great video, thank you :) although I do not agree with you on the very last outfit, I think the first version in the end looked a lot better. and also, in my opinion, a mini skirt looks best paired with knee high boots :) cheers!
Thank you! And I do LOVE a mini with a knee high boot - I agree that this is the best way to break up the blocks within the outfit (followed by ankle boot to create the length through the leg, especially when wearing a singular block of colour up top)
One outfit you don't like the way the jacket hits and accentuates your "widest" part, another outfit lets change the cropped top to one that hits and accentuates your "widest" part!
Don't cut, then cut the vertical line!!! Sorry, but this video was all over the place and full of contradictions.
And bottom one color, top another color, jacket another color, shoes another color, bag another color.... Quelle catastrophe ! Outfits with more than 3 colors !! Blasphemy !
It's probably worth starting by saying that fashion is *full* of contradictions; one mood can dictate your styling over another. A slight change in silhouette etc. A lot comes down to visually, what you like (or equally, don't). The styling conventions that I use, tend to be consistent for the types of outfits, proportions etc that I put together, however there are always exceptions, and sometimes styling can be on the cusp (eg. where you say the top that hits at my widest part, it's actually *just* below, so I'm happy to wear loose and this is a combo I often do especially with my longer knits + skinnier pants). But I don't just have cropped vs not-cropped. The length of all the items in my wardrobe varies which means the way I will approach each varies - again it's on a scale. And sometimes you might be willing to give up something that is traditionally flattering to add in an element that might not be "traditionally flattering" to most eyes because it's your taste.
The three colour rule isn't gospel either, and it takes into account tones too within the same colour family (ie. the nude-brown bag with the light brown shoes I would put into the same category).
Essentially, you should be thinking of styles rules more as tools than in black and white. If something feels wrong with your outfit, you can look into your toolbox and choose the tools that best resolve the issue for you. It might look different every time. It's why you may often hear the phrase that style is a muscle - the more you play around with outfit options the more you will discover how you like to apply these to your own outfits.
This is why there's such an emphasis on "personal" style within the broader discussion. What I hope you take away from this video is understanding the *types* of things I look at and how I would love to resolve those issues in an outfit to transform it. How you do the same with your own outfits might look different :) Hope that helps to clarify (and maybe, I just needed to apply further explanation to what I did comparing to how that differed within similar silhouette breakdowns - something to consider trying to add in, in future!)
