    Now that's how you make an instructional video. No nonsense/pain in the ass honesty/no unnecessary BLAHBLAHBLAH and little tips that eliminate getting ur teeth knocked out. ThankYou Jim.

    Just looking for ideas on how to get a second bolt out of the rear strut. You skipped it. . evidently the hardest part of the job If you don't have the right tool . I was able to get it with a 6 inch extension coming down from the top.

    I don't know bout picking your teeth up off of the floor but I almost lost 2 fingers a few years ago by loosening the piston rod nut while holding the spring. I knew better but my mind was on something else at the time I guess. I was so embarrassed I completed the job with 2 broken and mangled fingers. Do it yourselfers need to know that compressed coil springs can be very dangerous. Great job as usual, Jim.

      +wysetech2000 Thank you for your input.I thought that maybe i should have taken out the part about picking up you teeth but judging by the response it was good that I left it in.

    thanks, that helped a lot.. however, i wish you would have listed what tools you used to get to the bolts in the trunk.. it looked like you used maybe 2 swivels and had some clearance in the rear.. but it was hard to see.

    Warning was right the first time b/c that spring will cause injury or death like the warning tag states so if someone does take the bearing plate strut nut off holding the spring tension there's no telling where that will end up. You were right about the rear nuts being a PITA but they are easier to get to than a lot of cars you have to dismantle just to get to the tower nuts. Nice video Jim!

      No b/c they need to understand that spring can kill so if all it does is knock your teeth out then you should consider yourself very luck. I've seen the damage to a concrete wall when a spring compressor arm broke & it'll get your attention really fast and we all were thankful nobody got hurt plus we told the service manager at the time to never let a certain mechanic near a coil spring again...LOL

    Hey Jim, I'm having an issue putting in rear Quick Struts on my Maxima of the same vintage. The 2 studs up top aren't aligned correctly like the originals so I can't get the bottom through bolt to fit. Outside of compressing the springs and reorienting the strut mount, I can't think of a way to align everything. So much for "quick" struts...
    Have you encountered such an issue before?

    good and informative video. I have just acquired a 2000 Q45 , does a lot of side to side movement on the highway a CX real slush bucket and so far I suspect struts, I pumped up the tires so what else, right? but my other cars are 72, 70 and 75, comet, coronet and Econoline. this looks easier than I thought but wow! struts are craaaazy expensive, and not even available for the Q45 2000. 1300 for a set?? the car ain't barely worth that..then labor is what it is.

    Excellent video however my struts seem to be just a bit hard to get back in place,and is resting on the boot.How do I compress the strut to line it up or do I need to loosen something else to get the bottom bolts in?

    • @jimthecarguy
      @jimthecarguy  7 лет назад

      Usually when you remove the bolts from the strut you can push down the lower control arm with a long pry bar

    I have a 1998 Infinity I30. Struts have never been replaced. 163k miles on it now. Should I replaced them?

    • @jimthecarguy
      @jimthecarguy  7 лет назад

      That is a lot of miles.Are the struts leaking?Is there a lot of rust?

    • @desperado77760
      @desperado77760 7 лет назад

      no, I don't think there are any leaks or rust. seems to still ride well but, as I posted on another of your vids, the car has always pulled to the left. Alignments are always good but the driver side rear axle is "off" a little. I'm thinking I have to have the frame straightened or the rear links replaced. Or could be a strut was slightly bent on the rear? No one has been able to figure it out. I think it's "dog tracking".

    • @jimthecarguy
      @jimthecarguy  7 лет назад

      Scott L if the car is dog tracking then there must be a problem. Was the car in an accidents? The alignment shop should check to make sure that the left and right side are exactly the same length from the front to the rear

    • @desperado77760
      @desperado77760 7 лет назад

      yes, it had been wrecked before I bought it. Alignments always result if a reading that says the drivers side rear axle is slightly off. No one seems to know what to do about it. I notice at higher speeds it drives better 70 to 85mph. 50 to 70 seems the worst. Since the struts have never been replaced, I thought it might be a good place to start along with the rears links and then straighten the frame or ? axle?
