I’m so glad this guy is realistic when talking about a car’s reliability, ‘yeah parts are a bit pricey if something does go wrong, but if you maintain it properly you shouldn’t have any issues’ rather than what most people say especially on a Range Rover or a Merc (and even I’m guilty of it too) like ‘oooo you’ll be bankrupt and it’ll be a money pit because it’s a luxury car and will never work’ etc.
I remember sitting in one when they first came out at the then, International Motor show, NEC and being blown away by the quality of the interior and the styling. Yes I’d have one given half the chance.
I've been fortunate enough to have some pretty decent wheel time in all Bentley models over the last 12 years, and I must admit, your review is spot on. Flying spurs are also a terrific "feel good" car, and more practical than the GT. Main dealer service is a good price, considering my old XJ6 used to be £500 or thereabouts. Bentley after-service is also second only to Rolls Royce (and that's REALLY picking hairs) The Conti is definitely on the "When I've paid the mortgage..." list.
Fabulous review of a wonderful car and great scenery as well, what else could we ask for! Thanks for this great and down to earth review, I can imagine a lot of piggy banks have been rattled to see if there is enough for what seems to be a great bargain for what you actually get! The chat about the downsides too seemed reasonable as well. Thanks for this, loved it!

Great video again. I have the RR 5.0 supercharged exactly like yours but on lpg as a daily runner & a 2004 Continental GT which I use regularly. It was my dream car & took me 5 years to pay for it, but totally worth it. Bought it with full Bentley history with 56k on the clock. Biggest bill in 6 years was £2k for new radiator (cheap from Scuderia) & water pump & drive belt. Got front brake discs from well known online parts place for £300 & they arrived stamped “Bentley Crewe”. Result. Many VW Audi parts crossover to the Bentley. Bottom line is as you say buy a good low mileage example & enjoy it. You may get the odd larger bill but totally worth it. Find a good mechanic you trust (mine is Audi trained) & don’t be scared! You will not be disappointed. As a total petrol head I’ve had a lot of cars but the Bentley is something special! I gaze at it every day & still can’t believe I own it!
Well done - good choice of cars! You're quite right. With the right mechanic and maintenance you can run one of these fairly affordably. They're beautiful cars.
This car looks brand new but I have some suggestions to make it look more modern: 1. change the steering wheel to a 3 spoke Bentley one 2. tint the interior of the taillights in black (not the circles, only the rest) 3. newer bentley wheels Beautiful car and congrats for the purchase 🙌🏻
What a realistic and encouraging review, I was lucky enough to buy an ultra low mileage, 2007 GTC six years ago, I too think this is the best car I have ever owned and driven. I still have the car today, my only regret is that I have only managed to amass a total of 20,000 miles. The feeling I get when driving is as exciting now, as it was when I first got the car. My original plan was to commute to our house in Southern Spain, on a fairly regular basis, for a variety of reasons, this never happened, hence the low mileage. I recently decided to sell the car, but I couldn't attract a single interested enquiry, could be due to covid, or maybe my asking price. Either way keeping one of the best cars, in the World, is no hardship. keep up the good work.
If it has a multi stack CD system then you can probably plug in a GROM Blue tooth module into the back of the head unit so that you can stream your Ipod or phone through your stereo. Can even use stereo buttons on steering wheel. I have one in my Range Rover P38 and it works really well and keeps everything looking stock.
Congratulations on the acquisition of one of your dream cars. I will admit to a sneaking admiration for these Bentley Bombers. You are very fortunate to have a cossetted low miler and I agree keeping up the main dealer schedule is really the only option. My YoLo was a Jaguar V12 XJ-S. And tbh, it was nearly the financial death of me. My mechanic Staf said "Whoever sold you this car wants putting against the wall and shooting". So people - make sure your YoLo is a minter like this Bentley, not a nail! P.S. Your final comment had me laugh out loud - I used to work for a builders firm and that abbreviated word for continental got used a lot, especially when referring to polo necked Architects. "Oh no, here comes Conti".
I had to come back and say how much I love your "do not call it a Conti" type of remarks, fabulous.'Scuse my use of Merc, but it is not a W12 Bentley Continetal GT not even close but it is mine.
Still a video I regularly watch and it helped me immensely before I bought my own GT. Just look at how many more views this video has on your channel Matt than any other !!! Maybe it's time to get another one for another video ? I'd recommend a GT Speed as although they look identical, it is a very different car all round. 👍🏻
Amazing colour. My neighbour's former Arnage T Mulliner was painted in Moroccan blue. It looked fantastic with the quad exhaust (special request) and the polished rims. I guess it's a rare colour.
@@TheBS80 It is a fantastic colour for the car. And we also have the full mulliner interior, including piano black woodwork. The steering wheel is also piano black and leather. It also has little extras including the largest carbon composite brakes fitted to a road car. Bespoke wheels and other stuff.

Great informative vid. Recently part exchanged my SLK55 and seriously considered a Bentley Cont. After much thought eventually bought a BMW M4 Conv. Just wanted to stick with a hard top Convertible with performance. I have 500 BHP 4 seats and a very comfy ride when dialled in, so for me a no brainer! Beamer can be a bit jerky unless full right peddle commitment, probably down to the 2 turbos, but sheer performance is something else. Puts my SLK55. TVR 5.0 to shame!! Maybe in a few years I will end up with a Bentley or Aston but currently value for money/ low depreciation and a proper petrol head useable super car the BMW M4 takes some beating!!!!!
Good for you , enjoy your dream car !!! I just bought my Dream car , I was 16 years old in 1986 when I always wanted a Mercedes Benz 300 SD , Turbo Diesel, so I got one 10 days ago a 1984 Mercedes Benz 300 SD , Turbo Diesel. Wherever I stop or just leave my car parking places , I got attention from people , same as I driving it . Everyone look at her as she floots on the road and eating road bumps like nothing even was there . I like to look at her and puts smile on my face , I finally have it as I am 50 years old was in July . So good luck and enjoying your Dream car , I know how do you feel about her . Great video !
Those twin-turbo V12s _thrust_ you forward. As if propulsion comes jet-like, out of the back of the car, rather than from a drive-shaft, transmission and rotating wheels. It's a unique sensation, in that respect. Exclusive, in my experience, to turbocharged V12s. An amazing car, you have there, sir. Congrats and big respect for achieving and acquiring your dream motor. I wish you many happy (and _smooooth!)_ hours driving it! 👍😎👌
My Brother's co-worker bought this car. This car is an Mechanichal Nightmare..every repair is stupidly complicated and expensive. Just to do the spark plugs you have to take of the air intake manifold and replace the gasket afterwards. The alternator is liquid cooled from the radiator. This thing takes like 12 quarts of oil and I think you have to take off the catalytic converter to get to the oil filter. Now, the one that my brother's co-worker owns breaks down all the time, and every time it's like an 1,800 dollar repair bill. Last thing was the front air suspension, just the 2 struts alone are $690.00. I had the whole entire front end rebuilt and aligned on my Nissan for $700.00 parts and labor.
@@foreversolvent5334 Yes sir. If you have loads and loads of money and another car to get around in while your Bentley is in the shop every other month, then yeah it's a nice car.
What a great find. I now prefer this to the new model for the clean classic look. I bet you've timed this just right for the bottom of the market b4 they start going up, especially the cabriolet GTC which just look gorgeous.
I just bought an 06 and I agree with everything you say ! It's the best car I've ever driven, keep thinking of reasons to go the the local grocery store hahaha !
Great review Matt. I've driven several of these including the Speed and Supersport versions and have to agree that they are fabulous cars. Now if I could find a nice clean LHD model for that price (I live in Spain), I'd be very tempted. Do you still own this car? If so, an update on your experience of ownership would be fascinating.
Reading between the 'lines' & joining all the 'dots' it sounds like you scored big time...good on you, thanx for taking 'us' on a drive - looks like brand new
I have the 621 bhp supersport. DO NOT service these cars at 10k intervals ! Your oil is the lifeblood of any car. You should change the oil every 5k miles. Oil loses its properties. And gearbox sealed for life? No way. Change the oil and filter every 50k and watch for leaks around the gearbox sump. It's made of plastic and distorts. Lastly clean out the rubbish in the engine bay bulk head (plenum chamber) and clear the drain holes, failing which, you'll get damp in the passenger foot well which will mess up the car electrics situated in the void of the nsf wing and that is mega money to fix. Buy quality filters and fully synthetic 10 40 oil like Mobil 1. Follow these guidelines which will save you money and grief. TF
love this review, covers everything including a complaint about the cup holders. I'd be a million miles less specific about cup holders though. fine on trains

4:08 Totally sums up the downside to owning a Bentley. Every time you drive it you're just waiting for that darned engine light to ping at you, because you know A) It will at some point, and B) It ain't gonna be cheap. I speak from personal experience.....
couldn’t agree more , i had an 06 GTC in 2012 The air suspension went , ( just out of manufactures warrenty), they only replace them in pairs . Total costs of parts and labour from Bentley Surrey …… just under 18k ( ok they also did some work on the engine ) . Thank God for an independent super car warrenty . loads of other electric niggles too . in the end i got rid of it for a 2011 Porsche 997 turbo s . to date zero problems . The issue being the GTC has too much VW and not enough Crewe parts.
@@Steve-cc6xc My first Bentley was a 2001 Arnage, the one with the RR 6.75l engine. First the head gasket went (£3,500) then all the water belts had to be replaced (£2,000) then the gearbox went (£3,000). All in one year. I was looking into a Flying Spur but they too have serious issues with air suspension and similar costs. My brother also had a Bentley which suffered numerous electrical issues (generally £500 a pop) We came to the conclusion they are "3 year cars". Only buy one if it is still under manufacturer warranty. It's very sad really because they're truly stunning cars, with bags of performance, and incredible presence...if only it wasn't spoiled constantly waiting for the engine light to illuminate....
You’re a lucky boy to find a low mileage cherished example of one of these as most are past their best and are just ticking time bombs. I’ve also liked these for a while but being a mechanic I fear them like the plague when things go wrong ... and inevitably they will. Good luck with it Matt. Looks like you’ve bagged a good one 👌🏼
I absolutely love these cars but Matt’s response to the dashboard warning signal at 4:06 tells you all you need to know. Autotrader’s own experts rate the Bentley Continental with just one star out of five for reliability and it currently resides in their survey’s worst ten models overall. These cars are packed with sophisticated electronic wizardry. There is a lot to go wrong and electrics do deteriorate with age, wear and tear, and lack of use as well. A sensor can be triggered by something as silly as a marginally below par connection, but will likely cost a lot more than a tap and go of your debit card to get the fault traced and put right…and who knows what expensive surprise awaits when the next warning light illuminates. A quality second-hand Bentley Continental, like Matt’s example, is a great car to own, but it is not for the faint-hearted or those with shallow pockets.
Most amazing car and exactly my words! Buy a outstanding one with low km and keep another 15k in spare for service and repairs for the next years. It will give you the biggest pleasure for the rest of your life! Any luxury car was on it's quality peak in the mid 2000's, after this quality dropped enormous. Again, of course Bentley and RR are a different topic of course. I wouldn't know any better car and more luxury on four wheels than this Bently for this kind of money! It is MY and THE car for luxury weekend trips and a vacation week in our Croatian/Italian mediterranean neighborhood, all in all no more than 5.000 km per year. Great video, best regards from Austria!
I had the misfortune of being a passenger in the rear of a continental, let's just say, after an hour, I could imagine how being tortured on the rack must have felt. Your right about the battery, it seems to screw them up if it goes flat, they really don't like that.
That mini heart attack he had when he thought he had a check engine light is remarkably relatable 😂
Every time I hear that noise in a car my heart drops
And puts his hand to his chest! The funniest I’ve seen in a while 😂😂

They were totally brilliant, always collected and returned the car for free and it always came back gleaming - not just cleaned but polished too.
Looks like someone has finally stepped up to reviewing Bentleys. I am proud.
Cheers!
Your reviews are both informed and articulate, without sounding pompous.
Wonderful stuff ; subscribed.
Had mine 2 years now. 2007 70000 miles Brake light switch, drive shaft and a couple of tyres !!!!! All the suspension is Audi/Vw so not expensive. What a car !!!! Black gtc mulliner It’s what heaven looks like and drives just as well !!!!!!
I absolutely Love Your Automobile Reviews!!! Down To Earth, No BS , Straight Up Honesty and Realism !!!
Thank you! I appreciate it
Be great to have an update on what happened with this car: who owns it now, how have running costs been, any major issues, etc.
Bentley after-service is also second only to Rolls Royce (and that's REALLY picking hairs)
The Conti is definitely on the "When I've paid the mortgage..." list.
Did you refer to it as a Conti ironically?
Christmas come early, you lucky guy.
I know I’d have some Ho Ho Hoes in the back of it 😉🤣

"The weighty feel of an expensive pen". He paints pictures with worms.
"The things like the sat-nav are laughable. I think it still lists Germany as two countries". Brilliant. Thanks for making me spit my tea all over the wall James. I mean the wall in my kitchen, not Berlin Wall, of course. Congratulations, as that's a rare gem. Enjoy!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Absolutely love your videos. No chirpy attention seeking acting just pure, honest and relaxed car reviews. So refreshing
I appreciate that!
This car looks brand new but I have some suggestions to make it look more modern:
1. change the steering wheel to a 3 spoke Bentley one
2. tint the interior of the taillights in black (not the circles, only the rest)
3. newer bentley wheels
Beautiful car and congrats for the purchase 🙌🏻
I agree other than the tints mate 👍🏼
At that mileage and age,I would keep it completely stock, maybe slap one of your " nice plates" on it for the full weekend affect.
I am convinced your videos are EPKs for your acting career. I love your presentation skills and innuendo. Great Job 👍🏾
That’s a beautiful car to take to southern Spain. I’d love one
This is absolute gold. After 15 years of new cars, it’s time to switch strategy. I value your advice Matt, you are a legend…
Rick Lovely car. I've got a W12 2009 Mulliner !! . You got dressed up today for the review - Like the Paul Smith Sweatshirt. Blingeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
😂😂
I had to come back and say how much I love your "do not call it a Conti" type of remarks, fabulous.'Scuse my use of Merc, but it is not a W12 Bentley Continetal GT not even close but it is mine.
"Tips the scales like a Weight Watcher's meeting in January. Bahaha.
A Bentley will never overtake you, it will glide by you gracefully .
You're language and eloquence is impeccable sir. Refreshing car review.
Thank you
Still a video I regularly watch and it helped me immensely before I bought my own GT. Just look at how many more views this video has on your channel Matt than any other !!! Maybe it's time to get another one for another video ? I'd recommend a GT Speed as although they look identical, it is a very different car all round. 👍🏻
I'm actively looking
@@HighPeakAutos I made a video regarding fuel economy that is on my channel mate. Check it out if you get a chance.
So glad you got your dream car at last, you look very pleased with it 😊
We have the Diamond edition in Moroccan blue and it's stunning with piano black interior and black leather. We love it.
Thank you for sharing yours.
Stunning colour
Amazing colour. My neighbour's former Arnage T Mulliner was painted in Moroccan blue. It looked fantastic with the quad exhaust (special request) and the polished rims. I guess it's a rare colour.
@@TheBS80 It is a fantastic colour for the car. And we also have the full mulliner interior, including piano black woodwork. The steering wheel is also piano black and leather. It also has little extras including the largest carbon composite brakes fitted to a road car. Bespoke wheels and other stuff.
That speed warning “bing” is identical on my 2010 Passat Wagon. I was going to sell it but now I think I’ll hold on to it.
Great video, content and advice. I am seriously contemplating getting one of these. Your review was very informative, educational and enjoyable. Yes i sometimes think about the cheaper price and each time ive done it, Ive regretted it. Thanks for your review... subscribed
Thank you! I am studying English by listening your reviews. I also love this car! Could you please create a review of Bentley Arnage. Thanks alot
The car has clearly been cared for, so all that's needed is continuing that care and enjoying. Worst thing is to get a neglected abused example, that would be misery. It looks a real find, lucky man, have fun.
Thanks!
@@HighPeakAutos : Really liked the "attention to detail" on the Bentley GT and history mentioned from the ownership by Rolls Royce to Volkswagen - this is British motoring at it's best and stewardship by a German Motoring giant has definitely secured Walter Owen Bentley's legacy.
Should I win the lottery................!.
I love the car but your unique turn of phrase make me laugh out loud.
Haha thanks

Great choice!

Absolutely lush Matt over the moon for you, why waltz when you can rock n roll.

Matt your a pleasure to listen to. Top guy with great advice.

Thank you! I agree with your summary of it too 😉
Would be really interested to see what this car is like reliability wise over the next 12 months.
@@FenderBender5150 you’re driving a Nissan this isn’t a car marketed at you .

Haha getting closer :)
The best car reviews on you tube..and I think iv seen them all..TV bound I reckon

What a great find. I now prefer this to the new model for the clean classic look. I bet you've timed this just right for the bottom of the market b4 they start going up, especially the cabriolet GTC which just look gorgeous.
I think so too!
When you grabbed your chest when the lights came on.... legit had the same reaction.
Hahah
I just bought an 06 and I agree with everything you say ! It's the best car I've ever driven, keep thinking of reasons to go the the local grocery store hahaha !
Great review Matt. I've driven several of these including the Speed and Supersport versions and have to agree that they are fabulous cars. Now if I could find a nice clean LHD model for that price (I live in Spain), I'd be very tempted. Do you still own this car? If so, an update on your experience of ownership would be fascinating.
He didn't want them to go to Phillip Scofield...absolute classic
You talk, such good sense. Well done. Always amusing 😊.

The Range Rover won’t be given another glimpse! That will be quite a car for a cruise to Spain.
AA won't cover it for European. It's too old....:-)
Reading between the 'lines' & joining all the 'dots' it sounds like you scored big time...good on you, thanx for taking 'us' on a drive - looks like brand new
Thank you for this. You answered questions I've had, and I don't feel as fearful about chancing a used GT now.
The very first one I saw many years ago made me want one, just amazing 😊.

Hi Matt,
John in Norway messaging you l in ore of your good fortune I recently telephoned the office and your college answered and you where out.
I must say I was disappointed but if you had been there it would probably consisted of relative small talk but now the Bentley will be out front and centre.

My brother also had a Bentley which suffered numerous electrical issues (generally £500 a pop)
We came to the conclusion they are "3 year cars". Only buy one if it is still under manufacturer warranty.
It's very sad really because they're truly stunning cars, with bags of performance, and incredible presence...if only it wasn't spoiled constantly waiting for the engine light to illuminate....
I have just found this site, and I believe this guy is up there with the best as a reviewer
Thanks! I appreciate that
You’re a lucky boy to find a low mileage cherished example of one of these as most are past their best and are just ticking time bombs. I’ve also liked these for a while but being a mechanic I fear them like the plague when things go wrong ... and inevitably they will. Good luck with it Matt. Looks like you’ve bagged a good one 👌🏼
Not true, if you buy right these cars absolutely rock solid!
Another cool video. Sell me the Bentley!!
'the Duke of Westminster' spot on analogy!!👍
4:08 mini heart attack he had when he thought he had a check engine light
5:08 - 'This car tips the scale like a Weight Watchers meeting in January' HA!
I had the misfortune of being a passenger in the rear of a continental, let's just say, after an hour, I could imagine how being tortured on the rack must have felt.
Your right about the battery, it seems to screw them up if it goes flat, they really don't like that.
Great review, good to see a man finally united with his dream machine. Hope it runs like a clock for you!
