That's the truth! Kelli is my cousin and I was more upset by that than she or any other family members. To me, she pours herself into every beat of a song! Love you, Kelli. Be safe and joyful. Love to your sweet children, Greg and your parents. Healing prayers for Laura.
might we expect a jrb medley, jon? :3 actually you should just go FUCK IT and do a hipster broadway medley. sondheim, guettel, all that good stuff. this is obviously the best way to get a shit ton of views from the general public lmao
this is one of the best performances i've ever heard. Her voice is so perfect for this song, her emotion is 120% and it's the first time I hear an italian accent that is not stereotypical or overacted, but it is actually very close to what an italian accent sounds like.
I have never heard a woman sing like that in my life. And I am not young. One of the greatest pieces of tape I have had the privilege to watch. I am stunned.
This is one of the most perfectly constructed and beautifully conceived Broadway songs I have heard in years. And Kelli O'Hara's performance is breathtaking. Every time I watch this, I am reduced to tears by its artistic integrity. A real gem.
I've listened to this song countless times, and yet here I am in tears again. One of the most singular performances of music of any genre I've ever experienced.
Kelli O'Hara is at the peak of her powers, now. The way she mixes her voice and the way she interprets the lyrics is absolutely perfect. And riveting. Excellent!!
One regret I will always have is that I did not get to see Kelli and Steven preform this wonderful music! I had tickets to see the play for just a week after it suddenly closed - a BIG fail for Broadway, as far as I am concerned! I have listened to the soundtrack over 100 times now and cannot get enough. So filled with emotion.
i kid you not, this video was when I fell in love with the Musical. That day I finally decided to watch this video that was always sitting there on my home page, I fell in love instantly and I knew then I had to see the show. I proceeded to find the other songs fromthe shpw and it only solidified my need to see the show. I finally did so, the 3rd to final performance, I cried.
+Allison Nisbet Both her and Steven Pasquale were brutally robbed. I love Neil Patrick Harris as much as the next person, but...excuse me...did the committee see Pasquale's 'It All Fades Away'? Or, 'One Second and a Million Miles'? Makes a person lose faith in the Tonys..
@@stalbansgirl-jg9yn Pasquale got snubbed that year which was crazy but the lineup was competitive I guess. O'Hara did have a shot at winning but the show's failure combined with The King & I announcement equalling a bookmark for Tony voters to award O'Hara the next year helped pave the way for Jesse Mueller, a talented break through actress playing a pop icon in a big hit that was not going to get a lot of love everywhere else. Menzel was also competitive considering the banner year she had had and positive response to If/Then. I think she was probably third but both her and Sutton Foster probably getting some "merit only" votes prevented Kelli from pulling off the upset.
Just seen this amazing woman in The King & I in London and she was amazing, but this is something else...............what a beautiful song and what a fabulous performance.
Saw the show twice. In every way that it can be, it, and this performance is astonishing. Unequalled. Can't wait for CD. Pls post the Joni Mitchellesque song the ex wife sang too.
I just got the cast recording and so far this is my favorite song, early days though so it might change. Kelli's voice is just so beautiful I could listen to her forever. ^_^
As others have said, this is just indescribably beautiful and moving. I also urge any and all people who have the chance, to see the national tour now going around the country. The entire cast is excellent, including Elizabeth Stanley and Andrew Samonsky as Francesca and Robert. Even with the Broadway originals in mind, you won't be disappointed; they are stellar!
Jerry Lambert Let others know there! I'm so sorry now that I only got to see this twice~it's a show that really stays with me, and continues giving. Quite simple, but just lovely.
I would classify this more as a modern opera, sad ending and all. Perhaps too operatic for typical Broadway audience. As for this performance, few divas could ever surpass this!
This song and her performance of it is just ridiculous. Her pain is palpable and her sense of triumph in escaping Italy and her sister is so real. I wish I could have seen this show. Since I bought the album last week, I have listened to Almost Real, Another Life, To Build a Home and Always Better on repeat. The whole score is so beautiful. My fingers are crossed for her and JRB's Tony wins. Can't wait to get the sheet music.
When a girl grows up in Napoli, there are roads laid out before her. And you understand, I'm speaking of the times before the war. When a girl grows up in Napoli, she is more or less a target for her Mama's expectations, for the boys' infatuations. All she gets is one decision, will she give them what they want? My sister, Chiara, wore tight-fitting sweaters, unbuttoned just so. Chiara would squeeze every drop of attention wherever she'd go. Chiara said, "' Cesca, you must be prepared." Chiara would act as though nobody cared. Chiara would laugh at me quiet and scared. And I dreamed of a flat in Siena on the market square. With a book, and a pot, and a window, and a single chair. Far from lonesome, far from Chiara, almost real. Paolo was a boy from down the hill, With silver eyes and hair like coal, And massive hands that trembled when he looked my way. Paolo was a boy who loved to swim, and who knows why I fell for him. But soon enough, I kissed him on a winter's day. Chiara said, "' Cesca, he's dull and he's dumb. You'll end up a farm wife, exhausted and numb. I'm off to the servicemens' club, you should come!" But I dreamed of the beach at Ancona, where our kids would play. Paolo right by my side, and the ocean only steps away. Close to Heavan, far from Chiara, almost real. Chiara went dancing while air raid sirens were shrieking. Chiara would open her legs just as easy as speaking. Paolo went off with the Army and never returned, and all that Chiara could say was, "I hope now you've learned." And the streets were rubble, and the water was filthy, and there were no cigarettes, and no haircuts, and no thinking about the future. And I sat at the harbor, watching the American ships. And then I looked up and I saw an American smile down at me, And I knew if I just took his hand, I could at last be free. I could love him, I could want him, only take me from Italia, far from Chiara, far enough that I could feel almost real.
we as a society owe Kelli O'Hara an apology for not giving her a Tony for Bridges.
literally was coming here to say this. This was her Grey Gardens/Next to Normal. voters done forked up.
Agreed.
So true. I'm a good Italian boy and she was giving me my Italian aunts in their youth. I don't know how she nailed that but she did.
Came here just to listen but wish I had come here to leave this comment. 👍
That's the truth! Kelli is my cousin and I was more upset by that than she or any other family members. To me, she pours herself into every beat of a song! Love you, Kelli. Be safe and joyful. Love to your sweet children, Greg and your parents. Healing prayers for Laura.
Absolutely unbelievable. What a knockout!
might we expect a jrb medley, jon? :3 actually you should just go FUCK IT and do a hipster broadway medley. sondheim, guettel, all that good stuff. this is obviously the best way to get a shit ton of views from the general public lmao
tiffany aching Please im begging you
I see you everywhere!
She puts so much emotion into each phrase. No note goes to waste. She's an incredible storyteller.
very much sooo....
That is exactly the word I would use. A master storyteller.
Absolutely. She understands the responsibility of being a singer. Communication!
this is one of the best performances i've ever heard. Her voice is so perfect for this song, her emotion is 120% and it's the first time I hear an italian accent that is not stereotypical or overacted, but it is actually very close to what an italian accent sounds like.

"Almost Real" is a story in itself. The lyrics are thought-provoking and carried to perfection by Kelli's voice.
I'm sure many others would agree with me when I say, this is a Tony award winning performance. Perfection.
This is one of the most perfectly constructed and beautifully conceived Broadway songs I have heard in years. And Kelli O'Hara's performance is breathtaking. Every time I watch this, I am reduced to tears by its artistic integrity. A real gem.
The composition of this wonderful song is pure genius; and Kelli adds her own greatness to it.
I've listened to this song countless times, and yet here I am in tears again. One of the most singular performances of music of any genre I've ever experienced.
Wow. I had no idea what I was getting into when I clicked on this.
Absolutely breathtaking. Just--wow.
Same
Kelli O'Hara is at the peak of her powers, now. The way she mixes her voice and the way she interprets the lyrics is absolutely perfect. And riveting. Excellent!!
I weep every time I watch this. Her voice and talent are like diamonds.
I keep coming back.. The subtle accent is incredible as well. I adore we, and I wish that I could see her in bridges :(
Holy goddess. This is absolutely incredible, how did she not win the Tony????
Her voice is from God's own hand. What a beautiful song.
Actually, Kelli's voice is from her own throat.
The divine Kelli O'Hara!! And now she is singing at The Met!! And deservedly so!! Brava! A real American treasure.
I keep coming back to watch this. Phenomenal! A true thing of beauty!!
This woman is perfection.
Just astounding. The music. Her voice. The impact.
UMM this may be the most amazing thing ive ever watched
coming for a teenager, this is amazing music! I love Kelli! She is amazing! Who in their right mind would dislike this video?
I have listened to this performance dozens of times and am reduced to tears every time. A true masterclass.
Such a beautiful and captivating voice. Instantly got hooked on her smooth rich sounds.
One regret I will always have is that I did not get to see Kelli and Steven preform this wonderful music! Same. Visited NY from London and was so disappointed when I heard it was going to close shortly before our trip.
I wish I couldve seen it now listening to the sound track. Hope this play is brought back.
There are no words to describe this performance ...stunning!!
Stunning song; stunning singer!!
Performances like this, ladies and gentlemen, are why Kelli O'Hara now has a Tony. Flawless! Perfection.
I could listen to this song all day
She is just incredible. Absolutely stunning.
Gets better every time I listen to it!!
FOREVER AND ALWAYS WILL BE ONE OF MY FAVORITES OMG😩😍
Perfection!!! I could listen to this every single day!!!!
Music gets no better than this.
Whoa. That got my tears flowing. Incredibly beautiful.
GLORIOUS!!!
how dare she do this so flawlessly?
Beautiful. Thanks for putting it on youtube to enjoy.
I never tire of watching this. Please give us more. Hope I can come to NYC and see The King and I.
I want Jason Robert Brown to write the score for a musical version of The Fault in Our Stars … just putting this into the universe
So I'm not the only one who wants a TFIOS Musical. This is nice to know.
***** now I also know someone else wants it as well. We need a Tfios musical
javarie19 I wrote one for fun, but I think a Jason Robert Brown version would probably be way better composed.
I could see that! Prob would make me cry just as much as Bridges did :P
I watch this every day ... and weep.
i kid you not, this video was when I fell in love with the Musical. Beautiful. Every note is absolute perfection.
She is perfection. I'm so sad first, they didn't perform at the Tony's and second that the show is closed. Live on Bridges! Live on!!
How did she not win aTony for this role???

This song is amazing
I love this so freaking much UGHHH
WOW! WOW! WOW! Kelli O'hara is sooooooooooooooo amazing in this song!
This video is a priceless gift to theatre lovers, honestly thank you for letting me into this.
This song wrecks me. When I saw O'Hara sing it in the theater, it was devastating. Peak form for a perfect song.
her voice is so versatile and expressive, and the fullness of her presence is so enchanting. utterly delightful. Thank you for sharing.
you know a singer is a true artist when you absolutely forget they're singing, and are just captivated by the story
Chills. That was breathtaking.
... this is incredible.
OBSESSED
Her voice is so steady I love it!!!
Absolutely spellbinding. Gets me every time, I find I'm holding my breath. Bravo.
I am completely touched by this fantastic interpretation of Kelli O'Hara! What a singer!
Oh my dog. I reallllllly hope I get to see this lady live someday, she's just too amazing for words.
absolutely beautiful
Masterclass ❤️👌
I met her today at a Q and A at my college and she is so humble and so real and just beautiful a soul. Absolutely one of my biggest inspirations.
I've listened to this over and over tonight, and all that fills my mind is *wow*. As good a song as I have ever heard.
...and that was Seth Rudetsky on piano?! What an incredible performance!! Kelli O'Hara is legendary. Brava!
I have sung with her onstage before!! She is truly amazing
Just seen this amazing woman in The King & I in London and she was amazing, but this is something else...............what a beautiful song and what a fabulous performance.
Stunning!
DAMN!!! I mean.......just wow!!!
Jaw-droppingly good. I'm speechless.
Marvelous singing voice Kelli O'Hara has
So blown away by this. Incredible! Kudos to the beautiful musicians as well. So much passion.
Speechless. Wow.

Absolute unadulterated perfection . Like watching lightning in a bottle .....
Stunningly Exquisite!
Saw the show twice. In every way that it can be, it, and this performance is astonishing. Unequalled. Can't wait for CD. Pls post the Joni Mitchellesque song the ex wife sang too.
Please, God. Let Kelli win a tony for this performance.
Brilliant! Heartfelt.
I love songs that tell a story. Wow, that was beautiful.
Stunning is an understatement
I can't stop watching, CHILLS
Excellent job! Just wow! Stunning!!
My God! This was amazing!
I just got the cast recording and so far this is my favorite song, early days though so it might change. Kelli's voice is just so beautiful I could listen to her forever. ^_^
I am blessed to have this experience. Such talent....
Stunning, simply stunning. Brought tears to my eyes.

+AvalonMorley I just saw it last night here in Las Vegas and we just loved it.

I have never seen or heard a musical composition by any artist to compare with Kelli's performance... breathtaking
Welp. Crying ugly tears now! That was brilliant! Thanks.
Stunningly beautiful ❤️
Absolutely marvelous.
Groooßartig!!! O'hara is just awesome!

I should have known what I was getting into with Kelli + JRB, but I have goosebumps and OH MY GOD.
This is absolute perfection
Stunning as usual, Kelli
