Some beautiful coins Rob. It's a shame on those so called cleaned coins, but still all genuine coins. Back in the early 1970s, I worked for a guy who cleaned all this coins before putting them in the cash register. I never thought cleaning coin was wrong, till I joined the community. Thank you Rob!!
The luster looks a bit off to me, it should be swirling around two circles in the center of the coin, not around the entire coin like it does in the video (but I'm certainly not an expert and I only got coins graded once).
I remember watching a documentary show years ago about a casino that would wash its coins. I always think of that when I see clad halves with nice bright edges and halo effects around Kennedy.
They should send you something to support their determination of cleaning. Maybe plotting like they do with diamonds so you know specifically why they made their determination. Thanks for the video!
There are probably as many amature (ie kids or old timers still rubbing baking soda) as there proficient collectors. In a way, be thankful, it drives up value and makes the hunt frustratingly satisfying.
Nice results! On the 1941 Walker. compare the look of that to genuine mint luster on a high grade certified Walker. You can see that the shine on that one is "flat" and doesn't have original cartwheel luster, which is a sure sign of a cleaning - that's why it got the details grade.
Wow, those grades are TOUGH! PCGS is being a bunch of grinches this time of year! Sorry you got so many back as ungradeable but I still loved the video Rob!

They all are absolutely beautiful in my eyes especially the 1909 vdb that I can only dream of finding at this point lol Thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏻👊🏻
I had a 1879-S ANACS MS64 that I sent to PCGS with a few other coins for a cross over that upgraded to a 65. However, the other coins didn't cross over with the min grade I put on them. Thanks for another video. Before you flipped the 1909-S VDB over, my first guess was environmental damage looking seeing some stuff on the reverse. I believe you could get PCGS to restore that coin, if it would have a high enough grade and value it would be worth doing. Sometimes they can remove environmental type stuff and "questionable color" from coins.
Funny thing. When they are in an ANACS, PCGS, or NGC holder with a "Details" designation, that turns them into 'Problem Coins'. However, if those SAME coins (raw) are in a Dansco or Whitman Album, they are magically problem free and part of a great collection. That is/was the "old fashioned" way of coin collecting. The TPGS companies have conditioned us into thinking that their slabs are the only way to go these days........................

Damn they continue to make me scratch my head. I sent off a 1878-S with a few gnarly contact marks on the reverse but besides that the original luster was so intact and the high points on obverse were all so flawless that I decided to give it a go and it got a 64. Then the 1886 I sent in that I was honestly expecting a 65 without a doubt because it was just a solid strike and cartwheeled like I've never seen got a 63 😂it's like it depends on who's working that day or something. Beautiful coins. Great video. That 1879-S is a banger bro. What a strike. The relief on her profile is killer.
Quick question so the double dies on the memorial pennies and small and large dates and all of that, would they be obvious to see under a microscope or a magnifying glass
PCGS has been going through some internal problems, they are owned by Collector's Universe who just sold the two grading departments. I am studying for the grading test, it is not easy. But you always learn something anywhere you study. Cleaning is determined by lust characteristic values. All cleaning devalues coins; and can be as simple as wiped with a soft cloth. Original luster can be remove even by careless storage, (grandpa's underwear drawer or a box made with acid paper). There's a mini dip process also that changes luster. I think you got a fair Valuation this time around. As always, a great video. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄❤
It would be interesting if PCGS did proof like and distinguished which side. Could be PLO, PLR, or PLOR(PLB?PLD?). Just an idea I think would be really cool to further distinguish coins from one another.
never had a coin graded before, when using PCGS do you submit your coins with a grade you would give it then pay for it to get possibly proof like? or is it 1 fee for everything?
The coins are beautiful. PCGS has been super tough of late. Lots of coins coming back with Genuine Not Gradable designations. Sorry for the misses, but that MS66 is soooo gorgeous.
Just found your channel. Surprised you didn't mention what reverse you had on the 1879-S Morgan. 2nd reverse worth way more than the 3rd reverse. Appeared yours was the 2nd reverse but couldn't get a great look on the video. My Red Books says the 2nd reverse of the 1879-S in MS65 is worth $5,500!!!
Another awesome and very informative video! What do you do with ungraded coins still in slabs? Do you take them out or just leave them in the plastic forever?
Is it possible the grading company does chemical test to detect detergents and such to see if coins have been clean? Have you ever considered taking them out and RESUBMITTING? There are no SN# on the coins they would have no idea they looked at them before. I know it is expensive, but I am curious to see if you would get a different grade on a resubmission.
On the 81 S. Even if they are proof like looking. And clearly has strong mirrors. They still won’t put as pl. MS64 Whisker Cheek Peace Dollar. Niiiiiiiiice! Only a few graded higher. That's a good find and a good grade for that. I like that 1878-S too! Pretty coin. You got hosed on the Kennedy. I agree with you... why would anybody clean a 71 half and then throw it back? They wouldn't. Any coin that gets a Fine grade has environmental damage, so really? Really????. That's a crazy way to grade that coin. PCGS strikes again... no grade, no explanation. Hard to swallow that kind of business practice.

Who cleans clad half dollars??
MS64 Whisker Cheek Peace Dollar. Niiiiiiiiice! Only a few graded higher. That's a good find and a good grade for that. I like that 1878-S too! Pretty coin. You got hosed on the Kennedy. I agree with you... why would anybody clean a 71 half and then throw it back? They wouldn't. Any coin that gets a Fine grade has environmental damage, so really? Really????. That's a crazy way to grade that coin. PCGS strikes again... no grade, no explanation. Hard to swallow that kind of business practice.
Where do u go to find and get the morgan silvers
