  • Periods have always been taboo for most of the men in our country. They either do not like talking about it, or they ignore the topic when someone asks them about it, what’s the worst case scenario? Some of the men define periods as “it is the dirtiness coming out of a woman and during this time period, the women are unclean and one should not be near them”. Angry yet? We bet you would be after reading all this.
POPxo went around the streets of Delhi and asked some men, whether they knew about the term “periods”. You will be surprised to see the kind of answers, response and reactions to this question.

The biggest problem is people are not educated on this. We do have a part on it on our biology chapters. But when it comes even the teacher prefers to skip it. Its high time that we start talking about it with everyone and instead of taking a separate session of girls, they educate everyone altogether. And asking questions to men in the street about it is good but instead it would be better if we educate them about it. That would make a difference.

In the educated classes most of the kids will know as they are taught female anatomy in school. The question is how should this info be given to the uneducated lot. Many of them haven't been to school and for many of them there are 'religious taboos' that prevent them from listening to or participating in such conversations. I was shocked to hear from my Tamil friend, in the Netherlands, that her in-laws in today's day and age asked her to practice self isolation (basically keep herself in a room) when she was on her periods... so there are such folks too that need to be educated (despite their being college educated) and its no easy task.

To anyone that might still be confused. Periods does not refer to the ejection of "evil spirits" or anything. It's just the body's method of getting rid of the endometrial lining in the event of lack of fertilisation of the ovum.
In layman's terms, for someone to get pregnant through you, an egg inside their body has to combine with your sperm. The said egg is released by the ovary once every month. The endometrial lining is a landing pad for the fertilised egg that also nourishes it. If the egg isn't fertilised, the lining is shed by the body along with blood.
Now, for the emotional part. I'm not a woman, but I imagine that the pain is somewhat similar to having someone torture you by making microscopic cuts on your balls. The pain isn't as significant as a gash or a wound from a knife, but it still hurts because the tissue in question is sensitive.
Along with the above events, there's also a bunch of hormonal changes in the body. A woman going through her periods would be more irritable and will get annoyed quickly. Think of it like this, you're playing PUBG and your mum tells you to pause and go buy groceries, imagine how annoyed you'd get. Now imagine being that annoyed, but without the PUBG.
    Knowledge is power folks

If anyone is not having those periods then there is something problem with her health. And then many years later I came to know from girls that they feel extreme pain, mood swing, etc and the pain started going away as they age.

First of all hats off to popxo team because they went out of their zone to make this video and talking about Indian men , I am personally little bit surprised when they don't get ashamed while mistreating girls and abusing them sexually and mentally then for periods what kind of shame those men were showing off. On one hand the country is developing in IT sector and many more modern methods but somewhere the orthodox thinking about mensturational cycle is increasing . there was a man who said that women shed their waste material , I would like to say that the waste they are talking about can only lead a women to become a mother. Its not a problem of Indian mwen the problem is uprooted in their thought process. I am delighted and thankfull that popxo made us show the realty of the men of 21st centuary

Why are men soo ashamed to talk about periods??? And why do they think it's discusting and tabu?? It's normal and part of human-nature of a woman. They make us women feel down and as if we are like a mistake. Men should up-grade their thinking and be more open about these topics. In the end we women give birth and have to deal with a lot of pain. Please do something about it.

I went to my cousin's home and She was on her period. I put my arms on her shoulders (playfully). She just pushed me away. I didn't understand why. Then aunty (my cousin's mom) came to me and said that I'm not supposed to touch her during her periods and If I did I must take bath.
I didn't understand their logic....like how will she go anywhere outside her home during periods if nobody should come near her..... She was also not allowed inside the puja room and kitchen. She was told to use a separate chair and bed. I felt shocked to know that even now people consider this as a taboo and look at it like as if it is forbidden to speak freely about periods.
I also hate it when people treat women like a piece of shit (during their periods). Even I've experienced this. Not only men. Sometimes even women create a big scene if a girl stained her clothes.

i bet if u ask indian women about this they will answer the same because that's what they are told.
So i should go and "slap" indian women too .... oh yeah i thought so that would be "bad" but slapping men is so "funny" right ??
Stupid Fucking "Feminist" all over India.
Why don't u start a campaign to spread awareness among people , get funding from gov. and do it , why are feminist busy changing laws in india and making them gynocentric instead.

tim serious first of all It was my first reaction when I was seeing this video because who felt good after listening this they all said menstruation 'gandgi' and garmi nd all...I m a biology student I know the fact that they are illiterate one and they don't know the meaning but they should have a common sense yaar and this is not problem of illiterate one but the literate men also talking abt this shit man
and I'm not in favour of blindly feminism because I believe the fact that we are the human being just like men and stronger too , have mind so we know our rights and we don't tried to hain sympathy the way we tortured na that's why the thinking of present time is like this

Okay. Men in their childhood (both educated and uneducated) were taught by their mothers that periods is something dirty (because our Indian patriarchal society does not want to talk about it. And women are more patriarchal) Even if they studied, they were taught the same.
And for girls, their mother taught that it was a phase and it is shameful to talk about it among the males so she should keep it hidden and is impure.

Need more awareness to men and also women. Lots of women feels shy to express the periods talk. Some people think that it's women topic, so we don't want to interfere. That's not good at all. Men should need this awareness. It's natural. We all are humans. Love, pain, emotions, all are common to humans. There is no need to shy to talk about periods to everybody. No need to shy to hear it. we all are humans.
