretation of the murder of Gascoigne's wife is that he didn't kill her at all. She went looking for him, was found and killed by the various other people who are now bodies in the arena, and Gascoigne found them after the fact and proceeded to lose what was left of his mind. I personally prefer this interpretation.
Ooooh I prefer that too, but is her killer up to interpretation like that? I thought it was fact that Gasc killed her because he didn't recognize her. But I also know a LOT is unknown and left open-ended in the game/series so maybe I'm wrong lol
@@TeraCMusic No, the game does not provide a clear explanation to her death. The interpretation that it was Father G. who killed her comes from the detail that she forgot to take the music box with her when looking for him on a hunt night. We are told by their daughter that the music box reminds him who he is, so we can interpret he is very far gone already into the lust for blood and it's very likely that, since she couldn't use the music box, he just didn't recognize her wife, took her for another beast and killed her. Bloodborne world is extremely ruthless and cruel (remember the "Prey Slaughtered" text) so normally the worst possible explanation tends to be the assumed as true by the community.
@@TeraCMusicOne point that occurs to me as potential support for the idea that he didn't kill her is that her body is found in an interesting spot: on a roof, positioned in relation to FG and the surroundings in a way that suggests he is protecting her corpse. He may have found her dead and moved her to that spot, remaining here with his final task as his humanity fades (perhaps he senses that this trauma has pushed him too close to beasthood for him to trust himself to return to his daughter as a protector). He may have thought that, even as a beast, he may end up protecting her body (and possible memory) as a side-effect of protecting his territory - and, perhaps to keep his beast self from consuming her body, she's in a spot that could be easy to miss (except by the player, who sees big white glowing spots where items are, drawing them to the pendant on her body). Of course, none of this really disproves FG as the killer, I'd say it even more supports that idea. It would be more traumatic if he was the killer, and it would better feed the idea that his daughter would stand a better chance without him. Better to use the last of his humanity for symbolic protection, since his capability for practical protection has proven compromised.
Is that the one who constantly condemns Bayle during the fight?? Lol I watched a friend stream that boss fight and it got old real fast when my friend died often 😂
One thing worth mentioning about the initial comment you read out is that a very common theory is that Gascoigne's rank of Father IS clerical, but from another outside church. (the 'literally a father' interpretation is one I can't say I've heard before) This mainly stems from his accent being different from most of the locals and Yharnam being stated to receive a lot of incoming people looking for treatment via transfusion of the holy blood. It's not confirmed, but it seems much more likely for it to be the case for such a religion-centric game compared to it referring to him literally being a father.
I really want a music reaction channel to delve into the lore of the character the theme is based on. So they can really understand why the track sounds the way it does and allowing them to see the character and who they are. If you could, please check out the lore or fight of Gherman. His story is amazing. And you can see how kuch you got right when you listend to his music.
An awesome reaction of an awesome fight. I hope once you go through Bloodbornes great ost catalogue, you move onto the other souls games, Sekiro, Dark Souls, and Elden Ring
Not sure if it's a thing in the US, but definitely in Ireland and the UK, father was (and may still be, i'm not sure) commonly used as a catch-all term church-goers would use for Catholic/Anglican priests. It didn't denote a specific rank per se, but could be used in a very general, familiar sense, and seems to be associated closely with Ireland in particular. Given Gascoigne's name (it's not an unusual surname in the UK) and accent (which sounds Irish to me), I think that's probably what the Father part of his name is implying; while there is no 'Father' rank in Yharnam's healing church, the description of his equipment states that he gained the title from a foreign land rather than his actual fatherhood.
Yeah but... y u no listen to 2nd part of song? Joking - great reaction and thanks for uploading! I'm so glad you listened to the actual song without the visuals though haha as for a moment I thought you weren't gonna listen to the entire thing again 🤣🤣 Honestly I think Bayle, The Dread's transition to second phase in both music and visuals is probably the best in the whole SoulsBourneSekiroRing (lol) series just in terms of spectacle. Midir and Gael are a close second. Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame is so good too.
1 - OMG MY COMMENT! (unreasonably hyped) 2 - The reason you can't find her corpse in the video is that she is up the stairs in an area of the arena the player didn't go, you can just make out the sparkling "item" glow that helps you find her behind the tree on the roof of a small mausoleum in some shots. 3 - Re: how they use the music dynamically. It's actually the reverse of what you suggested. The original is several nicely looping pieces of music, but to release the OST they merge them together into a single track. My favorite use of this technique is in Shadow of the Colossus where contextually throughout every battle the tracks are constantly merging and switching. 4 - Definitely jump between different game soundtracks I think. So long as they don't vary too much it should expand your reach in the algorithm. 5 - Because the player never dies you don't get to hear Gascoigne's victory lines. "Too proud to show your true face eh? But a sporting hunt it was." when in human form, playing into his self deception that it's OK to kill the player because they must certainly also be turning into a beast, so are acceptable prey; or in his beast form "Graaawwwerrrghhhaaa!!!" (LOL) 6 - I'm especially looking forward to you watching the Ebrietas : Daughter of the Cosmos boss fight along with that theme. I think seeing the fight really brings more meaning to the choices the composers made.
@@ArgyleR04D So much info in this comment, thank you!! I think for future videos where I watch the boss fight, I'll start first with music-only and then move onto the battle itself to see if my predictions and observations were correct!
Little summary of the story line behind this boss and the npcs and I did a bit of research to make sure i remembered everything correctly because my comment on the last video was a bit off I confused 2 different boss lores. Also if you plan on playing the game spoilers ahead. So you need this young girl at a window where she asks you to find her mother and gives you a music box to calm down her father. When you collect the red jeweled brooch off the corpse of her mother you have the option to return it to the kid and lie about what happened or tell the truth although both have similar outcomes. If you lie to her you can send her to a safe place called oedon chapel where on her way there she will be killed by this giant mutated pig. If you tell her the truth she will cry and then still end up wandering out and being killed by the pig. With both after she died later in the game her sister will be at the window she once was. If you told the truth to the little girl and then collect the red messenger ribbon off the body of the little girl and give it to her sister when you come back the sister has unalived herself. If you lied to the little girl she and give the ribbon to the sister she will act insane for a bit laughing but later the same ending to the quest line. Or you can send the little girl to the clinic where she is turned into an alien.
You should react to gherman the first hunter boss fight, as well as the moon presence. The moon presence is very disturbing, but also is perfect theme music for a being that tricks you into committing infanticide.
A note about the “Father” title, it’s implied through some of the item descriptions and other lore that Father Gascoigne is foreign to the country of Yharnam and that he may be of a different unspecified religion that does use the term Father as a religious title. Why he traveled to Yharnam and got married is never specified to my knowledge Edit: if you look at his concept art, his attire under the trenchcoat is very reminiscent of a catholic priest’s, even if you barely see it during the fight. He’s likely the setting’s equivalent of a catholic.
In addition, Gascoigne was a very well respected hunter. There’s a character called Eileen The Crow who is a self described “hunter of hunters.” It’s her job to track down and kill hunters that have gotten too bloodthirsty and started killing innocent people. She openly mourns Gascoigne’s death and says it was a shame it had to happen, but she’s glad you did it instead of her.
Before jumping into Dark Souls 3 you have to know some songs from the first Dark Souls, the second one doesn't have such a strong connection (nor as many memorable tracks), but the ideal would be to also go through it and get to know their music in order.
@@TeraCMusic So you've already had the biggest spoiler haha. Another direct and clear connection is between Dark Sun Gwyndolin and Aldritch, Devourer of Gods, but there are some more subtle ones: Centipede Demon/Chaos Witch Quelaag/Bed of Chaos and Old Demon King; Great Grey Wolf Sif/Artorias of the Abyss and Abyss Watchers.

@lucasmarshall837 oh wow another great interpretation and possibility!
Elden Ring OST: Bayle the Dread with Igon's Voicelines
Is that the one who constantly condemns Bayle during the fight?? Lol I watched a friend stream that boss fight and it got old real fast when my friend died often 😂
個人的には「The One Reborn」も聞いて欲しいかな
FATHER GASCOGGANOGGA!!
Next Please react to the full Cleric Beast Bossfight the music without the boss Screams just isnt complete
One thing worth mentioning about the initial comment you read out is that a very common theory is that Gascoigne's rank of Father IS clerical, but from another outside church. (the 'literally a father' interpretation is one I can't say I've heard before)
This mainly stems from his accent being different from most of the locals and Yharnam being stated to receive a lot of incoming people looking for treatment via transfusion of the holy blood.
0:18 Yep, that's the one. Good job
And just to throw in my two cents.... battle soundtrack reactions to Ludwig, Maria, and Laurence. Thanks for the fun vids!
An awesome reaction of an awesome fight. I hope once you go through Bloodbornes great ost catalogue, you move onto the other souls games, Sekiro, Dark Souls, and Elden Ring
Actually just filmed a bit for Dark Souls 3! But I'll be slowly finishing off Bloodborne stuff as well 🎶
Not sure if it's a thing in the US, but definitely in Ireland and the UK, father was (and may still be, i'm not sure) commonly used as a catch-all term church-goers would use for Catholic/Anglican priests.
@@Kesskuron That makes sense! And yes, I've heard the term (and used it myself) in my Catholic church for our priest so that could very well be it!
Yeah but... y u no listen to 2nd part of song? Joking - great reaction and thanks for uploading! I'm so glad you listened to the actual song without the visuals though haha as for a moment I thought you weren't gonna listen to the entire thing again 🤣🤣
Honestly I think Bayle, The Dread's transition to second phase in both music and visuals is probably the best in the whole SoulsBourneSekiroRing (lol) series just in terms of spectacle.
Midir and Gael are a close second.
Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame is so good too.
1 - OMG MY COMMENT! (unreasonably hyped)
2 - The reason you can't find her corpse in the video is that she is up the stairs in an area of the arena the player didn't go, you can just make out the sparkling "item" glow that helps you find her behind the tree on the roof of a small mausoleum in some shots.
But a sporting hunt it was." when in human form, playing into his self deception that it's OK to kill the player because they must certainly also be turning into a beast, so are acceptable prey; or in his beast form "Graaawwwerrrghhhaaa!!!" (LOL)
6 - I'm especially looking forward to you watching the Ebrietas : Daughter of the Cosmos boss fight along with that theme. I think seeing the fight really brings more meaning to the choices the composers made.
@@ArgyleR04D So much info in this comment, thank you!!
I think for future videos where I watch the boss fight, I'll start first with music-only and then move onto the battle itself to see if my predictions and observations were correct!
@@TeraCMusic Sounds like a plan! ^_^
@@WilliamPelton-n5m 😰
You should react to gherman the first hunter boss fight, as well as the moon presence. The moon presence is very disturbing, but also is perfect theme music for a being that tricks you into committing infanticide.
A note about the “Father” title, it’s implied through some of the item descriptions and other lore that Father Gascoigne is foreign to the country of Yharnam and that he may be of a different unspecified religion that does use the term Father as a religious title. Why he traveled to Yharnam and got married is never specified to my knowledge
Edit: if you look at his concept art, his attire under the trenchcoat is very reminiscent of a catholic priest’s, even if you barely see it during the fight.
@@IzidioAlex I do have a dedicated video planned for Gwyn's 2 tracks (Lord of Cinder and Soul of Cinder)! What others are there?
@@TeraCMusic So you've already had the biggest spoiler haha.
Another direct and clear connection is between Dark Sun Gwyndolin and Aldritch, Devourer of Gods, but there are some more subtle ones: Centipede Demon/Chaos Witch Quelaag/Bed of Chaos and Old Demon King; Great Grey Wolf Sif/Artorias of the Abyss and Abyss Watchers.
I think you would enjoy the Hyperion fight from RETURNAL. Also the build up leading to it. You're the best!
I can add it to the list! Should I find one that includes Ascend the Spire? I think I saw a few YT vids with that theme in there as well... if you have a good link for me to use, feel free to share it!
@@TeraCMusic Well, I have this one that has the two songs put together: ruclips.net/video/xcW3Fne3x7k/видео.html
And one with gameplay: ruclips.net/video/jV4XwWEBLEA/видео.html
I wish more reactors watch boss fight footage too nott just their ost
There are reasons why this happens. Alienation from the visual allows you to completely focus on the music itself, which is a plus for its perception.
Could you please do this with all the Bloodborne bossfights? Great reaction! Thank you for this!
I'm open to it! Which boss fights would you like to see most?
@@TeraCMusic Would love to see Ludwig, Lady Maria, Gehrman and Living Failures (I think they have the best music)
@@TeraCMusicludwig and gherman are a priority for sure!
Good ol' Father Gatorade
That's a new one 😂
Amazing video!
To add to this, this orchestral music needs to be listened to alone. Just the OST
@@iHaveTheDocuments yeah I think I'd rather listen to just the music first and then watch the boss fight after!
He has two daughters actually.
Edit: Also his name is said in game, it's basically "Gas-coin".
Yeah I mentioned that, I just feel like it's too Americanized of a pronunciation but that's just me haha
She should do for Ludwig too!!!
Check out Bloodborne - Suite by Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra its great😊
Yes correct it's Gas-Coin pretty sure it's an irish name (even the voice actor is Irish). Always amazes me how many people can't pronounce it. Like does nobody remember Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne 🤷
@@grantmilliard6296 Gas-coin just sounds so... Unsophisticated though hahaha

Also im so glad you're checking out bloodborne stuff
So now you realise you have to do a boss fight reaction to all of the previous and future tracks that you react to, right? /s
Hahaha I am open to it, but maybe not for ALL of them... Otherwise it'll take forever to move on from Bloodborne!
epic thx
You should try Dark soules main theme
No just do all of Darksoules 1,2,and 3 all of them
You will get many views and you will learn a lot
My personal favourit is dark eater madir from DS3
@@chikuvyas7917 I've already filmed Parts 1 and 2 for Dark Souls 3! Just in the editing phase now, hoping to get part 1 done for Wednesday!
the game Hollow Knight has some very good music that might be worth reacting to
I have a few tracks from Hollow Knight on my list for my other reaction series (Epic Videogame Violin Solos)!
Hate to say it but big papa G’s wife’s body is not on the ground but she is there waiting to be discovered by the new hunter (I.e you)
For more info, check out short lore videos.
Nice reaction btw
Welp I guess I spent all that time searching for her for nothing then 😅 Glad you still enjoyed the reaction!
You can pick up her Brouch and either give it to their child or use it to be more effective at killing the beasts. She is near one of the corners on the roof of the shed.
But yeah, the best way to learn would be from the hours of content going over the lore for these types of games bc the lore isn't directly told to you, you have to find it yourself
Hey, as a fan of bloodborne try not to pay attention to the toxic side of the community, you do what you think is best for the video and for your channel ok? Fear the old blood ☺❤
