Jim, I've got to say, you've got a lot of brilliant videos, but this one is one of my favorites out of your catalog. Something about the scenery, the blue sky, the curves of Route 8, and that brilliant Stevie Wonder song, plus the insanity that is the I-84 interchange at the end, all come together to make an excellent viewing experience that I keep finding myself coming back to!

Jim, this is the one I've been waiting years for. And let me say, you handled it masterfully! Route 8 was probably my most frequently traveled non-interstate highway. Being from Connecticut, it was an essential artery for many of my busines
s and pleasure travels. And when the last segment was completed in the early '80s, it provided an uninterrupted mini-holiday on wheels. I moved away from CT 12 years ago. Thank you for bringing one of my all time favorite highways back to me!

Naugatuck is my home town! I'm so thrilled you came to CT! I've been watching your channel for a while now; all your videos are great! I appreciate the history and background you provide along the way. Side note: They call the intersection of Rt. 8 and 84 "the mixmaster." Can't wait to see Hartford next!

Thanks for personally recommending this drive to me, back in 2009. Had a lot of fun driving this freeway. Definitely one of the more interesting freeways, out on the east coast.

Great videos Jim, lots of memories on this one doing bridge work back in the day.
Raining one morning waiting on a ramp to get cancelled and a guy went by doing doughnuts into the median, rolled 3-4 times ended up on the roof, climbed out took 2 dizzy steps sideways and fell over knocking himself out on the guardrail just as a cop pulled up.
    Keep up the good work.

This road reminds me a little bit of parts of the highways on Need for Speed Most Wanted- the 2005 video game that had some freeways after seeing this I swear were inspired by some of the roads on the east coast! Awesome vid, great soundtrack as usual and I hope you have safe travels!

Loved this video, drove this way many, many times when I lived in CT. CT-8 becomes even prettier north of Waterbury, through Torrington and into Winsted. It's a lot hillier and windier when you head further north.

Always wanted to see the I-84/CT-8 interchange from the CT-8 perspective. FYI, I-84 is the only interstate which goes through my home area of Dutchess County, NY.
Also, excellent choice of music. Makes me want to hop on I-84 and head towards Waterbury... :)

One thing I noticed after looking at this route on Google Maps is that CT doesn't measure their exit numbers off of mile markers. Exit 33 is actually 29.5 miles from the beginning of CT-8. I-84 eastbound from the NY state line to the MA state line is 97.4 miles and the last exit on I-84 is exit 74. I'm not a fan of numbering exits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc. I prefer the exit numbers to be in sync with the mile markers and using A, B, C, etc. for multiple exits within the same milepost.

Very great video and soundtrack Mr. Freeway Jim! 10 out of 10! Just one important comment and question: I noticed in most of your freeway videos you mention every interchange you drive past! However, in other videos, you refrain from mention the exits! Do you have a certain type of critieria you have to follow when producing your videoes? For example, importance of exits, points of interests, video upload size, or number of notations per video?

6:52 What about the part north of Waterbury? When was that completed?

It's sped up to cover longer distance in a shorter time, real time driving videos IMO are painfully boring. The footage is sped up to match the tempo of the particular music being used, that's basically what this channel is, as all videos are made that way.

You're Welcome! BTW, S/N: (1) Under which standards do you go by in determining whether a major city is a good or bad choice to visit when producing a highway video? Crime rates, important highways, traffic environments, frequency of disasters, points of interest, etc.? (2) Do you ever get to visit Springfield, MA; Buffalo, NY; Syracuse, NY; Harrisburg, PA; or any major northeastern city other than ones have recently filmed?
