I vote for 'Frog and Toad' for short stories, if you're gonna read Harrow you probably need something wholesome that you don't need to pay so much attention to :) happy new year!
I love a tbr video! Maybe one way to shake it up could be picking the # of tbr pulls based on how many you read from the prior months tbr video (ex pulled 10 in January, if you read 6 of the tbr books you pick 6 for feb. if you read all 6 from feb maybe increase the # by 1 in march?) That way it can scale with how much you’re getting value out of choosing a tbr in advance vs leaning more into mood reads! Sooo excited to see you read harrow!
Harrow the Ninth is one of those books where you just have to make it to the end to understand but once you do it's both gratifying and heart-wrenching. It was my favorite book of 2022!
I vote Frog and Toad. Also Allisonpages talked about The Myth of Normal in her best books of the year, and her description of it was amazing and made it feel very worthwhile of a read
I love how creative your tbr prompts are so I always love these videos but please don’t stress about it too much!! One short story collection I read last year and really liked is Tower by Bae Myung-hoon. It’s translated from the Korean and all of the stories are set in this huge building/tower/skyscraper that is just a full on state? It’s super interesting world building and makes it believable that people would live in such a weird way! I was in awe at how he came up with that concept.
I feel like Frog and Toad is appropriate for short stories, but some short story collections I loved in 2023: Bound in Flesh, Cinema Viscera, and The Book of Gaza.
Also: reread This is How You Lose the Time War if that's what's calling to you!! I've heard great things about The Myth of Normal as well but sometimes you just gotta reread a favorite!
For short story, i recommend "exhalation by Ted Chang" one of my favorite collection. He wrote the short story that made into the movie Arrival (actual story in a different short story collection). But the writing is excellent ❤
I am late to this video, but I would totally go with the Frog and Toad book. Addie LaRue was a top book for me in 2023. I absolutely loved it and can't believe it took me so long to get to it. I hope your reads have been going well. Happy New Year.
Harrow is one of the most confusing books I've ever read but I felt like the ending was worth the long struggle and it's my favorite of the series (so far)! So fingers crossed ✨✨
I love that more booktubers are getting into Hanif Abdurraqib’s books 🥰 If you end up enjoying this one, I highly recommend his collection They Cant Kill Us Until They Kill Us, it was in my top 10 of the year 🙂 Also, the short story collection Stories From The Tenants Downstairs by Sidik Fofana is SUCH an underrated book. It’s an interconnected collection of stories that follow tenants in the same high rise. So good!!
I love Frog and Toad! If you would like some mystery short stories, try The Tuesday Murder Club by Agatha Christie, which introduces Miss Marple. And I loved Addie LaRue - easily one of my top ten books for that year.
Harrow is so worth the struggle. I was equally confused for most of the book, but the ending is so good it made the whole experience 5 stars for me. I'd also recommend taking a look at the dramatis personae from Gideon just to remind yourself of the characters, and/or read a recap of Gideon - it won't necessarily help with the confusion but at least you'll know who you're reading about lol
Whenever you want to read a short story collection, I recommend Magic for Beginners, by Kelly Link! It’s impossible to describe adequately, but so good 😊💖
on harrow -- it makes no sense! don't pressure urself to fully understand everything! i could barely tell you any of the specific plot points from that book but it was An Experience and the pay off is everything
Excited to hear your opinion on "The invisible life of Addie Larue" had it on my TBR for a while but wasn't sure on it~ also I'm so glad to hear you liked Tress of the emerald sea!!
Just here to join others in reassuring that being confused for most of Harrow is expected and normal! It's an integral part of the experience actually.
If you're looking for a new short story collection I can highly HIGHLY recommend "the paper menagerie" by Ken Liu. I never knew that "just" short stories could be SOOO good and after being converted had 2 other collections on my Christmas wishlist (stories of your live by Ted Chiang - so far not nearly as good as Ken Liu in my humble opinion - & Liu's second collection "The Hidden Girl")
hi katie! ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ i remember you wanting to read Our share of night by Mariana Enríquez and she has an awesome short stories collection called Things We Lost in Fire!! I recommend it a lot :B if not, Frog and Toad's short stories seem awesome as well :D love to see your monthly tbr videos back!!
I have 2 short story collections to recommend that I would love to hear your thoughts on! Homesick for Another World by Ottessa Moshfegh (this was my introduction to her writing and I was immediately in love) Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung (translated from Korean by Anton Hur. A dark and interesting mix of horror, magical realism and fairy tales.)
I would recommend for the short stories "dusk to dawn by sierra smith the cover is of a hous sort of split in half one side dark and other side brighter she used to be my teacher a few years ago and hasnt gotten much attention but i think she deserves more so maybe you can give it a try but you dont have to if youve already made a choice
If you do want a short story collection, I read Transmogrify edited by g. haron davis last year and absolutely loved it!! Every story centers a trans teenager and magic of some kind, and it was so lovely and healing to read 😭 I definitely discovered some awesome new authors from the collection which I always love! Coincidentally I read all of Frog & Toad near the end of 2023 and adored them, so I recommend those as well if you want something cozy and wholesome 💖

That's a great idea!
❤📚 Frog and Toad, perfect.
Loved this chaotic TBR! ❤ Read Frog and Toad. Sweet and silly little stories.
Harrow the Ninth is one of those books where you just have to make it to the end to understand but once you do it's both gratifying and heart-wrenching. It was my favorite book of 2022!
100% frog and toad because that seems like the cutest thing.
Addie La Rue is very good! It's a long character study, and it made me actually cry.
I vote frog & toad for the short stories, because it will probably be nice to have an option that’s short and easy and wholesome.
I vote Frog and Toad. Also Allisonpages talked about The Myth of Normal in her best books of the year, and her description of it was amazing and made it feel very worthwhile of a read
Aghhh cursed cocktails is soooo gooooood!!!
Frog and Toad for sure.

wow that sounds so far up my alley I want to read that immediately
Devotions was my second favorite book in 2023, I would totally recommend, it’s a treat for the soul ❤
Great tbr video. One of my favorite short story collections is Women of Brewster place and it’s perfect for black history month too!
Frog and Toad!
Short Story option - North Woods was a Pulitzer Prize nominee, reading it right now and it’s excellent! Beautiful cover doesn’t hurt either.
Dare I say the TB jar…🥁
I’ll see myself out 🚶♀️
I feel like Frog and Toad is appropriate for short stories, but some short story collections I loved in 2023: Bound in Flesh, Cinema Viscera, and The Book of Gaza.
Frog and Toad!! All the way!!
One of my favorite short story collections is The Compass Rose by Ursula K Le Guin. Also beloved is Perseus in the Wind by Freya Stark
Also: reread This is How You Lose the Time War if that's what's calling to you!! I've heard great things about The Myth of Normal as well but sometimes you just gotta reread a favorite!
Yaaay!! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Addie Larue! May you get through it without sobbing in front of any mailmen 🙏
Fingers crossed!!
For short story, i recommend "exhalation by Ted Chang" one of my favorite collection. He wrote the short story that made into the movie Arrival (actual story in a different short story collection). But the writing is excellent ❤
Addie LaRuuuuue!! I literally just finished it and LOVED it!!

Omg I was also just thinking it’s time for me to finally read Addie LaRue too! Twins!
oooo those both sound amazing I am adding to the TBR!

ooo good shout about dramatis personae from Gideon I just picked up Harrow and I am already questioning reality that was so helpful

I’m not much of a short story reader, but I loved The Secret Lives of Church Ladies! From you already have, I’d vote for Frog and Toad 😊
Just here to join others in reassuring that being confused for most of Harrow is expected and normal! It's an integral part of the experience actually.
Reread the book you WANT to read.

Thank you thank you!
A fun twist on “read a book written by 2 authors” is to read a translated work!
what a SMART idea!
I read it In a day and I enjoyed it
Shark heart.
Self care: read Frog & Toad 😂
At Home With the Horrors by Sammy Scott for short stories ♥
I don’t have any short story collections 😊
Have you read the scythe series??
I have only read the first one but I did really enjoy it
Should check out age of fire serie there's 6 books and they are short and u read from the dragon's point of view
oooo that does sound good!
If you do want a short story collection, I read Transmogrify edited by g. haron davis last year and absolutely loved it!!
