I hate restraints. I suffer from schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, sociopathic intentions, and suicidal thoughts. I was sent to the psyche ward after attempting to harm myself and others around me by picking a fight with random kids in school. I was restrained because I was having a schizophrenic episode. I wouldn’t let them go near me, so they had to get an entire team of doctors. I went into an anxiety attack because i couldn’t see what was going on. They had to give me medicine and I wouldn’t stop moving. I hated every moment of it. I kept crying on how the demons would come for me if I was restrained. I’ve learned how to control my episodes a little better now. It’s still unpredictable though.
I tried to do commit suicide self harm and I was stuck in placement in Norfock to get help I was never in restraint I tried to commit suicide and I would cut
I was tied down about 35 years ago for hour or two(felt much longer) when I was 5 or 6. I just wouldn´t stay in my room during "silent hour". Main nurse lost it after few days and ordered bunch of nurses to tie me while she watched. It wasn´t anything like this. Much more violent procedure. They held me down and put them on with force. There was a lot of crying & screaming, and I had a small panic attack. I cried & begged them to let me go, but they left me all alone. 1-2 hours later she came to ask if I promised to stay in my room from now on. I said yes and she released me. It was only for short time, but was extremely traumatizing. Still remember it vividly. I was in solitary confinement for over an hour during that same visit, before nice nurse let me out after shift change. I had a temper tantrum after parents left me there & threw a toy in anger accidentally hitting a nurse. I was such a danger to others(5 years old! Just give few smacks on the butt & call it a day!). Almost as bad.
Riku Forsström wtf I’d curse that mf nurse out they can’t shut ur mouth up after I got out them retrainnts I would of found a phone and called 911 (at 5-6 I was a bad ass sorry😂)
@@lightskinned2629 I wouldn´t have recommended that. I saw an older kid try that strategy. Nurses grabbed him by his hands & legs, carried him into the "calming room" and tied him up. And then left him in there over night.
The only reason I think a hospital restraining a patient trying to go home is to keep them there to run up the bill. Knowing damn well I couldn't pay and didn't have insurance I signed myself out of a hospital. I took the bus to the ER for kidney stones because I didn't have a vehicle. They wouldn't let me take the bus back home and wanted me to get a ride back home from family. Everyone in my family was too busy so signed myself out.
I got Restrained when HAVING A DENTAL PROCEDURE DONE AT MY LOCAL HOSPITAL I WAS JUST LAYING DOWN IN THE HOSPITAL GURNEY BAD I WAS Completely CALM and relaxed when A NURSE TOOK ME TO ANOTHER ROOM and SHE SUDDENLY RESTRAINED ME WITHOUT EVEN TELLING ME . I WAS PUT INTO A STRAIGHT JACKET AND STRAPPED DOWN TO THE HOSPITAL GURNEY BED. 😂 🤨 it WAS SO WEIRD I’VE NEVER HAD TO BE RESTRAINED BEFORE Even though I DO HAVE BOTH AUTISM and 2 Forms of SEVERE ANXIETY AND SPECIAL NEED’S. I Told my Mom At first she Didn’t Believe me LOL Then Later She Finally Did believe me. 😂
as soon as they grabbed her at the door, thats a BIG nope. always try to get the patient to cooperate first, "ok, you want to see your husband, let's me and you sit down and have a cup of tea while this nurse calls him for you..." don't directly confront a dementia patient, it won't work
Jill Amoroso Yes but sometimes you can try everything like coping techniques and medication but medication doesn’t always work but if the patient is violent they have to try to talk to them first but if that doesn’t they may have to use restraints.
Try being a female in the ER being held down by about 5 male security guards then tied down to the bed for hours. Plus being in a hospital gown that was exposing and having to have the men put a blanket on you. You feel violated and your vulnerable. Having a male sit by your bed and watch you to make sure you don’t hurt yourself. Two hours later, calmed down after being shot with haldol and having to use the bathroom but STILL tied down and forced to use a bed pan in front of the male because there just happens to be no female staff available for some reason. ER staff treat psych patients so bad (at least in my experience).
This is how men are treated every day with female staff. And they are forced to allow sonographers, scrubs, cnas, nurses expose them with female chaperones for them. In restraints or not. Many things are so wrong with our medical establishment.
They restrained one wrist and she got out; they did not secure the vest properly (they just draped it over her and tied the ends to the bed) and she got out, so then they resorted to a sedative? Why did they not just use the restraints properly?
Make sure you put the restraints on a little tight but not too tight and make sure if she doesn't want to the med you can crush it up and feed it to her that way she won't even know she's getting the med maybe that would be a good idea I don't know it's up to you but ask her if she's hungry
I'm not in the medical field, and aware this is a student video, but I know I'd flip out if physically restrained. Is any medication given for agitation/anxiety provoked by physical restraint? Would seem a lot more humane to do so to me.
i cant speak on behalf of them but back when i was in hospital if i was still agitated after a hour of being in a restrain i would be offered medication usually to send me to sleep, in fairness being restrained saved my life. i mean i was stuggling with mental illness so could be different depending on thr situation
mikhail darkwolf I did security in a max security psych hospital. we used 5 point restraints leather locking(1 each arm, 1 each leg, legs crossed, and waist ). face down. yes sedatives were or could be used. but laws are different in different settings.
That’s is so right meds should be use instead of being tied down being tied down is scary and not a good thing I know one would tie me down and I won’t let anyone get tied down
Thanks for your comment, but this video was made by nursing students, we had to do a teaching project and my group decided to do it thru a video instead of using powerpoints and handouts.
I was retrainted for no damn reason at the hospital because I have an allergic reaction to some medications and the person putting in the med thru the iv didn’t listen to me so I got anexiety and started kicking...10mins later my throat started closing and all I know is the person got fired
I wish the nurses were that caring and that concerned and nice and real life in most hospitals they are but some hospitals there or not I wish they were in all the hospitals I was all hospital said good reputations 🙂😉
silentfades dude I was raped by my father didn’t tell anyone for depressed and started trying to kill myself u don’t know how much pain I was in I’m 15 stfu this is for minors who’s parents don’t go to the hospital with them or to the sike hospital
I think you put your restraints because you were pissed off at the patient. Things done to a patient are always for the staff never for the patient's benefit. Stop lying.
IF THE DOCTOR ORDERS RESTRAINTS HE'S SETTING THE NURSES FOR A FAST TRIP TO PRISON FOR THE MAXIMUM OF 15 YEARS OR THE MINIMUM OF 5 YEARS DEPENDING ON THE FELONY I'VE MADE IT CLEAR TO THE HOSPITAL STAFF AT NO TIME ARE RESTRAINTS TO BE USED ON ME.
And having worked in a mental health facility, I can tell you, act out with intent to hurt yourself or others, and the least restrictive alternatives will be employed. Should you continue, hospital is required to use whatever means necessary to prevent you from harming self or others. If that is physical or chemical restraints, the Dr writes the order and it's applied. You cannot sue because at that time, you are not mentally capable of acting in your own best interest.
The name of the patient according to the intro note is Ms. Karen. This explains the entire film

The ‘patient’ had VERY bad acting I couldn’t stand to finish the video.

“You got out again?”
“Yes, I don’t like those things.”

No person should be put through this 😓☹️😲😬🤯
there should be meds before restraints. restraints are traumatizing for the individual in them.
RecoveryJill Amoroso exactly. I hated restraints.
Jill Amoroso ...its physical restraint not chemical restraint..in chemical restraint we use medicine

Nah just us ketamine. In fact use it for everything like wash the dishes , Walk the dog , etc. AND REMBER KIDS VIOLENCE IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER.
Amazing!!!

Synthia Ciampanelli sounds exactly what i had to go thru:((
I can relate to that
Had very similar experience. I cant believe this kind of treatment isnt against our civil rights.

You poor girl. Why don't you sue them. You should not have to be exposed to men. I would get a lawyer.

To funny
never saw such a big nurse
Rude
Approaching the patient loudly yelling her name would most definitely agitate the patient. Very bad training for the nurses.
