Let me know what you’d like to see from this series in the future! :)
More Goblins!
Information about authors and cover artists would be great
more epic/high + grimdark fantasy books !!
Create a new persona a goblin warlock that must review indie authors or lose this patrons gifts
Edit inside of your eye every video
More horror talk, you love it, we love, lets talk about it!
Recommendation, if a book 2 is coming out, tell us about book 1.
Or find a series pitch
I came to make this exact comment. Read us the synopsis of the first book so we can get an idea of the series
Good idea.
this.
This is great! Two suggestions:
1. Maybe try structuring the list around sub-genre rather than release date? I imagine it could help guide people through the video and direct them to the books they're more likely to enjoy.
2. It might be helpful to split the "nth book in a series releases" to a separate section so that (a) there aren't too many spoilers for people who haven't read the preceding books and (b) it adds another element of structure to the video that could make a more natural flow.
I second the idea of focusing on genre/subgenre. When I look for books, I look first by subgenre then by release. It would also let Daniel go back and add in some people from earlier months if it's close to release and adds to the list (I know, that's a TERRIBLE idea, but I may be SLIGHTLY salty that I had a book released and announced on Rob's list two months ago and Daniel started this NOW!!!!! lol).
I third focusing on genera
I fourth this!
And my axe!
+
At the end of the videos you could give us a "most intriguing award" to one of the book maybe with a little blurb as to why.
Lets us see your thoughts on the book. Doesn't even need to be specifically about the story itself could be because of the writing style, a different pov, etc.
Plus if to leave it to the end you encourage people to watch your videos to the end feeding the all mighty ALGORITHM
this,
I feel like a balance between deep dive and a varied assortment of indie books, would be great. We get the essentials of each book while also having a large variety, thus at least one should interest someone.
More interest in indie books is always better, good to find hidden gems.
I hope to see more!
I think a great way is to explain who the audience is for each book, People who like worldbuilding, go for this one, if you love Characterwork go for that one. Maybe even if you like this author, go for these indie authors.
Might be hard for him to know though without actually reading the books, but I agree that in general those are useful things for recommending books.
Been wanting to get into indie fantasy books but most bookstores tend to put larger titles in the forefront so this is great. Maybe give some intro to indie fantasy reading list to give some options on where to start?
Also if there’s a sequel book you want to talk about, you could show the cover and give the summary for the first book if you don’t wanna spoil anything 🧐
I'm really excited for more of this!
Also, eating magic rocks must be a good idea, it worked for Elend Venture after all.
Cradle.... Omg Omg (in a high pitched scream)
The most fun I've had this year. Can't wait to listen to Reaper!
I'm with Kirby. If the new book is later in the series, remind us about the first book and give a little summary of it too if you can. Also, mention if they're in ebook format.
i have said this 3456 times but here it goes again. your content is amazing and you deserve all the success you have
Excited to read and review Rebels Creed I just ordered it and I’m pumped
I think this series can benifit from some divission in subgenre per episode and a way to explore these different storytelling possibilities.
I would LOVE a series focusing on fantasy book illustrators and artists 🎨
I'd love to see indie Sci-Fi too! Also cover artists!
Love the new series!
Daniel-"Deep dive " was immediately followed by Amy Schumer's Tampax commercial saying "Tip to grip!" The transition was so smooth 😂
I'm soooo hyped for REAPER. The series has been a blast so far
Saaammmee, its just a crying shame that its releasing between the 2 days of the week it would be the most free
Congrats for "Rebel's Creed" and great to see you acomplished my man. I think deep diving in their authors and their books would be constructive. I am currently writing an indie fantasy, hope one day maybe you'll love my book and we'll chat about our writings.
From Romania. You have great fans here.
The Cradle series I feel really should be read in pairs. The books are short enough that reading book one and two as one complete book feels more complete and fulfilling.
So glad you’re doing a video for some of the underdog indie writers! As an aspiring writer myself, things like this are appreciated for the community as a whole😃💯
1) I know Kindle Unlimited is a huge resource for indie authors (especially internationally as I’m from Aus and most indie books aren’t available physically or they are but for $40+ excl. shipping) and I find and read them mostly from there so maybe it would be cool to state if it is available on Kindle Unlimited
2) I would be interested if you actively put any of the books on ur tbr and plan on reading them in the future
3) if u do read any, have like a special section in ur end of year awards ceremony about books u found in this series that were a hidden gem or something
Anyway I love this new series :)
Ps. cyren is just ‘siren’ but spelt quirky because it’s a fantasy mermaid book and Adelaide is an Australian city pronounced “a·duh·laid”
I like the personality you add to it, makes it more enjoyable to listen and be interested in the books rather than just reading off a list
Oh I would love to see this be a regular thing. Over the last 2 years I been reading a lot of Indy fantasy and a lot of it has been inspiring. Happy to see you doing this. I don't expect you to read everything, but a highlight of what's out there will good with some deep dives when you feel like :)
Been waiting for Daniel to cover Soulsmith, the second cradle book ever since he covered the first one, would love to hear his thoughts on how it progresses
I honestly love the summaries, talking more about authors and cover art would be fabulous as well.
I just love these books and titles makes me thirst to join the author sphere
What has Pips been doing to celebrate the release of Rebel's Creed?
This is the most important question :)
Thanks for supporting the Indie community! Love seeing this.
Absolutely love the new series. And thank you so much for featuring my book - what a thrill :) Can't wait to see more indie-based content!
You reviewed Unsouled, the first book of the cradle series. You didn't rate it that high, but I still highly recommend that you continue reading the series, because it only gets better. Reaper, the tenth book, is being released on November 2nd, and I honestly can't wait to read it!!!
So grateful to see you show some love and support to fellow Indie Authors Maria Vermisoglou and Astrid V.J. As an indie author of some 17 books self-published myself, this is so very exciting. You are awesome! Hint my newest upcoming release Ascension: A Story of Grace could use a prompt.
Firstly, there's the Indie Fantasy addicts group that has some great people and an awesome community. In addition, there's an annual indie competition where the gems shine even brighter.
Some recs off the top of my hat- Sword ok Kaigen, Of Honey and Wildfires, the keeper chronicles and the buried goddess saga
I can't believe you featured The Lament of Death! Thank you so much! I just show this and almost fell from my chair. You rock!
Not sure how a video of someone reading book synopses was so entertaining, but it certainly was. I now want Dan to introduce all books to me!
I think there is a way to get the indie market more flourished to the mainstream. Short films. If people see more short films of such books. Even Small parts of the storylines, they could be interested into buying the books, which would instill confidence into new authors and novice writers trying to break into the market.
Thanks, Daniel, for the mention of my book from Rob J. Hayes' great list!
Recommendation:
1. at the end of the video do a poll on the previous months indie books and review the winner in another video.
2. read cradle NOW
i’m really excited for this series! a suggestion is maybe to add the synopsis on screen next to the book while you read it, that way it’s easier to follow along and ppl can also pause if they need to :)
I thought that was great! I don't think every video you release needs to be weird and whacky, I really enjoyed hearing about new books and seeing your reaction.
What great company I'm among ♥ thanks so much for sharing, really appreciate the feature! My book is a dark + queer Peter Pan retelling that's available wherever books are sold! Can attest to Lisette Marshall and Helen Scheuerer being fantastic as well for those into fantasy romance and YA dark fantasy!
I'd be interested in maybe just the one-line elevator pitch for each book, instead of the whole synopsis.
And as others have said, if there's a sequel coming out, maybe that's a chance to take a closer look at the earlier books in the series, and gather more thoughts about them. I'm interested in reading indie books, but I'm also somewhat wary, so hearing the reactions to earlier works would be really cool.
Information on the author and artists would also be cool--especially author!
I would love more deep dives into untraditional plots and concepts from the indie scene
This is essentially me looking at book blurbs in a bookstore (when I get the chance, that is). Love it. 🙃
*Upcoming indie fantasy books*
Daniel: ...
Daniel: .........
Daniel: SO REBEL'S CREED IS OUT, YKNOW, JUST SAYING
The only reason for this indie segment...
Give him a break, he gave himself like 10 seconds in a 14 minute video. This definitely falls into "more good than harm"
The fact that when you search Wheel of time in youtube, the third video that comes up is our disheveled goblin, makes me so happy!
Do more! This is really helpful for both readers and other authors in the same genres.
Breach of Peace is inside my mailbox and I'm at work! Rebels Creed will be in Nov 9th. Pretty excited! I like this series idea, I have gotten away from reading and have been doing more audible while driving and working. Excited to get back into actually reading, need the suggestions!
That shirt. Damn.
Damn.
Damn.
Damn.
I would prefer a "small" spread to deep dives for indies. I think if the goal (that I totally support) is to spread awareness then that makes the most sense, however, if you happento find a book that you really lovd and want to make a long video about it, that would be totaly cool, I think.
Hey brother, always enjoyed your content. I'm a old guy but always like to see what the new guys are into. You turned me on to a couple grim dark things that I would have not found. Murderbot wow that was hell ya. Keep doing your thing. Enjoyed your first book, want more back story.
Would love to have a video that does as you just did which is to let us know what's coming out in the upcoming month/months. I would however combine it with maybe one or two that you have read and can review briefly. That way you can recommend something to those of us who don't know where to start in the Indie fantasy scene. Also I think I saw this in another comment but if you could maybe read the synopsis on the first book rather than the sequel that's coming out that may be helpful. That way we can actually know what the series is about, talking about book 3 or 7 is not particularly helpful if I don't know what book 1s premise is. Thanks again for the content and have a good weekend.
If you're ever looking for another indie novel coming out in April, Edge of Time, will be released 25 April, 2023. (time travel novel).
How about a Hidden Gems series? There are so many indie books and series that we missed over the years, and a good chunk of them deserve the Harry Dresden treatment.
Maybe find a series (possibly on sale on Amazon, wink) preferably with a morally grey/nonhuman protagonist. Ideal series may feature interdimensional travel, undead fuckery, black humor, memorable supporting characters, and a gratuitous use of the sharp and pointies.
I have three recommendations for you, and they are as follows:
1. The Chronicles of Breed
2. The Chronicles of Breed
3. The Chronicles of Breed
(Tongue from cheek for a moment, I'm earnestly saying you should give the Chronicles of Breed a go, fantastic series that doesn't get enough love imho.)
I've been waiting for reaper all year :) It will be the first read after I finish malice
Great idea! Love new books! Please add which ones have audiobooks. Thank you.
1. I would love an audio format for your new book. 2. Want more info than the synopsis when possible
These books sound so cool! I will make sure to check them out. Especially this rebel's creed thing sounds weirdly intriguing lmao
Hello, Daniel and people. I heavily recommend Solaris by Stanislaw Lem, its science fiction. Very deep psychological and existential stuff. More of a classic, but still worth reading for any science fiction fan. Not sure if its the kind of fiction you're used to reading but hope you give it a shot.
I definitely love this idea! As someone who plans to go through the indie process, putting some spotlight on the indie community and the new releases will help it grow! I think a good idea could be covering different genres/sub-genres each time you do this. Also, cover artists could definitely be something
So I think a deep dive should be done on books you really liked or are heavily requested the rest should be an assortment of indie books. I would love to see a spotlight brightly shined on the cover art they get overlooked too often.
I loved this, it was a lot of fun, thank you. Congratulations on your book release, I've added it to my tbr.
Also if you want indie books where they eat the magic thing, Carol Beth Anderson has a magic eaters trilogy.
I think for a sequel book you could read the synopsis of the first book, to avoid spoilers, show the new book, and let us see if we want to start the series.
I'd like a synopsis, maybe if it's a planned series or stand alone would be nice too.
Thanks for this new series. Hopefully I'll be on your list next year :D
Definitely gonna get that mermaid book, and maybe the banshee
still hoping that we get a sequel to this
To add to upcoming Indie release list:
Tom Dumbrell “No Place for Peace” November 5th
Brittany N. Gathing “The Unseen” November 16th
Andrew D Meredith “Thrice” November 11th
I received the biggest compliment ever today by being called a chaos goblin and I now feel like I’m a proper member of the goblin clan
Love the video dude, it's great to see indie authors posted here!
Really like this video and would totally be happy to see more of this type of content
I know you don't really focus of YA fantasy, but I'd love it if you could include just one or two ya books in your list!
Love this new series! And honestly I enjoy just sitting listening to you read the synopsis and show off the covers. (Also love your method of book promotion ☺️ Way more persuasive than a lot of authors campaigns:)
Including cover artists would be amazing, indie supporting indie!
Interviewing Rob J Hayes would be awesome!
Can't wait for my copy of rebels creed to arrive! I'm looking forward to seeing where your next instalment takes us 😊
I love the idea of this series! I always stuggle to find indie authors that I like, maybe this series can help me with this. Some of these book recommendations have piqued my interest, so I'm going to give them a go.
Recommendations for the format of the series:
1) If it isn't the first book in the series, perhaps give us a synopsis of the first book instead to avoid spoilers?
2) A little information on the cover artist would be amazing! I feel like so often they don't get enough recognition for their work.
3) It would be nice if you could give a comparison to other known authors, either from a similar genre or writing style?
4)Include many sub-genres, but keep books organised by category, along with time stamps for each. That way, if you know you don't like a certain genre you can skip to ones you do like (not that I'd personally ever do that, but some people might).
Good luck with this series, I'm excited to see where it goes!
RECOMMENDATION: include notable recent releases too
This is cool. It is too bad that a lot of synopsis for sequels have spoilers but I get that it's hard to pitch a sequel without building on the previous story.
So excited about this series! Mainstream publishing makes so much noise it's hard to even hear about interesting indie releases. Appreciate you!!
Thanks for the mention!
Read Breach of Peace and Rebels Creed yesterday, and uh, LOVED EM! Well done can't wait for your next work!
Funnily, one of the book series I read as a kid answered the “eating magic rocks thing” by having that be the origin of the magic bloodlines.
I love this idea! Indie authors really do need some more help getting out there and getting the recognition they deserve. I have also recently found that a lot of fantasy booktubers are talking about the same books , so this would be a huge breath of fresh air! As my own book is coming out next year, I have been trying to support my fellow indie authors more and prioritizing their books over traditional published ones on my TBR. However, as you have pointed out, it can be hard to find them. SPFBO and instagram have been my main source so far. Really interested to see more of these videos. Keep up the good work!
Is this something we're actually going to keep up with? I was so excited when this video was released but I haven't seen any follow up videos. I'd love to keep hearing about more indie books.
Kinda unrelated to the video itself but please get an interview with Will Wight on the channel! After reading some more of his books of course
I LOVE this!!! I’m always interested in seeing/hearing about new fantasy indie stuff. You’re awesome for making these vids - thanks!
So this is a really rad feature! I'd love to see more than just reading the cover-blurbs (insomuch as e-books have cover-blurbs nowadays). Like, info on the authors? Or more excited opinions on such? Or ... I dunno, something? There's a lot of potenial here, and I'm sure there's lots of cool stuff in indie fantasy to be read these days. And even in indie sci-fi, even?
I love this idea! I'd love to know whether they're a debut author or if they have a backlist. Also, the cover artist (they may have made it themselves but either way).
For the sequels, you can tell us about book 1 and put a screen shot of the sequel's blurb for those who want to pause and read it (assuming you can do this without having to read it yourself).
Splitting it into sub-genres way make it easier.
Depending on how much you can/want to put in, you could say whether they're KU or wide in case e.g. Kobo only readers are watching.
Book 4 of "The Books of Babel" titled "The Fall of Babel" comes out November 9th too!
I truly appreciate this video. I try very hard to support independent authors! I WILL be buying YOUR books very shortly. Great selections and some new TBRs for me! I honestly would love to see some independent one shot fantasy novels showcased.
Hi, happy to see indi author reccomendations. I would also be interested in cover art/covrrartists. However, maby don't try to jam to much in one format?
Thanks for the reccomedations!
Fun! I appreciate that you're highlighting indie authors. Do more?
Also, how are you finding the books you preview?
Thank you for doing this! Let us know if there's anything we can do to help!
I am looking forward to picking up your books and reading them. For the series I feel a good mix between a deep dive and about the author would be awesome for the series!
I liked the video, its always good to give exposure to indie projects. Maybe in future videos you could do more of a dive into the authors, if they've written anything before, how it was received, that kind of thing.
Love the new series! Some focus on cover artists would be awesome, I always feel they're underrated!
i would prefer more info on each book but i like the series idea!
I one day hope to have my book reviewed on this channel
Adelaide is a fantasy name, huh? I'll have to tell that to my great grandmother who was around before Tolkien lol
I’m still waiting for a Rob J. Hayes interview!
I love how you pronounced Adelaide :) as someone who lives in Adelaide it was rather amusing lol :)
FYI - its: Ad - el - aid
Keep up the good goblin work :)
