Bro I saw you play with Animosity at a small legion hall in CT back in 06’ or 07’ ....shit was fucking EPIC but the crowd was mostly hxc so they didn’t know the deal...was standing like 5 feet away on the side of your kit, couldn’t believe your precision and how relaxed you were while blasting...props forever and man watching this vid now in 2018 you are way tighter and more insane than ever...RESPECT!
What a badass this man is. Opinions are like assholes! Everybody's got one. This one's mine. A badass guitarist as well. The passion and dedication is second to none. Don't ever stop. You are a natural motivator. And that's how it works for those who want to as Devo once said "Go Forward, Move ahead"
Okay, I know I'm late in the comments, but I've watched this video so many times, and I've recently heard the ep version of this song......... you're playing just fascinates me!!! Keep it up my boi!!!👍🤟🎵📻
EthT i was actually going to ask what he was using as a ride. so is it just a14 or 15 inch ho hat? sounds good super pingy and cuts right through everything with little resonance.
Probably triggers. There is triggers setting tutorials everywhere on RUclips. I am a bit late but just letting you know if you didn't figure it out in 2 years since you commented.
@@AlexNourse52 "100% unedited acoustic drums. No triggers or sound replacement" is in the intro and description. Probably just really nicely tuned brand new skins and meticulous mic placement.
@@AlexNourse52 Yea actually its all in the tech list. The smaller 18" diameter shell, the dampening skin, and the mic. All makes for a real nice tight sound. The more I look in to this video and setup, the more impressive the drum kit tone really is.
The mic does a lot and in this case, it's a D6. I did see a demo a while back of the Miktek PM11 and it's the only mic I've heard that sounded better to me than the D6 for this type of application. Other than what's already been suggested, a cool trick for getting a similar sound to this is cutting out a big triangular piece from an old batter and duct taping it in the center of a new batter (I'm pretty sure I saw this on an old video of Inferno with Behemoth). Mind you when I did this, I'd been sold the wrong head by a guy who had no idea what he was talking about and had no choice. My usual go-to heads are clear powerstrokes and black suede emperors which give tons of click. This guy sold me a single ply EMAD. No amount of muffling or EQing with my D6 or 91a could get my 20x20 Saturn kick to sound anything but like a boomy Bonham kick. So I tried adding a "second ply" and it changed the sound completely. I only wonder what it would sound like on one of my regular go-to heads!
Using an Audix D6 will go a long way toward getting you a similar sound. I knew that mic was used before I looked at the description. Plastic beaters will make the drum itself more clicky.
Matt - I've gotten something similar with an Evans E-Mad2 on a 24x16, with no dampening (blankets or pillows) for the low end and a modified Danmar click pad (kinda the same material that fiber drum cases are made from) and wooden beaters for the click. Definitely has a different feel though & you don't want to bury the beater with that set up or it will sound sloppy. Covering the hard part of the disc with a black Evans Bass drum patch will improve the feel, but you'll lose some of the click.
you're a very good player, I have some constructive criticism to bring you to the next level :) if you switch you dynamic range up where you are playing your Drums louder and your cymbals at lower volume (similar to a mix) it translates better to the average listener. ie look at top pros and their main articulation is though the Drums themselves especially kick and snare and cymbals act as cues for musical changes in the melody. I hope that is a clear explanation of the concept. keep it up you're playing really well!
I really dig his playing. His blast beats are really clean and powerful.

How does he even remember the drum parts for Animosity songs ? I genuinely want to know.
I love that I can hear the technical death metal, progressive djent metal with math metal blast beats, chops and fills. So sick.
Using a hi hat bottom as a ride... is this a common thing I'm just now learning about, or just Navene genius? Sounds awesome for blasts.
Hands down, one of my favorite drum performances ever
HOLY FUCK... you're one sick drummer!!! Drums sound fantastic too!
Super cool Navene! Primal is my favorite song by you guys!! and youre definetly my main inspiration and influence for drumming
You are the king of 0 fucks to give when it comes to what cymbals you use
actually seems like he cares a whole lot. he's using a wide variety of series from meinl to get the sounds he wants
There's a little space in between giving a fuck and not giving a fuck, they're almost the same thing
Truth
dunnno if he cares becuase he getz the cymbal setups by mail for free^^
but fuck the cymbals, xD this guy is just fucked haha xD a crazy freak =D
Goosebumps. Still, every time. (bows to Koperweis)
that snare is sick. ive gotta get me one like right now!
The fill at the break at 1:47 when the parts change is so perfect. Super creativity all around!
God i love this drummer, Entheos rips so hard
This is still one of my favorite songs/ep's
Thank you for this cover, it's sick I didn't know you were in animosity💜
It's not a cover!! Original you fool
It's nice to see the variation in his cymbals
Amazing playing how the hell haven't you got more subscribers.love the flesh wrought album you done a while back.ive subscribed.👍🏻
Dude when you are doing those blast beats, it looks like the drum wizard casting a spell. So sick.

I can't stop watching this shit. It's fucking fresh man.
The last minute of this song is insane
That drumming is sheer power
Yay! I found a new cool band!💪
pure joy
how can someone not like this? and using a hit bottom as a ride is just 100% boss
Sounds very good yeah ... I also like the slight variations in comparison to the studio version.
awesome
Navene is such a god, i really wish he stayed in animals as leaders. Matt is cool, but navene just writes such unique patterns
Goddamn dude, you are excellent behind the kit. Shit, I really got to work on my playing
Ohhhhhh... What a genius...
Absolutely fucking INSANE
Шедевр!
METAL FOREVER!
Curious as to why u use the highhat bottom instead of a ride. Save space? sounds pretty good surprisingly
Saves space and is basically the same pitch as a mega bell ride. Also looks cool imo
EthT i was actually going to ask what he was using as a ride. so is it just a14 or 15 inch ho hat? sounds good super pingy and cuts right through everything with little resonance.
Dan Mcknight 15 inch hi hat. I agree, it does cut
Isn't that what the Giga Bell is for? Too bad those things go for like 600+
I think he usually uses an extreme metal ride
By far one of my favorite drummers along with Blake Richardson of Between The Buried and Me.
I just noticed he doesn't have a rack tom
I couldn't hit the thumbs up more than once :(
Yes
nice kit
Navene and Evan should do a fucking The Faceless reunion!!
How many times a day do you change your drum setup? I miss your big obnoxious ride.
Porkay i have never heard of this before? why? i watch MTV every day
mtv is still around?
savage!
How did he tune that snare? I have the same snare and mine is badly different from his.
All I can say is: damn.
i have the same snare and head. still sounds like ass hahaha how the hell do you get that sound!!?
Fucking sick
Fuck yeah.
What do you use to get your bass drum sounding like that?
Probably triggers. There is triggers setting tutorials everywhere on RUclips. I am a bit late but just letting you know if you didn't figure it out in 2 years since you commented.

@@mrwhite604 yes probably, it sounds very "clicky" though. But there is ways to do that.

Can you upload a mix with the vocals?
how are you getting that "clicky" sound with your bass drum with out a trigger? im trying to get that click sound on my bass drum as well

mAtt drmmer he uses quite a small bass drum. Check into getting like an 18 or 20. I'm pretty sure Rudy switched to a 20 for some time
mAtt drmmer 18 is pushing it tho lol id really hone down on a 20 and find a sweet spot

This is a replica of the legendary 'Tomas Haake'..
Hi man, I'm a big fan. Any advices to get my snare to sound like that? hell, that shit is lit!
Tight top head bottom somewhat loose
@@dekeferrell7265 right bottom and right top
That slp big black steel tho

2:21-2:38 = holy fucking balls
gavé bien
Best face at 2:46 if you pause lol
I wanna know why there are 2 dislikes on this video.
Joseph Chester maybe lars_ulrich and ulrichlars27
Chevy Dune would be proud
So, an amazing sounding recording was achieved with no samples, triggers, or evidently microphones? Hmmmm...
all im saying is,..pffff,....nevermind..
Good God dude. Ridiculous.....
Such a weird sounding snare for this type of music. At least IMO.
Please somebody give him a better drum set. PLEASE
Sunbeom Kim what's wrong with this one?
