Great car. Agent 001 was correct when he said BMW lost a lot of traditional buyers (like myself) with the current Bangle style. I've been driving my '98 540 for the past 10+ years and have been waiting for a more traditional style Ultimate driving machine to replace the current model. Well I think BMW has delivered with the 2011 model. I give it 9 out of 10. In order to give it a 10, I'd like to see sportier wheels and an M package front bumper.
I drive the current 5 series. At first I didn't like it but I get comments everyday regarding the looks. I have the sports pack option which gives it a different look. In fact it's more individual than what I see in the pictures.
@Autospies: Did you see any 5 series with Shadow-line trim? coz all i see is silver lining around the windows -- which looks really tacky when you tint ....... plz let me know -- thanks
@edge160 well if u have not seen the dimentions... the new 5er is bigger thn e in width and length. It is more spacious. I jus visited bmw dealership and merc dealership as i m deciding to buy one of e350 and 535 . Well the interior is way better in 5er jus look at both of em at the same time n u would notice it too. Plus the performance is better in 535 as well as 550 as compared to e350 n e550. I thing the front end of the merc is better but all the other aspects of 5er are better.
@edge160 k... ikno this wud never end... but let me correct u... 0-60 is 5 in bmw 5.3 in merc.. bmw has 8speed sports transmission which is one of the best ever. Ride WAS harsh in last 5er but this one is much better...bmw has better seats... and a great interior...
it looks like the old 3series. . . just bigger, and its got an old jaguar bonnet. -be interested how different it looks when it comes back from the M devision.
@mickey20009 Im based in Australia - not available here yet but the GT is. It comes round June. The price for the 535 will be approx $150,000! It's become too expensive. For the 525 around $120,000
@MrJackanthony jut lease it, you can always have the new generation, in terms of maintaining, its easy, but the price of the parts may put you away. I have heard there are many unnecessary parts to replace sometimes on a beemer.
i like this 5. it looks like a BMW and not some kind of deformed hedgehog or something. and the inside looks amazing. one thing though, and this is for all cars, I dont really like the keyless go tech. Oddly enough, im not to lazy to pull a key from my pocket, press a button, then put it in the igniation and turn it...
This is the best looking bmw in recent years !!!! Back is too much lexus alike ... I want to see black one, lowered on 19's with sport package and tan interior Best 5series was and always be E34 !!
I think this new 5-Series looks too soft. I test drove a white 2010 MB E-550 two weeks ago and it was great. Only had a few small complaints with the E-Class, but I think it looks better then the new 5-Series. Its just my opinion, but BMW and MB both make great cars.
@tenergyforce hey i have the current e60, i think bangle did a great job, considering the 7 series was the best selling 7-series ever, and i have to say this new one is not as eye- catching, neighbor owns one, hate the black grill, but i still see flame surfacing just like bangle. The only thing that i wished that stayed, is the more difference of looks between the cars, because it makes each series more noticable. every man is entitled to his opinion
Didn't bought this car because of the style. I loved the old one, but this has lost character... I bought a new Jaguar xj instead, and I'm happy I did it. Much better car!
@rockrocks009 The seats are very uncomfortable in the 550i with a sort of unnatural feel in the lower back. Acceleration is the same for 550i and E550, so they are equal in performance. I got to admit handling is much better on the BMW, but for same price as 550i I get 4-matic trans and air suspension on the E550. Ride is just too harsh on BMW. AMG body kit on E550 is also much sportier than the stock BMW one.
@rockrocks009 I've driven a bmw x5 for 7 years and must say bmw has gotten uglier these years. IMO the old x5 is much better looking than new x5s. In fact, I have seen the new 5-series in person and it looks like a slightly larger 3-series. Everyone has a 3-series and driving the new 5-series would look like another 3-series on the road. The new E550 has stock AMG body kit and wheels which is much sportier and interior is of higher quality.
@edge160 Range Rover? That BRICK? For $40K over the 5-series, it should be better. Too bad RR hasn't touched the design in almost a decade. Maybe it's because the company is owned by Tata, who makes AIR cars in India. Can't expect much styling from the Indians, they're still in the last century. The BMW X5 will run circles around the RR brick, and for $30K less.

Chris Bangle updated with the e60. This styling is a big STEP BACKWARD. So, the BMW snobs that loved their old cars yelled and screamed enough to make BMW listen to their conservative rants. Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it. Boring.
Simply boring. I love BMW's but the designs are getting boring. Especially the interiors. Audi and Mercedes make the best interiors, but BMW makes the best engines IMO>

The front end is taken from a 10 year old Volvo S40 (in other words, ugly - please open up a side/side window and compare for yourself). The back end is taken from the boxed-out Lexus IS250. So, let me ask the youtube experts... did you ever think you would see the day when a tier 1 car was aping tier 2 cars? Sad. That's what you get when you try to appeal to everyone... boredom.
always like the old school bmw's. then came the chris bangle era who just ruined the progression. this new bmw just doesn't do anything for me. this styling could of did something 8 years ago but this styling is boring. why do bmw's always have ugly looking factory rims?

Actually the new 5 series' front face reminds me of a Hammer shark whereas the new 3 series' front face looks like a white shark!
