He was definitely one of America's greatest songwriters.
Yes sir indeed his music is so Unique 🫡
There were so many originals back then, another age far removed from where we are presently in the meta of cable competitors demeaning themselves before a "celebrity"panel of "experts"
I'll take the former
@@vj19xrk9 I'm with you.
Thomas Earl Petty (1950-2017). Thanks for the music, rest in well-earned peace.

Rip Mr petty
Kim Basinger (the actress playing the corpse of Tom’s affections in this video) said that she had a lot of fun on this shoot! She said that Tom was really a very shy man, which was fine by her because she was also fairly shy herself. They broke down giggling more times than either could count and she said he was incredibly sweet to work with. That made me happy.
Awwwww...
So sweet!
That also helps me feel better about being quiet and shy through various parts of my life as well. #TomPetty
😊
Tom was a great guy from all accounts.
very nice Story , thank you groovymovie ;-)
I'm sad you had to explain who Kim Basinger was😞
It's insane how he recorded this as a bonus song for his greatest hits album, then this turned out to be a new greatest hit for him
I find it amazing people still listen to this
It’s such a great song
@@konnordavis5936 good music is timeless.
I think they knew immediately after recording this song that they had struck gold (platinum) again. The fact that they introduced it on a greatest hits album says all you need to know about their confidence in it.
Only Petty and Stevie Wonder (on ORIGINAL MUSIQUARIUM I) have put new music on greatest hits albums that stood with their hits.
My dad passed away recently from prostate cancer at 59. This was one of his favorite songs, I can still remember sitting in the passenger seat of his cars listening to the radio together
Very sorry for your loss. I just turned 58 three days ago.
That's so beautiful always acknowledge your parents
I'm sorry for your loss bro
My dad died of that too... Cancer is... well better that i don't get even started
EXCELLENT choice!
Roy Orbison...George Harrison...Tom Petty...rest in peace. Thanks from Italy, Traveling Wilburys ❤
"Tired of screwin' up, tired of goin' down, tired of myself, tired of this town."
Preach, Tommy.
"Tired of screwing up, tired of going down, tired of myself, tired of this town". Great line, Felt like that time and time over throughout the years. Whenever if feel it, I know its time to move on.
Wonder how cold the ocean was, no pun
Then I'd put some Slim Shady on and feel a whole lot better lol
I agree...
Who _hasn't_ felt like that?
If anyone says they haven't felt such things, they're clearly lying.
Thank you, #TomPetty
The idea of this track is so genius, this is exactly the way people feel when they have to leave something they have loved forever, it basically describes nostalgia in the best way possible visually.

is the implication he sexed the body? actually unsure please tell me
@@Matt-hw9tg no, I can see why you'd think that, but the whole idea is he is giving one last night of life to this woman who had an untimely death.

Hard to believe he died 7 years ago….. rip Tom
No big thing but Tom Petty was born in 1951.
Best show I've ever seen. So glad I got to see him live in Pittsburgh.
Ray-Ray Roberts I seen him in Pitts too, Back in 2001.
Another great artist taken away from us. Now he's rocking somewhere, dancing with Mary Jane...
This song is even sadder now...Rest In Peace, Tom.
October 2 2024…today is the anniversary of Tom Petty’s passing. Tom, May your resurrection ascend in peace and thank you for being our angel spirit guide. We love you Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!!! Always!!! & Eternally!!!!!💜🔥🙏🏽
I haven't cried in years, but this song broke me down last night. Got out the harmonica and played along. Thanks for the music, Mr. Petty.
Patrick Griffith I know how you feel, brother. When they first announced his death,I started crying like a baby. Then after finding out the news was false, and that he was still clinging on to life, that gave me a little hope that maybe he would pull through. I prayed and prayed for him, until his manager officially confirmed his death later that evening. It made me even more emotional. Tom Petty's death sure was a shock to all of us. May he rest in peace 😟
Same here. His death brought tears to so many people--including me! It's as if he was the voice of my generation and we didn't realize it!
Keep the harmonica going. LIFE, be in the now brother.
Patrick Griffith his music makes me feel better too!!
I have been crying on and off since he died.
When I was 14, I got to see Tom Petty the same week as seeing the Eagles. Nothing else to that, it's just a brag. That was an awesome week.
I'm pissed I never got around to seeing Tom Petty or Prince before they passed!
Man I’d of killed to see the eagles and Tom Petty
definitely brag about that
@@SandMountainBallistics I know right.. would be such a unique memory to possess..

Timeless... can't believe this is almost 30 years old. If it were released today, it would still be a hit.
I’ve heard this song many times and only a year ago I realized it was this song. I thought it was made in the 70s at first. But when I realized this was made in the 90s, I found out songs can be a little after their time.
Beautifully said! It absolutely would be a hit today.
29 years old
I doubt it given the brain dead drivel the populace eats up now days.
I see what you mean. But on what chart? Rock is almost dead and most of the bands are in a tight community.

He never got enough respect! I'm not saying he wasn't big in the industry. He's just never mentioned with all the greats!
Everyone lives in their own reality. You just "happened" to not hear about Tom as a great. I certainly DID hear about him, and talk about him as a great. Not arguing with you, friend, just saying I don't think he was underrated. In my bubble he was and is a music god.

I loved Tom Petty since junior high school . I was devastated when he passed . I’m even more disappointed that I never saw him live in concert . I thought I had more time . God bless Tom Petty his music is really the soundtrack to my life . I sing and play drums and we play and I sing many of his songs . They bring me and the audience such joy . It’s just amazing the impact his music has had on several generations of rock and roll fans. Long live Tom Petty.

My brat said isn't Mary Jane some victim of a serial killer. Me: ... yeah, I think so. Idk. 🤨 I wish I could say that I didn't tell her what else Mary Jane meant bc idk where that even came from but who knows what this kids always picking up on. Bc when I liked this... ppl were really determined to tell me this was about weed. Like, weeds so damn common, thx for clueing me in tho. Wouldn't know what id do if not for ppl clueing me in w/ the basics. But anyways, meanwhile...- I was being creeped out by Petty long since b4 I knew anything of the adult world. Whered u come from tho
Tomorrow is never promised.
In 2017, I was living in NOLA and I got to go to JazzFest where Tom Petty was the headliner that year. I will never forget that concert - he sang ALL his classics, despite already not looking great. Four months later he was dead.
The one thing I took away from that day was a field full of strangers, including myself, all singing this song with him in perfect unison. It was magical.

Since I was a child I listened to Tom, My dad had all of his albums... I am crying right now, he is a part of my childhood. His sound, his lyrics, the songs were spectacular. He really was the last DJ. We'll never see anyone like him anymore. I listen to a lot of music. He is unique, and I say this only to few musicians, such as Joe Jackson or Frank Zappa. He was a legend of Rock. He surely has written the history of music. We all miss you Tom. We'll met in the great wide open, someday, maybe...
Gabriele Ciccarello Right with you buddy.
He wasn't the last DJ. That lyric was about the record industry going down the shitter for profit.
Ho Lee Phuk I know, I was two years old when The last Dj was released. I love the sound of that album. Then I grew up and I understood a lot more the meaning of the album. A critic to the record industry that was becoming an horrible being without a soul, only moved by money (in fact another song of that album is called "money becomes king")
Excellent song all time. Sorry your life was taken to soon.
