    What is the best investment you have ever made? It does tot necessarily need to be a monetary investment (a book, new habit, relationship, etc).

      Buying a house in Leon (GTO). It was 2005 and I was living in CDMX and did so until 2010 but the fact that I already had a place to live in Leon made it easier to decide to move as I had been planning for many years.

      Interesting question...
      best financial investment = buying stock in Nvidia (NVDA)
      best intellectual investment = going to college
      best well-being investment = getting married and having a child.
      Thanks for another great video. I love your practical videos. Keep up the good work!

    How wonderful to have Luis to show you around. I rode the Metro on the way to Puebla with my friend who was from Puebla. He came and met me at my hotel in CDMX and off we went to his mom's house in Puebla for a few days. It was cool. I don't think I would have any problems getting around. All metros work on the same idea with the maps and lines of different colors. If you just watch the map and pay attention to the stops, it's all good. Another great day in the big city. You won't run out of things to do.

    • @kinetickennons
      @kinetickennons  7 лет назад +1

      That is the way to do it, have a friend go with you once and then you go it. I think the worse system I have ever used is Dallas. I felt more unsafe on that train than I did here!

    Buenos dias Goyo y Guera. I stumbled on your videos a few weeks ago and you guys got me hooked on your adventures both in Vallarta (where I hope to retire some day) and Mexico city (btw. I was born and raised in Mex city). And I just wanted to tell you that Im happy to see a young couple like yourselves that are living and experiencing Mexico with appreciation for the people and the culture. I am happy to see that you guys have nothing but nice things to say about our culture, specially at a time when there's certain hate and resentment towards Mexicans and Latinos in general in the US. I have a couple video suggestions. I don't know if you have done a video about the cab drivers in Puerto Vallarta that drive like crazy and put lives at risk (we always tell them we aren't in a hurry) and also the buses which can also be a ride matching any roller coaster at six flags. How about some videos of Pitillal? Anyways. Keep up the good work you guys. You guys are awesome (I love la guera's humor).P.S. While we are a country that has a lot to offer when it comes to culture and stuff. We are also a country ridden with violence, so don't be so trusting of people. Always trust your instincts. Adios.

    This is unreal to me.😂. I never ever do the touristic thing in Mx City but this weekend I packed my bags from Cuernavaca and did some awesome sightseeing of the city with a friend visiting from the U.K. We took the same metro station you guys are showing here (Hidalgo) this afternoon (Tuesday) and I hadn’t taken the Mexico City subway in ages so it was fun. I get home to Cuernavaca and I click to this video of yours and you’re showing all the places we visited yesterday and today around the Hidalgo, Reforma, Barrio Chino and El Caballito areas. That’s crazy!😋 Thank you! Please keep showing us more💓😘 “!Hola Luis!”

    Mexico City subway system is one of the cheapest and fastest ways to move around the city, when I used to live there, I had a car and sometimes preferred to ride on the metro than drive my car, quicker and cheaper. agree with you is way toooooo crowded, especially in rush hours. Last time I went to CDMX, I remember I was in Hidalgo and had to go to Miguel Ángel de Quevedo (Line 3 or green) took like 20 minutes, but I felt like a canned sardine..lol. Also I agree with you is way more cleaner than NYC subway system. Avoid to use it with wearing expensive things, lots of cash, don’t have have a wallet, have the cash need it for the day, or a se it card, in case you find a pick pocket, other than that, is safe. Happy riding

  • @Vancouver_Dan
    @Vancouver_Dan 7 лет назад +4

    Great video! Tips: if I remember correctly, the card machine does not give change - so only put into the machine what you want loaded onto the card. Two: if you use tickets instead, you can buy your return ticket at the same time that you buy your first ticket - so you only have to line up once. I grew up in a subway town (Toronto Canada) and CDMX is the same easy to navigate concept - all trains on the platform go to the same end station. I have trouble in other cities - like NYC and SF - where some trains on the platform have different destinations.
    One thing someone in CDMX told me - middle and upper class Mexicans do not use the subway (as a general rule). I am not sure if this is the case. Let us know what you learn.

    Another amazing app that works globally and is very handy for navigating metro systems is “Citymapper.” I lived in the UK and traveled throughout Europe using this app. When I returned to LA, I wasn’t sure it would work here and it did! The big plus...the app has every city’s metro map loaded onto it so if you want to reference the full metro map, you don’t have to find it in the station-it’s in your phone!!

    Great video! I agree with y'all the Mexico city metro is very efficient. I've used the subway in Paris, London, Barcelona, NYC, Philly, LA and other cities. In my opinion Paris and London have the best systems but Mexico city it's almost as efficient but they can't compete with value, it's way cheaper than any other city.

    • @kinetickennons
      @kinetickennons  7 лет назад +2

      That's really interesting. We have only used NYC so we don't have a very good perspective on different systems. I honestly didn't know that LA even had one! haha

    Whenever you try the subway again, try Insurgentes station, but before watch “Total Recall” on Netflix with Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1989 ...many of the scenes where recorded there and you can see the Mexico City subway and station there, it’s cool when you point out little pop culture places ...or the other day when you were in that big horse statue dedicated to the Spanish king, just next door the yellow building in the corner is the one destroyed in the movie “Specter” with James Bond from 2015 and that area in general.

    Hey guys! I'm a long time fan but I guess this is the first time I left my comment, I live in Mexico City and obviously I'm just excited with all your new videos, I'm pretty sure by this time you must have an idea of all the spot lights of the city so my recommendation it's about an APP called CITY MAPPERS, I used it on my ny trip and it was very helpful, I'm totally agree with la güera when she says subway seems to be more efficient in long distance and actually this app suggest you trips like, metro and uber in order to save time and money, it's also the only app I know who help you with bus lines, because bus lines are not as easy to use for foreigners as metro or metro bus. Anyway hope you'll enjoy your México city's experience

    I used to take the metro a lot (have a car now) and it can get very crowded. Be prepared for people pushing to get in and having no room to move. You have to prepare to push to get out at your stop sometimes. It gets very interesting lol but it definitely takes much longer taking a car anywhere and finding parking can be a pain so that's the benefits to the metro.

    Wow, the subway in México is very efficient and cheap and probably the fastest way to move around the city, on the upside, it has stops at both sothern and northern bus stations, as well as the airport or nearby the airport, On the down side, it´s crowded and sometimes dangerous, so try to plan your trip ahead and don´t use it on rush hours. , In my personal opinion it´s way better and newer than NYC subway system, On the other hand Metrobus runs along Insurgentes Avenue, which is one of the longest in the world, and from Reforma heading south, you´ll find very cool and nice places where to eat, and spend time, including the Insurgentes Theatre, another Icon of the city, as well as Poliforum Siqueiros, and The WTC,, you have to visit the rotating Restaurant on top of the WTC, amazing place, ..... uffff I guess 3 months is not going to be enough time to visit the whole city hahaha, anyways have a great week and can´t wait for your next video, greetings

    Love your video showing scenes of the Mexico City Metro; especially like seeing you guys learning how to cope with it. Isn't it cool that the first two cars of trains during rush hours are reserved for women and children? Groping of women and girls was seen as such a problem, that the best solution was deemed to simply block off the first two cars, with police help, for those considered vulnererable. Which brings me to another memory: how many ways have you seen problems being 'solved' in ways different from the United States while in Mexico City? Since the population makes it a country in its own right, what have you guys seen displaying ways of solving problems, or maximizing good things (opportunities?) while in DF so far? Maybe the question is too soon to be answered. Also, haven't you noticed how civil people are (mostly, haha, I could tell you some stories!) while riding the Metro. I live in Chicago and far fewer people ride the trains here, but the train-rides often seem like sleeping with one eye open a lot. I don't remember feeling that undercurrent of fear while riding the trains in DF. Your metro video brings back a lot of memories because I spent a lot of my time taking the train somewhere to do stuff. Because of an overcharging experience my third day in DF, I didn't trust taxis anymore, but at least I understood why I was seen as a walking wallet by some - life is harder there and opportunism is human. But still I love the place and want to go back badly .......

      yes-it is really nice that the metro cars are reserved for women and children only! And that is such a great question but one that we do not have a solid answer for. (thank goodness!) We have not really witnessed much conflict in the United States or Mexico actually so it is hard to know how things would be handled differently in the two. Yes-people have been super kind to us so far! People in both Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City have been so very welcoming!

    You went to a metro in a very populous area. The poorest neighboorhood, the busiest the subway. I took it from Juanacatlan to Chapultepec in the 80s and it was pleasant.

    You CAN buy the cards in the underground subway stations. The cards went into circulation before metrobus existed if I remember correctly. You should check out the Metro museum, it's quite new it's inside Line 12 Mixcoac station.

    Im from a small town in Baja California, Ensenada, and the first time i had to learn to use the metro, the hardest thing for me was to know which exit was the closest to my destination and how to find it. Knowning the name of the closest exit once ive arrived to the closest station to my house wouldve saved me having to cross a bridge, a park and a very crowded market. So definetely ask a cop or metro service clerk which is the best exit to get to where youre going and how to get to it.

      Oh and also security measures in the metro if it's crowded like wearing you backpack on the chest and youre phone and wallet inside of it or in your hand. Also for girls of you wanna avoid getting whistled on or harrased wear earphones even if youre not listening to anything

    for two people who go on and on about how safe Mexico City is, I think you just made people terrified to take the subway. I have used it many times, I flew into Mexico City at 10 at night and walked to the subway and went to where I needed to go, be confident, know your destination , and go. I never had or saw a problem, they are friendly people, exercise the same degree of caution you would anywhere.

    As Goyo said it, the metro system is pretty good and super cheap, but because of that and because the traffic, it gets way too packed...I guess some days and hours are worst than others. When I was around 8 years old, I went with my family to visit my uncle that lives there. We took the metro to go somewhere that I dont remember, but at the moment of getting out of the train all the people that was getting into it didnt let my little brother out..good thing that my uncle noticed it and went back in to get my little brother. I dont remember all the details but my uncle managed to get my little brother out....IT WAS REALLY CRAZY.

    Amazing. Loved the video. These are great tips for me. I planned on taking my family to the museums. Can you do a video on Chalpultepec Castle. Being from the states and living abroad in Mexico, I learned the 2 points of view in history. During the Mexican-American war this was the last battle site. The (2) point of view are interesting. For Mexicans, they embrace the "Ninos Heroes" (Kid heros) These kids (even though they were given a directive to take cover and leave) they fought for their country until death against US Army & US Marines during Chalpultepec battle. For Americans, we embrace the victory of the battle. Example: Have you heard the US Marine Corp hymn (Marines Corp fight song) "From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli.........". That is talking about the battle and victory of Chalpultepec Castle. Chalpultepec Castle = halls of Montezuma

    Big differences with Moscow when it comes to architecture and it seems more spacious but more utilitarian too, I've done the penguine shuffle from the surface to the train there and at rush hour there's just as many people. Everything is tighter in the Moscow metro but more beauty in the artwork.

    Thanks for your insight to using the Metro. In watching it I would encourage you to linger on signage longer so people can read without rushing too much. Needing to know destination of each individual line is similar to London. As you say, know the final stop name and just watch the signs.

    Also, fun fact, the stations have symbols because when the system was envisioned it was taken into account that some users wouldn't know how to read, so they could get around or know where to go just by looking at the symbols.

    By the way, my brother studied at UNAM and while he was living there, he got robbed a few times, one of those times by police men. My uncle who lives there got robbed just out of a bank, good money. I used to work for a Bank , but in Michoacan where I am from. I was sent to Mexico city for training a long a few other of my coo workers. It was a whole week training. Along with us there were other people from other parts of Mexico taking the training. One day, a class mate didnt show up, he missed the whole day. Later when we got to the Hotel we knew all about it. He was kidnapped in his own hotel room. The kidnappers took him to withdraw cash from his checking account, and then they took him to buy stuff with his credit cards. When they took all his money, they went back to the hotel room (5 star hotel) and left him tied down on a chair. He was found when the maids went to clean the room. I am not saying this to scare you out, but just for you guys to be safe and be careful...all the time. Mexico City is has beautiful places and its amazing, but it can be ugly...so you guys take care of yourselves.
