Maybe you’ll have an idea here what I should do. Signal flickers sometimes or will be completely black when turning on camera. Signal will turn on when I move the monitor back and forth. My first thought is, must be the wiring. But wanted to get your thoughts. Bought the cam in college and have been too broke to fix it ever since lmao. Always tinkering to get it work lol
Impressive man! Nice job!!! New Ursa 12k User here trying to make this thing more user friendly for my workflow. Appreciate the video. Definitely got the wheels turning here.
I have some concerns about a such cable reliability. Usually it doesn't design for an external usage. I would install 50+ pin SCSI connector (VHDCI or smith similar like DB-50F) on the camera and on the display.
I wish there was a more robust solution. Like what wooden camera did with the blackmagic evf. That cabling is fragile that way. If anyone has an improved method let me know. Thx!
Hello friend, your ursa mini mod is interesting. I am also an ursa mini owner. Now I am trying to make attempts to reduce the weight of the camera by replacing the heat sink. Do you have any suggestions? raghu from kerala, India.
How is it stupid if you dont use it on your shoulder? How is it stupid and useless if you use it on sticks? How is it stupid if you hand hold it? Just because it isn't perfect for your application doesn't mean it does work for many others.
Thanks! I made a really terrible version, but the one shown is from the engineer at the factory. So if anyone else wants to copy the design that should be a pretty good start. Finding out what connectors were used took forever, so that schematic is probably the most useful part of the video. -Theo
Theo, Could they make a 50pin LVDS Extension cable for you? If so, I think it would make this entire project far more approachable for the 'average' joe. With some CAD work and a 3D Printer you could incorporate a very nice solution that should only require the monitor to be disassembled.
Hey RJ! That is what I thought I ordered from them, but they sent me the cable in the video and after waiting 3-4 months for it (in which time Miesner Media transitioned to being mostly a post production facility) I decided it was good enough. In the diagram in the video it actually shows the part numbers for the male and female end of the cable (20374-R50E-31 and 20380-R50T-16) so theoretically anyone should be able to order a cable that will work as an extension since that was the original plan. -Theo

How can I get this cable please ?! 🙌🏻
Think you might have voided your warrenty...
Blackmagic should have you on their design team!
Where you by this cable?
Where you buy this cable? Im looking for
Can you maybe recommend the place you asked to make the cable for you? Would be really helpful to be able to purchase this same cable from them
Do you have menu access on an external monitor with this camera? If so could you have achieved the same thing with an external touch screen monitor?
Is it a 50 pin or 51 pin ?

Ok, do you still have that second cable? Im In!
You didn't pull off the background sound of the footage?
Yeah, I was trying to channel my inner Diresta ;)

Is it a TV on the background?)

Wow, such a great idea! Did you have to make that schematic for the cable yourself?

Is 50 pin ldvs the same in 4.6k pro ?

Creative innovative Mod! Well done 🍻
Can you do this with the Big Ursa 4K giant monitor? :)
Would be awesome, have you found anything similar to this?
haha first take apart Ursa mini I saw .... great job .....
Good job bro
Damn I need some things done to my camera 👀
great
Brave but brilliant!
I think you probably should have just bought a smallhd
Hey Nick! I have several external monitors, the problem is that they don't allow you to change things in the touch screen menu.
haha dam nice job, fun to watch!
I'd be so nervous, and also I'd break it.
Just buy a video assist
