    I didn’t know about TW until I started seeing reactions from the Charismatic Voice (Evolve) and Beth Roars and Julia Nilon (Choke).
    Those reactions and comment section intrigued me so I started looking for other TW songs and when I came across this TedX everything started to click for me and I started to understand some of the references people were leaving in comments.
    That was over a year ago and I have since purchased/downloaded all their music, seen them live on the Error tour and joined their Patreon and other socials.
    I think it’s pretty safe to say I’m deep in the rabbit hole to the point I get excited when I find a clip of something I haven’t seen before.
    They are far and above my favorite “new” band and I plan on being a fan as long as they continue to create their art.
    Like the rest of TWA, I’m patiently (maybe impatiently) waiting for TW4.

    I think Ale spoke on stage more during this presentation than she ever has since. LOL Imagine that Ale was in the 4th grade when they recorded their first album from which all these songs come. That fact is insane! Two of the three songs are still in their headliner set. And they occasionally play the other one. Note how smoothly Pau replaces a broken stick on Survive (the third song). Of course, the way she hits the drums, she has lots of experience. And she is playing in heels. She doesn't do that anymore.

      That's about the time (I think a couple months earlier, maybe) that I fell down the same hole as you. I had seen the "First Enter Sandman" cover when it went viral prior, and dismissed it as "cute, but I'll never hear anything else from these girls again".
      Then one day, I was bored after doing a bunch of bureaucratic paperwork to close a business, and randomly remembered that video. Curious whatever happened to those kids, I did like *two* RUclips searches to find out A) their band name and B) then seek out anything more recent... and came across the vid featured here.
      And that was the tipping point, as it were, to fall down that rabbit hole... 😋

    Every time I watch a reaction to Unmendable live and the reactor mentions how great she is in this performance, at the beginning of the performance, I always think to myself 'You just wait until the end of the song HEHE!'. 😀
    To be clear, when they say people wanted to change them, they mean big record labels. They were offer multiple contracts, but as they would have had to relinquish control of the music, go pop or sexualize themselves, they flatly refused for years, doing everything independent with Patreon and by raising money with the fans, until they finally signed with Lava records in August 2020, after 7 months of negotiation(normally takes at most 2 months).
    Dany wrote When I'm Alone when she was 15 and they were at Berklee's music program for a few months and she felt homesick. There is an inside joke with the fans about this song, because the title in Spanish sound like Huele A Melon, which means smells like a watermelon, so that's what they call the song between themselves and now so do the fans.

  • @mt4design2

    Presenting to a large audience in their second language, so clearly and confidently, and speaking on a level way beyond their years. That is amazing in itself. Then they play, and they kill it.
    They don’t perform covers. They play originals. Music written in a capacity and capability that exceeds their ages and it leaves you in awe.
    I played music at this age. Everything I played was written by someone else. It’s one thing to play as a solo. It’s an entirely different experience playing in a group. The level of talent necessary to create entire multi-instrumental compositions is intense. At this age, they were WAY beyond mere talent.
    This presentation hooked me. I love every song. Every word resonates with me. As a creative professional, I watch this to be inspired or fight the demons that come with self doubt or crisis of confidence. Dany’s “When I’m Alone” is a personal favorite, written when she was 15 and feeling homesick. I always tear up. Always. It’s inescapable.
    This is why the Warning Army is so protective, and so engaged in seeing them succeed.
    They’re special, and every step toward realizing their dream brings joy.

    • @MrJest2
      @MrJest2 Год назад +4

      I play flute. When I was "their" age (closer to Pau; the "average age" of them at this time), I too was playing music written by others.
      True story: I actually *cheated* my way into First Chair at that time, too... in band class, we were tasked to play a medley of tunes from John Williams' _Star Wars_ sound track (the original, now known as "Episode 4" etc.). This was the year the movie came out, 1977, and almost nobody had really heard and digested the material at that point. The sticking point was _Leia's Theme_ , which is syncopated and complex, timing-wise. Sight-reading it, everyone got hopelessly tangled up trying to parse the timing. Being a huge nerd, I had the album and had listened to it a bazillion times before this task was set before us, so I just played it as I knew it from the album. My teacher was amazed I could do this, and promoted me.
      *This* is how the mind of an "average" 14-year-old works. It is definitely _not_ the way any of these young ladies work, either then or today. They are, indeed, special.

    • @MrJest2
      @MrJest2 Год назад +7

      One theory - that has some merit, I think - is that since she'd been playing on an "adult" kit since about the age of 7 or so, her "muscle memory" exaggerated the motions required, because she's... "vertically challenged", shall we say to be delicate about it. 😋
      So, she learned early on that she needed to _reach_ a lot more to hit the various components of her drum set. By the time the TedX video here occurred, this had translated into a very _Animal_ style of play that basically wasted energy and could potentially mess up timing on more complex rhythms, so with some coaching she learned to be a tad more economical since she no longer needed to reach so far to make the hits.
      But yeah - the raw power is still there, and we love it!!! Wouldn't have it any other way....

    I've been a fan of The Warning for about 3 years now. I was struck by how mature they were at such a young age, not only as musicians but as young ladies. They were and still are so beyond their years. I believe Ale, the bass player is about 11-12 years old at this time. I will still playing with GI Joes and eating mud pies at that age and she was mastering the bass. People at this age should not be able to write lyrics as serious and thought-provoking as they have mainly because their lyrics are usually reserved for people with many more years of life experience. Yet here we have The Warning doing just that. I cannot say enough good things about The Warning. Rock and Roll is in good hands!!

    I haven't seen a recent live act from them, so I wonder if the drummer hasn't calmed down a little bit. She's great and has fire, yet it's a very un-ergonomic way of play, putting a lot of strain on the body with all that twisting and jumping.
    It's fun to compare her style with the Japanese drumming-school, like with Band-Maid or Lovebites, who sport a very stable body posture and a very centered position behind their sets.
    Anyway, The Warning performs a high quality of music and is another piece of evidence, how important it is to look beyond the own borders.

At the beginning and end of songs, you'll also see her operate a pedal at 9 o'clock to start the backing tracks (stems) and at 1 o'clock to stop them. She also sings backing and lead vocals. They are speaking in the second language. Spanish is their first language. They are so articulate in English. Their songs are primarily written in English. They do have four songs in Spanish.

    Even though this is by far no longer true I find it funny that Ale's bass cab is taller than she is at this age!

    They never liked being called child prodigies, but it is what it is. I call them the Mozarts of Rock!

    They are certainly articulate and poised, especially in a 2nd language. But to be honest, I know others that are equally articulate at this age. I know nobody who can write music and play like that at that age.

    You said it "they are so well spoken"...and English is not even their native language.😂

    Clicked liked and then reversed it. I do not like seeing people eat on camera. If you're hungry eat before or after the video edit. No one here is keeping you to such a tight time line.
