- Hear this tune played with guitar rhythm backup (slow, medium, fast) starting at 20:34. Guitar chords are provided on-screen. This tune is also an excellent chord-changing exercise for guitar.
This is an instructional tutorial 5-string bluegrass banjo lesson teaching the popular fiddle tune instrumental "Blackberry Blossom," first recorded by Fiddlin' Arthur Smith in 1935 and since has become a staple for fiddlers and banjoists alike. It was popularized for melodic banjo by the late, great Bill Keith in the 1960's.
On this video I teach my (mostly) melodic version of the tune lick by lick, phrase by phrase, using on-screen tablature, then I put it together -- slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding rhythm guitar audio overlay and on-screen guitar chords.
This tune is traditional and in the Public Domain.
Free tab and play-along tracks at different speeds are available at my website, littlerockbanjo.com.
Hope you enjoy. This could be an nice addition to your banjo repertoire. Видеоклипы

Hi Bill - You know, most of the tunes I've learned so far, I learned from your site. I am so appreciative of your generosity for offering these tunes for free, and you've definitely gotten me off on the right foot. Thank you so much! Tom Patterson - Seattle, WA

I have just discovered your RUclips stuff! Thanks for all the hard work and very informative material you share with all of us want to be banjoist. I now understand the difference between (single string)? and melodic a little more. I practice more now because of all your material you share.......THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you sir! Can't wait to give this a try. Really enjoy your videos and selections.
OK, this one's going to be a "little" more challenging than some of your others. ;-)
Do you think you could add "take me home country road" in your website ? Thanks to you from France ! Learning banjo with your tutorials is pure delight !!!
can you play Down by the riverside.for your next video ?
U r my teacher from now on lol
Bill, first, thanks for being here for us. Your willingness to put this and other songs out for us banjo picker wannabees is greatly appreciated. Second, a couple of questions: where’s your speed now on this one? Time and practice will hopefully get me to this
ruclips.net/video/jI4xBe5MTjg/видео.html
in the future, but I’m having a hard time capturing what the banjo guy is picking to do the runs on the last Part B he goes through before the song ends. Any chance your more educated ear can pull it out? Thanks again, Bill.
I'd say a pretty good speed would be in the 240 range. That's about what Bill Keith (who first played it back in the mid-'60's) was playing it at in a RUclips video I found of him and Darol Anger playing it at a wedding. Of course it can go faster, but I'm good with what Keith did.
williamanesbitt Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll look for that video now. Practicing and standing by for your next lesson.

Great song. Cannot seem to find the tab on your site. Do you have a link? Thanks
Front page, right under the video.
IE prevented navigation of the website. chrome was fine
I got it to load using IE 11... slower, but worked.
Your site is great your hard work and generous sharing is appreciated. I worked on a few licks tonight and really like melodic style that incorporates partial scales with full rolls. As long as I can get access LOL
How can I get the tab for this, while taking the lesson is great, I’d also like to have the tab to practice from.
littlerockbanjo.com... long about the middle of the page. Link is underneath the video.
I still can not see a downloadable pdf form for this. I see your lesson, but it looks like I will have to write the tab out as you show it measure by measure. On page two of your web site I see a number of songs/lessons with the pdf file beneath that you can download, but this song isn’t on that page. I can’t get any further than two pages of your web site.
Maybe I need to access your web site from a computer, rather than my iPad.
love it, but i cant see the download tab link.
www.littlerockbanjo.com/ 5th one down the page.
